'07-'08 Base TL unpopular?

Hi I am new owner of a 07 base TL and I am very happy with the car!

I was looking into doing some further mods into making this car sexier but only to come to realize that not a lot of people mod a 07/08 base TL! (after searching for pictures of the 07 TL with aspec lip and found like 1) I noticed that the a spec lip for 07+ base TL is different from the 04-06! Of the 1 08 TL with the lip kit on that i found, tbh i noticed minimal difference...do you guys have more photos of 07/08 base with the lip kit?

do you guys think it is worth it to purchase the A-spec kit for my 07 base? or if you can point me to some direction as to what other mods are good for a 07 base? I regret not getting a type-s now!!!!!!

Thanks!

Welcome to Acurazine, Blee.

The Aspec Kit will definitely be an improvement in the Looks Department. As a matter of fact, modding a Base TL will give you lots of options. If you like, check out My Garage (by clicking on my link in my signature). I've done mainly aesthetic mods myself.

there are some 04-06 base models with the 07-08 front conversion with aspec lip. if you like the look then go for it. it's your car, just mod it tastefully.

the aspec lip kits between the base models for the front lips are subtly different. someone recently asked about the differences between the case and type-s...there are pics.

Thanks for the link to the thread TLtrigirl! I found that last pic in post#4 to be very informative haha

About lowering my car, if I plan to keep the car for a while and plan to put around 10-15k km on it every year, will it cause much damage? My car is already sitting at almost 95k km! Don't know if there will be much wear if i lower it... any thoughts?

wear on what? your suspension? tires? please put into US measurements...my brain has a hard time converting km into miles.

Lol, 60k miles is nothing. I do 25k miles a year and I have no problems.

wow that looks amazing!!! I will seriously consider getting an a-spec kit now after seeing that!

and i really like those cleared headlights! I will check with some local autoshops to ask if they can do that for me! I was reading up on clearing headlights and the steps seem too difficult for me haha!

Is your car lowered? If so by how much? i came across this set of a spec suspension kit on ebay
http://www.ebay.com/itm/OEM-Acura-07...#ht_796wt_1037
are these good? or would I be better off with aftermarket stuff like H&R and Koni etc

He's lowered about 1.5-2 inches.

A-Spec suspension will only lower your car 0.5 - 0.75 inches, not noticeable to anyone else but you. However, the suspension is a hell of a lot more firm.

The 07-08 base auto are known for having the most softest suspension (worse kind of suspension if you are into spirited driving, or driving the car at high speeds / taking fast turns)

I'm afraid that it might become a scratch fest if i lower it by 2...will 1-1.5 be noticeable? The thing is if i drop it i'll most likely get rims too so maybe 18" + 1.25" drop? LOL

blee...I have an 08 WDP/Ebony base with the aspec body kit and a spoiler...I think the car looks great and I love driving it. I went from a 350Z to this TL. Does it handle like the Z, no but it is a damn fine handling sport sedan.

You learn to drive around curbs and stuff to not scrape but some are impossible to get around without scraping but most of the time it's just that plastic piece under the radiator.

Honestly, the average person doesn't notice my 1.5" drop unless I point out that my car is lowered.

If theres no crappy roads where you live or commute I think 2" should be perfect and paired with 19's instead the car will look alot more aggressive with the a-spec kit = Beast Mode

it will be a scrape fest. it doesn't show in twisdit's pics...i have seen his car in person...the underside of his lip is scraped up from driveways and speed bumps. you really won't notice the damage until you actually get up close.

the avg person also won't care that you modded your car by lowering it. just sayin'

OP-if you are going to swap your suspension, you need to determine YOUR needs. handling/performance? aesthetics/drop? a little of both??? also keeping in mind the condition of your roads, is this your daily driver (for most it is)?? everyone will have their own biased opinion as to what is the "best" (its usually their own set up). determine for yourself what you want/need to have a new suspension do for you since it's YOUR car and YOU are the one driving it.

