Mixed driving = 22 MPG
This includes some highway, some hilly secondary roads and a dose of lead foot from time to time.

This is an interesting post. Apparently the fuel mileage is taking a serious hit in the wrong direction for a few more hp. If the SH-AWD comes to fruition in 2008, that will drop it even further.
Just for S&G's, let's look at some numbers:
Type "S" auto is 3,674 lbs, and rated at 19/28 mpg
Type "S" 6MT is 3,559 lbs., and rated at 20/29 mpg
The 4,000 lb. RL w/AWD is rated at 18/26.
The mpg difference between "S" auto and RL is 8% on the highway. Yes, I know the RL is 290 hp.
Just my here, but with the price of gas skyrocketing, and we need premium, in addition, Acura may not be heading in the right direction (for me, anyway). It will be insighful to read further posts to this thread.
I don't mean to bore anyone. Forgive me for enjoying the engineering and numbers.
Just food for thought...how many people would realize that only 2 mpg difference could equate to 8%. Figure that for a year.
For reference, my '05 TL has averaged an honest 30-31 mpg in the 55,000 miles I've had her. The EPA rating on the sticker is 20/29.
'05 6MT NBP
K&N Typhoon Intake
Royal Purple goin' in the crankcase tomorrow
A-Spec suspension
245/40/17 Michelin Pilot A/S's
DeBadged rear
V1 on the lookout

Second tank much more around town. Fewer full throttle passes (but still plenty). Couple of first gear blasts, with and without the electronic nannies. This car cannot accept full throttle in first gear wihtout breaking the tires loose up around 4000 rpm - with fully warmed tires on a warm and clean asphalt road.
25 mpg on the second tank.
Current tank around 70% highway so far. Looks like it'll do close to 20% better, based on when it hit a half tank.
I'm very pleased so far. We also have an E46 M3 in the garage, and it will clearly spank the TL-S in any sort of performance comparison, but the Acura clearly is a very strong performer in its own right - much stronger than I expected.

Please be more specific. Rounding to 2 decimals is for sissies( )
16 - 18 mpg in an '07 TL-S 6MT driving the worst of city traffic (lots of 1st, 2nd & 3rd). The MID routinely says an average of 17 mph.
Such a waste of a good, fast car.

I almost want to cry when I have to stop and go or hit a traffic light because you can see the MPG rating diving down in front of your eyes and it seems like an eternity trying to get each mile back up again even when driving back on the highway. It's crazy how much it stresses me out. Last night I filled up in Newark, NJ and had to drive about 5 miles on RT 21 which is all traffic lights and I was cursing out the people who couldn't design the lights to all turn green in sequence. My wife thinks the car isn't good for my blood pressure.

22 mpg in mixed driving (only had it for 2 weeks so far so it's not fully broken in)
For comparison My '98 4-cyl accord automatic averaged about 25 with the same driving patterns. (Just less power when I pressed the gas ).
Based on the cost difference of the gas and the lower MPG of the TL-S, I figure I'll spend about $300 more in gas this year than last. I think $300 is a pretty good bargain for a year of enjoyment!

27 MPG. 80% Highway. 20% town. I drive like a kid on his permit in town. I drive fast on the highway.
p.s. Gas station out of Premium last friday. Had to use reg. for that 1 tank. MPG down 3 MPG for that tank.

That's really good! Have you gotten that much right out of the lot or has it improved gradually?

My driving is almost all comute so I drive the same thing over and over again. Also since it's a commute, with lots of traffic, I drive conservatively almost all the time.

I average about 23 mpg. The MID is usually around 22, while the "Trip Computer" (which was installed via navigation hack, usually shows mid- to high-23s/low-24s.
25-30% freeway driving.

2004 automatic.
I get about 20 mpg and that is almost all city driving. Taking the TL to Columbus in a couple of weeks, we'll see what the mileage is on the interstate.
