07 Mustang GT 5MT vs 04 TL 6MT

Both good drivers...

He had the California edition, hardtop, larger intake and exhaust...

0-125...Stang by 3 cars...
20-125...Stang by 2 cars...
60-125...Even
60-150...TL by 2 cars

They weight about the same as the TL....

Acceleration...all Stang...
Top Speed...all TL MT...

Thought I was going to get a CA GT to play last night, but he didn't bite. Would've been a highway roll. Sounded great, but those quad headlights look silly.

The GT was faster no doubt, they are rated 300hp with 320lbs of torque stock...the CA has larger intake and exhaust, so maybe 315hp/330lbs at the crank. I thought a 1st or 2nd gear would of been of good match, but he had longer gears and torque to back the gears...he was faster until we reach 125 mph where i was coming back...5th gear is the best for the TL, stays in powerband + aerodynamics was too much for the Stang...i even hit the speed limiter for the first time which is 150 MPH...

The 5AT will go over 100mph in 3rd. My 95GT 5MT mustang w/ 3.73's would barely make it to 90mph before I had to shift into 4th.....

shouldnt be man. from a standstill the RWD has an advantage due to better traction, so the tl should play catch up damn near the whole time. not to mention the TQ curve of a V8 completely shits on our acura V6's.

doesnt matter how soon you have to shift, if you get to 90 before the other guy is at 70 then you will win the race. no?

Please go easy on racing at those stratospheric speeds. A 0-80 mph sprint is one thing but 125-150mph is excessive and dangerous on public roads (to yourself, and others).

Of course...I would assume mustangs/camaros/firebirds are all geared for low end torque but like OP said in the higher rpm band (speed) its a different story....

Nice race! I wonder how much closer you would have been with a few more mods?

Get your hands on an exhaust and precat deletes, you'll love 3rd and 4th gear even more! Car pulls till redline without running out of breath.

^^ He's not kidding

Nice run. They are a good matchup with us (as long as we are decently modded) from a roll. From a dig forget it, but on the highway we can hold our own. Stock for stock the Mustang will take us every time. But if we are modded it should be close. Mod for mod the Mustang will win even worse than stock vs stock.

American muscle, cheap to mod and the gains are massive!!

I spent $3k in exhaust mods with some gains but I can't imagine what that kind of power you could get in the mustang with that money a lot more then 35whp lol

Could easily get 11s on 3k, if the money is spent carefully. Nitrous and slicks ftw!

There's new 5.0 GT here in KC that dynoed 389whp stock. With a tune, intake, and slicks, it's going 12.2s@111mph in the heat. Insane.

Yeah I was just referring to the 05-09 GTs. I'm sure you could go 11s under 1k with the new 5.0.... little spray, some slicks... Maybe just a tune and slicks on a good DA

Shit for 3k I could get headers(600.00),Cam+tune(1600.00),,Intake(300.00), Xpipe(50.00used), to put me into the 415-25whp range then an extra $450.00 to get a nice lil 150shot to put me around 565-75whp range.. All of that I could get even cheaper if I got it used of my LS forums.. Or just keep an eye out as Ive seen used maggies go for 2500 to 3k too... that could put me around the 470-480whp right off the bat..

Hell, the new V6's run like 13.7's. I'd be PISSED if I'd just bought an 09' GT. They're much lighter than the Camaros.

You could easily get away with a stock manifold T76/78ish single turbo build in that price range as well for an easy 450-600whp with huge upgradability. Can't beat the LS platforms for power per dollar.

I wouldn't mind getting the STS rear mounted twinturbo kit.. the only problem is this is my DD and I heard the driveability is shit..

Personally I would go with a forward feed single turbo. Properly set up and tuned, it will get almost identical gas mileage to stock and be very streetables. Much moreso than a cam/heads NA car.

It would have to be a 1 off if it was front or even mid mounted.. just not enough room for it and no parts..

I'm not talking about a kit. Most people either use LS3 manifolds turned forwards, or 2 passenger truck manifolds turned forwards (one upside down), then have an exhaust shop make a forward Y-pipe and downpipe for the cheapest and most effective build. Not sure which set of LSX stock manifolds would work best for your application, but your stock manifolds turned backwards may work.

Obviously it would require a lot of work and knowledge on your part... Not quite a regular DIY mod, but still the best option for a daily driver to make big power and still get good gas mileage and streetability. A big cam N/A car sacrifices tons of gas mileage and low rpm power, a S/C car will constantly be in boost, ruining gas mileage... a Nitrous car well... the power isn't always there!

I agree, but it's also insane that you can buy a used 4th gen Maxima 5MT for $2,500-4,000K, add a quality and relatively simple $4K turbo kit, and do absolutely nothing to the built-proof VQ30 other than injectors and some simple tuning and run deep into the 11s@120mph+ with slicks.

Or do what Jime did, and get a no options (no sunroof) 95 maxima AUTOMATIC (yes, they are faster with power), a 200 dollar junkyard 3.5L engine, spray a 200 shot on it and run 10s@125+ mph with slicks.
