'07 TL-S needing new rotors/pads up front?

Well, i took my TL-S into get services (oil change etc) from a dealer close to my house. They did what i had asked and checked out the care to see if there was any need for anything.

The service writer came to me and said that he would strongly suggest getting new front brakes/pads. He said there was a lip that had developed on the upper part of the rotor and that they could/would not machine them. So I would basically be looking at 65x.xx with all parts and labor.

Does this sound about right? (not the price, the diagnosis).

If so, what pads/rotors would you rec?

I am going to buy the parts and just install them myself with a friend. FYI.

God a week can't go by on AZ without a brembo'd TL's owner asking about pads/rotors. $650 is ridiculous, but you should have already known that, I hope.....

You could DIY it for less than $200 with parts from Autozone or any other auto parts store.

In short, SEARCH! But don't do it here. Get on the Autozone website and you can search every product they sell and know exactly what their prices are for anything brake related. Rotors usually are about $60 a piece and pads just depend on what you want.

I seriously think this thread so be closed asap.

If you did you would realize there are countless threads made here in regards to brembo brakes. From cost, to DIY, to repainting calipers, aftermarket pads and rotors, performance pads and rotors ect. You get the idea..

A lip on the rotor doesn't necessarily means you need to change the rotor, as long as the pad doesn't overlap the lip you're good.

That's such crap. Your service writer is an idiot. That lip is perfectly normal.

What matters is rotor thickness. What did they measure your rotor thickness as? I'll bet they didn't even do that. If it's not to 23mm, your rotors are still good.

Guys, let's calm down here. Yes, there has been a lot of threads about this topic. Could Venom have done a better job of searching, yes. But he is new, just like you Vill.

Relax.....breathe!

I'm going to leave this open for a little while, just to see who doesn't know how to relax, or wants a week off....

Really enjoying the new promotion Steve?! lol jk

Kinda looks like you're judging a book by the cover if Join date and post count equals your level of knowledge and experience. But whatever, we do breathe and are relaxed on this site but this kinda stuff is just sorta annoying when 99% of answers you've ever wanted are available night or day without posting a new thread. We're not talking rocket science here, and rarely ever do.

Oh believe me, we ignore our fair share of threads here. But that aside. Did you know you could shop parts on an auto parts store's website? After a few estimates like you got for a simple as hell brake job, you'll realize hopefully that the dealer is almost always the last place to take your car for work.

I think the OP gets the idea. Let's tone it down. We were all noobs on this site at one time. The OP admitted he didn't search very well. So lets cool it. I'm sure he will do better at searching as time goes on. The subject here is about rotors and pads, not how or if the OP searched. So, lets stay on subject as some others that joined this thread have done. You've been warned by Steven, there won't be another.
