'07 TL Hood Protector

Hi guys,

My 07 NBP TL came with a hood protector which is great as I do some night and highway driving a few days each week - however as per the picture below it seems as if the glue is starting to stick out and being a bit of a nutjob perfectionist when it comes to my TL - I want to get this fixed asap.

Besides having to remove the whole cover, is there any alternate solution anyone can recommend?

I like the look of this cover as if installed properly...it blends in with the vehicle unlike the other hood protectors which cover half the hood and look butt ugly as well...

no.

remove it and apply a new one.

clear bra technology has improved greatly.

if you get a new one installed, you wont know its there

its like a screen protector for your cell phone.

once there are chips or scratches in it, throw it away and apply a new one.

Ahhh is it easy to do? Im guessing the dealer is the place to buy one to ensure the color is the same? I dread how much he will charge to remove it and install a new one!

its clear! it will match to ANY color car! because its clear!

i dont know if dealers do this. its more of an aftermarket "Detailing" product.

detail and correct the paint first, then apply clear bra so that paint stays flawless. and protects from road debris like rocks

looks like wax and dirt buildup along the edge of the film, you can clean it but any sort of damage to the clearbra will still be there.

You can get the whole front end and side mirrors clearbra'ed for nearly 1/4 the cost of repainting everything. You can get this film installed by a multitude of detailers. If you check out the wash and wax section there is a detailer who posts photos of is entire process!

Few films such as Xpel and 3M that are very good and backed for 3-5 years against issues.

Get a pro to put it on rather than doing it yourself, and when I mean a pro someone who knows what they are doing. Some guys did a lamborghini and left x-acto knife marks on the bodywork everywhere from cutting the film! Plus the corners looked terrible!

Yeah I dont think my limited skills will be a good match for a job like this....Ill definately get it done professionally.

Im looking to get a 3 stage polish done on the TL soon - so maybe I should have them remove the cover, polish the vehicle then have a new one installed from a prof.

Here are a few links I found - first one is at the Acura detailer...the 2nd is a dude who does 3MM and has pretty good reviews on google...

Wholesale Booking Form - Tint Shield

yes, if you are getting it detailed, they will remove the clear wrap, correct the paint, then if you decide to get it wrapped again, they can do it for you

Having this done on my RL after 2 stage paint correction. Technology on the films has vastly improved over 3-4 years ago when I had TL done. Its literally almost invisible. Make sure you go with package that includes door cups, roof in front of sunroof, mirrors and top of rear bumper and headlights.

The stage 3 polish is a must for me - Id rather save for that than to pay someone to remove the bra!

Plus, could always use the extra dough for the smoked rear side markers

Use a heat gun and a plastic scraper tool to help peel up a corner, pull with your fingers slowly and be sure to heat up the clear-bra as you peel.

Make sure you don't hover over one area with the heat gun for too long otherwise it'll melt the clearbra. Use the heatgun on the low setting.

Then be prepared for the fun mess of all the extra glue to remove too. Recently saw Bentley Continental that had it removed what a freakin mess that was left.

So whats in a 3 stage polish? Heard of single stage and stage 2 what does a stage 3 add is it just another level of aggressiveness as your paint is that poor shape?

So you guys think the cover is that bad that it needs to be replaced? I went to 2 more shops today and both told me that the cover is not too bad and the wax can be removed - even by myself at home..

we're just people on the internet trying to help.

WE cannot give you perfect advice because we cannot see the vehicle. the pic you provided isnt great. as I cant physically inspect it

plus, you got recommendations from 2 detailers that physically saw the cover and said it was fine.

the 2 recommendations that you did get would convince me to just wipe the wax away and carry on with life.

Not sure your gonna be successful using polish to remove wax buildup without ending back where you started plus you dont want anything abrasive on the film. I would first try using dawn dish detergent to break it up and loosen it then take a microfiber to try and wipe it off. If that doesnt work the next try is using a quick detailer to also soften it and also wipe it off with that. Lastly try a pink rubber eraser which wont damage the paint and will get the stubborn pieces off if needed. BTW this also works on rough black trim pieces if you get wax stuck in the crevaces.

I have had a clear bra on my 2007 for over 9 years now and it has cracked big time. I tried removing it by setting out in the Florida hot sun and peeling, but it only came off in small pieces. I am certain a heat gun or steamer and about 30 hours of my time will get it. I will NEVER get another one of these ever again. It's going to be a big pain in my side. But I left this one on too long.
