07 Type S. How long can you drive after range hits 0?

I know this sounds stupid and anyone would just say go fill up the damn car. I do agree however im super lazy today and work at 3pm and dont want to make a special trip to fill it up plus its cold and rainy. Right now my range is at 5 miles remaining and the gas station I use on my way to work is 11 miles from me. Im almost 100% positive making it there wont be a problem especially since the drive is open country roads and I have driven passed 0 before.
But from peoples experience how long can a auto Type S go once the range hits 0?

Thanks,
James

P.S. and yes I know its not good to run tanks dry but I dont plan on running out of fuel. I hope lol

Depends on mileage.

You've got about 3 gallons at that point.

You can push it but honestly its not healthy for the fuel pump. You have a chance of overheating the pump.

Yeah I totally agree and I do know that. From what it sounds like I still have three gallons in there and only have to go 11 miles which would leave approx. 2.5 gallons when I reach the station. Just one of those days I dont feel like making a special trip to fill up when the one on the way to work is the cheapest and the brand I like to use.

Thanks guys,
James

Im gen2 so dont know your guages- but we have a `low fuel` light comes on at 3 gal remaining- approx 2.5 to 2.7 of that can be picked up by the fuel pump
average refuel at low light and drive at favorite station- 14.5 gal, tank capacity 17.3,

You wont overheat the pump due to low fuel- its only when tank is dead dry and pump still trying to pull fuel thru- which is also its pump coolant- then it will get hot

Short trips are the hardest on the car, under 10 miles and the fluids dont even get warmed up fully- look at the exhaust tips of other cars- you are putting out water same as them

I assumed the OP was asking what happens when you run it after 0 which is pretty much emptying the tank...which does have a risk of overheating the pump and killing it. Personally the only time you should do that is if you are in a situation where you cannot find a place to get gas.

I usually fill up when my gas light comes on and it usually is around a consistent 11.9-12.8 gallons. Usually mixed I get around 300 when I have to fill up.

I don't understand that, what's the point of having so many warnings that your car is out of gas, and when the range hit's zero you still have 2-3 gallons? Bad design imo, doesn't show accuracy.

not worth it... I drove 50ish miles after the range said 0... ended up having to walk half mile to the nearest gas station

It is misleading but the manufacturer is trying to prolong the car life. The fuel in your system actually cools and lubricates the pump. If you keep on running it on empty it starts enforcing wear into the fuel pump. Last thing you want is to have to replace one of those. Its easy but its just a hassle.
