07 TL-S vs. ~2001 M3? what would happen?
So some friends of mine have been talking about a friend with an M3. I'm not sure exactly which year but I think they said it was a 2001. I'm wondering if I even have a shot again him. I've heard he's not very good with MT. My car is an AT stock. I'm pretty that he'd beat me and I'll be watching from afar . I'm wondering if I even have a shot before I go ahead and do some runs.
Dead stop or from a role? and where should the cut-off be?
I know mine is newer and probably in much better shape than his, especially his tranny.
If you guys think there's no way...... what if my gas was almost empty and he had an extra person?
Not sure if we'll even meet and do any runs but I'd like to know what would happen if I ever meet an older M3.
Also, how about the Z4's?
appreciated

DRINKING HAS A ME PROBLEM
unless his car is really beat up you wont have a chance.
how good of a driver his he.
his 1/4 mile times are in the 13's yours are low 14's
with the 1/2 tank or less with gas and with him having an extra person it would make it alittle closer but then its not so fair.
do you have any performance mods at all? does he?

If he is a convertible you'll have a better chance, the fact that you are a 5AT doesn't help, a 6MT will have a better shot, but either way it's still a loss, not being a pesimist just being a realist.

Short answer: No.
If the 'friend' with the M3 has any idea how to drive then, he should make short work of the TL-S (6MT or 5AT). (But if you say he is not good then anything goes; just know that you would be beating the driver not, the car.) I am no BMW expert but, I believe the E46 M3 is capable of running high-12s on a good day with a top notch driver.
(Sidenote: When I went to test drive the 335i, the sales mgr indicated that it was a hair quicker than the E46 M3 on the low end but, then the M3 would tear by it on the high end.)

I've driven my bosses' new 335i 6AT and while it was quite powerful, it felt like a far cry from the rev-happy M3. Then again, the smoothness and much quieter cabin could've threw me off.

I lost to a 2002 M3 in my 545 by about 1cl all the way up to over 120mph. This car is no joke. A 2004 TL MT took part at the same race and finished third about 7 maybe 8cl behind me.
So my advice: don't waste your time and gas!

Just went with a 07TLS (silver with tints)... I have a stock 02TLS (NBP, of course).
VSA off (on my way to replace the dead battery), SS, the 07 ahead by .25 car at the light. A/C off, windows open, about 65 degrees outside. 2K7 took the jump and as soon as I stopped pealin' out, I got sucked into the seat and immediatly got next to the 07. I was on SS so my shifts were more agressive than his, to the point where I saw his foglights... For being two stock cars, they sure made a racket going down the road. I am sure he might of slightly walked me at some point, we were in primo-neighborhood-blacktop, with curves (pine island road in plantation for those in the know) with stopped traffic coming up. I gave it all and was almost surprised at the outcome. Ive gone it against an M3 before too, being fully aware that it is a waste of time if I ever hope to beat it... But fun anywayz.

It'll smoke you no less. But you said he's a bad driver......... still... it's a AT M3... no matter how bad of a driver you are... you can still stomp of the gas and take off
wait for a few products like procats and supercharger...then you'll be able to smoke him.

You need a reality check man...you have no clue what you're talking about.
Just to educate you, 545 is a mid 13 car and can smoke you any day of the week!
