07 G35 coupe/ 05 TL fun

I believe he had automatic and I have a 6 spd TL, we were just playing around on the parkway because I had two friends in the back seat but honestly his car didn't seem much faster than mine. After we pulled for a little bit (him taking off a tad bit faster) we saw a cop and nodded at each other then went our separate ways.

In a real pull, would I get raped? I have a cai also, and I definately feel a difference with it. But what do you guys think?

yeah, a cai isnt going to compensate for the differences in hp/tq.

You are manual though and that more than makes up for the difference in power being applied to the wheels VS his AT.

MTVtec, dont kid your self, and dont bs other people. infiniti has 306 hp, lets say a 20% drivetrain loss, so 306 times .8 = 244-ish. TL has 258 with less of a drivetrain loss, lets say 15%, so 258 times .85= 219.

Ok so your 17 and think you have the best car. Understandable, but dont answer peoples questions with bullshit answers

Ehhhh... The 07 G35 Coupe has 280 HP, and the MT TL has no problem keeping up with it. Did you even race one yet?

The 07 G35 Sedan is 306, not the coupe.

just to keep the convo clear, I'm talking about the g35 coupe and not the new sedan vs my 05 TL. Because I kept up with one and I had two people in my backseat.

Has anyone raced the 04 maxima in a TL?

I'm pretty sure without your friends, your TL would win for sure since you have CAI and your TL is the 6MT model. If it were a 6MT G35 coupe though..things would be pretty different!

it's a close race i'd say and I thought the 07 G coupes had 306HP too? why wouldn't they? the 07's are very fast cars, but a well driven 6spd even with just a CAI would fair well IMO.

the 07 G35 coupe hasn't been updated yet. The next gen is coming soon as a 2008 model. I think they will call it the G37 too instead of G35 because of the engine size.

Anyways, the 07 coupe is making 293hp according to the new standard (not 298 anymore), and that's with the 6MT. The 5AT one only has 275hp.

Just check out this website for more info:

http://www.infiniti.com/g_coupe/standard_features.html

So basically, a 275hp 5AT G35 vs a 258hp 6MT TL. Without the passengers, I think the TL has the upper hand here (not to mention he has CAI which adds a a little bit more hp may be?)

sounds good, but what do you think would put me in the winners seat? is'nt my tl heavier? My CAI is supposed to give me somewhere like 8-10 more horses and I do definately feel them! The thing is... my friend has an auto g35 coupe and rode in my TL the day I got it and he kept saying, your car is fast! But the G is unbelievable. And I just don't believe him, I didn't seriously race a G coupe yet but from how my car peels off, I truely believe I'm either faster or very close but I don't have any evidence to back my theory.

I think both G35 and TL weigh about the same, the difference is not enough to make any significant difference. From what you are saying, your TL at the crank is making out at least 265hp with the CAI. And you have one more gear ratio, and I think the gearing on the 6MT TL is more aggresive than the gearing of a 5AT G35, and you also don't have a torque converter that slows you down. All of these are advantages to you besides the fact that you have 10 less hp, but honestly, 10 extra hp is not enough to offset all the advantages you have over the 5AT 275hp G35.

Btw, are you good at shifting? A 5AT G35 I think shouldn't have too much problem launching from a dig. In other words, all he has to do is floor it righ from the beginning and it will accelerate without too much wheelspin due to its RWD layout. So if you are going to race him, make sure you can launch well and shift quickly. If you are not confident in that, then I suggest racing him from a roll, that way you will have a higher chance of winning.

I'm pretty good at shifting, double clutching works wonders. It all sounds great, I just know that the g35 coupe is a bout 1500 pounds lighter.

IF you are good at shifting then I am confident that you will have no problem winning. 1500lbs lighter? I think you meant 150lbs right? Just did a search on MSN autos, the G35 5AT coupe weighs 3505 lbs, and the TL 6MT weighs 3465lbs. So no worries, he doesn't have any advantage in weight too!

lol, yea, I always look up the stats, but I always forget them, so every time I need that info, i have to do a little research...anyways, next time you meet that g35 again, at least you know that you have a high chance of winning

well, I was doing some test launches today and I clutched out once or twice. I was really trying to work on taking off with as little tire spin as possible and I think I need more work before I go looking for g35 coupe action. lol

haha yea man practice a bit more cause i mean, even for a 5AT TL, it's not all that hard to get going fast, so I'd expect a RWD G35 would have an even easier time launching. Btw, don't fry your clutch!!

Yea i guess so, im not too sure though since my TL is AT.....but I could imagine there's a lot of stress to the clutch or the transmission if you drop he clutch too many times at high rpms.

Take the unneeded rediculous tow hook off the front....its gotta be robbing at least 6 HP.... . I note....the tow hook should be at the rear to begin with as your car, at a roadcourse, is likely to fly off the side of the track front first....hense, pulling it out from the rear? (FWD car buddy) What...do you want em to go all the way around to the front and pull your car in a complete circle to get it out of the weeds? The only need you would have for the front tow hook would be pulling your car to the line at a dragway....and trust me....start that with your car in current state....you will hear em laughing from the stands.

Ok....that being said (sorry man...I cant stop bagging you about that tow hook as its so unneeded weight and anybody in the know is truely laughing at you....so I am trying to save you a bit here honestly)back to the OP...

You dont know if it was a manual or auto? That should have been fairly obvious from the takeoff man? Have you upgraded your exhaust yet? If not...that CAI is doing you NO GOOD. Sound...yes....very cool....otherwise...no gain really without opening up the other end. (exhaust) Is it possible that he was just hanging with you as they were laughing so hard at the front tow hook they couldnt get it together? (again...just playing with you man....gonna keep playing with you until you tell me you took that dang thing off of there...so just lie to me and tell me you did so I can sleep at night!) I am just giving you a hard time because you are posing as a Benz...ya...thats the ticket.....tagging my family name man!

You are right...and like a dick...I added to the mix. Its just too easy. A CAI without an exhaust.....wooo! Its all in his head man. No gains to be had with just a CAI....your exhaust is still restricted. BUT WE ALL HAVE TO GET TO WORK ON HIM AND GET HIM TO TAKE THAT TOW HOOK OFF THE FRONT!

Tow Hook Schmo Hook anyway. I hear you about the extra air coming in and still being restricted on the way out but my car definately pulls harder, it's not in my head and it's not just the sound gassing me up. So honestly, no jokes are you saying that this graph is a lie and I just wasted my money? Also, I'm building up my cash for exhaust, rims and a pulley but I don't make much I'm just a starving designer with a girlfriend who's waiting on a summer vacation to Bermuda

Depends on how you look at it. Is it misleading....most likely. What they more often the not dont tell you is....THE OTHER MODS THIS CAR HAD ON IT WHEN IT TESTED? I could put a comptech exhaust on a car...test it with OEM air intake....and get one figure.....then test it with the CAI and get another figure and advertise xHP gains....that is NOT false advertising nor a lie....but is it a bit misleading...yep. Its sales and marketing speak man!

So yes....the "tow hook schmo's" take on it.....its marketing talk...thats about all. The truth lies in ALL the facts...not just what they show you.

You know that, I thought that was a big scratch on his front bumper...never thought he would put a tow hook on a family sedan! But at least it's pretty unique.

I have to put my two cents in...

First of all, I have an 04 6mt. I have CAI, pulley, thermal spacers, and coilovers (over 241hp and 222tq with dynojet). I've raced a G35, 350Z's, pre-05 Mustang GT's, a 04 Maxima, a 04 Altima GSR, a 00 Z28, and a Cobalt SS; some before and after mods. There were no guessing if they were trying to race me or not, because they were. I don't know how other TL's like mine do with those cars, but mine did very well (over 230hp and 210tq with dynojet).
All were pretty much a drivers race before the mods except for the Z28 (pulled on me) and the Maxima (pulled pretty good on him). I've been driving manual most of my driving years, so I consider myself pretty good. Could be better though.

Secondly, none of them has hung or beaten me from a stand still or roll except for the Z28 (have not raced with mods yet). As a matter of fact, I could say that I pulled an extra car length or two more (all cars are different). I haven't done the exhaust yet, but I'm pretty happy with what I have now. Maybe the procats, but that's it. My car isn't obnoxiously loud either, which is the way I like it.

Sounds good, what do you think the pulley put your hp up to and also where'd you purchase it from?

Couldn't say since I did everything at the same time. The only thing I figure from the pulley is more torque down low on the rpm scale. While cruising on the highway for example, I don't have to down shift from 6th gear just to feel like I'm accelerating from 60 mph and up.

I got the Unorthodox underdrive pulley from Excelerate (one of the vendors on the forum). Here is the link for it.

The difference between the pulleys that Excelerate sells are the underdriven size (which is smaller that stock) and the stock size. Both pulleys are much lighter than stock though. The underdriven is suppose to give you more hp gains than the stock size pulley. You will have to get a different size belt for the underdriven pulley.

I recommend the underdriven pulley if you are not planning on upgrading your stereo system that requires more electrical support.

A stock 5AT G35 coupe or sedan is typically good for about 14.4s@96mph though some have done 14.2-14.3@97-98mph. The 6MTs are typically a tenth or two quicker assuming they can get a decent launch which is extremely hard to do in the G/Z 6MTs. Judging from the 1/4 mile times I've seen on this site, on average, the G35 auto is quicker the the TL 6MT. Your results me vary though if you're racing on the street. Just keep in mind that the truth is revealed under the timing lights and anything can happen on the street. The truth is in the timeslip and posting street kills doesn't prove a whole lot about the performance of your car.

Has anyone raced the 04 maxima in a TL?

i raced Final from the forums with my dads 05 AT maxima... he has an 06 6speed ... he pulled on it pretty hard not gonna lie haha.

ps he also ran his 6 speed against our buddy with an 03 6 speed g35 coupe.... pulled on him as well... the 6 speed tl's haul ass and should not be taken lightly ive seen it first hand.

(ps all of the cars were stock)