Aspec suspension is specifically tuned for the TL by Acura, so yes these are very good. though the drop is minimal at a 3/4"-1" (i would know, i have this on my car), the handling characterstics of the the car are significantly improved which is what i was looking for. my TL used to be my daily, which has now gone into part time daily since the addition of her stable mate (MDX). i wanted as close to OEM spec's with a much more sporty handling the subtle drop was a bonus. plus the roads around here.... there are a multitude of threads on this suspension. add the progress RSB and the fun really begins.

your other options: lowering springs (for looks only), non-adjustable spring/shock set up, or coilovers (listed in least to most expensive). a lot will say get coilovers b/c they are adjustable (for dampening and/or height). however if you keep adjusting height that means you need to get your car aligned more. usually once you set your height, most won't touch it ever again. for dampening, the adjustment is for ride comfort and overall handling of the car (responsiveness). if you ever plan to track the car, coilovers are the best option. if you like playing around with the suspension, you can customize it for your needs.

just bear in mind that lower is not always better unless the only thing you want is looks. i believe "i hate cars" has a thread on this concept. he has also written many post on suspension and the concept of balancing the ride handling characteristics of the TL (through spring and shock combos with front and rear sway bar set ups). read up....the info is on here (a lot of it).

to get back to your Aspec lip kit....if you want it, then get it. it's really hard to mess up with this choice. base look or with lip kit...the TL is still a good looking car.

I have a 08 WDP TL Base with the Aspec lip all away around and dropped. It's worth it and give the car more of an aggressive look. LMK and I can send pics!

your car still looks good....when its clean the new exterior lighting gives it a whole new look makes me want to mod my lights now...naaahhhhh.

OP-i hope you've been reading...AZ is a wealth of info when it comes to this car. it's also a massive money pit (in a good way). have fun and watch your wallet. just remember it's YOUR TL. mod it the way you want to mod it, just tastefully and purposefully. or rice it out and let us flame you for it.

Let's be very clear. The 07-08 non-Type-S suspension is only 8% softer in the front/the rear is the same as previous 3rd gen years so stop making it like the 07-08 rides like a Toyota Camry because its not even close. My mom had an 06 TL and I cant really feel the difference. Honda softened the front to help reduce torque steer.

dude, one thing at a time. still trying to recoup my money from the stupid tow company that is claiming they never towed my car (yeah...i have a receipt AND a picture of my car on the flatbed). i'm waiting for my paint to finish curing, then i'll work on the that front lip. i may have a go fast mod in the works once some funds start to recover. hell it's taken me this long to get the car with the minor mods it has now. what's another 6 yrs? lol.

see OP-some of us are a little slow to transform the ride...its' like evolution, its a slow process to keep this interesting.

Thanks for all the replies guys! I definitely have been reading and I will continue searching and browsing on all the other discussions! This is my first car so I have a LOT to learn!

I am trying to limit myself to 1 'major' thing a year so for my first year, it will be the a-spec kit! I'm from Canada so there are probably not as many meets up here and work has been crazy! (Stupid accounting!) Can't wait till I get back to school!

One more question, does anyone find the ride to be very rough after lowering their car?

depends what suspension kit you're going with. How low are u planning on going? if not much, the aspec suspension will do and keep it OEM. Not all is the same. Also to mention, you as the driver, feel more of the imperfections and bumps as oppose to passengers, so you may sit passenger on a lowered TL and it feels very good and comfortable.. but once you sit as the driver, its a different feeling. I have tein superstreet coilovers and they are comfortable for my daily commute. On the other hand.. i used to have tein basic ( no damping settings ) and i hated my car rides.. thats why i upgraded to the SS.

i'll try not to resent that!!!! try not forget that there are a few gals on here too!

like twisdit said...depends on the suspension you put in your car and your perception of what rough is.

Aspec is firm but still comfy enough for daily. your stock suspension of all the ones available...is the softest (Aspec-also gives ~1" drop, type-s, base MT, 04-06 AT, 07-08 base-in order from firmest to sofest). so anything you put in would probably feel markedly firmer.

The 07-08 Base TL is the softest suspension out of all the 04-08 TL's.

If you want a soft layed back ride, GO FOR IT.

I have H&R Springs on my 08 TL Base and I'm quite happy with the ride after lowering it. I think it really depends on the quality of the springs, but HR has some good rating. I heard coil overs makes the ride quite bumpy. I chose not to go with coil overs because living in NorCal, there's really no reason to adjust it up and down. I can imagine living in a snow prone area, you might have to adjust it every season. Here's the link to the springs i bought off ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI...m=190562015679.

I love my 2007 Base!
Limiting yourself to 1 major thing is gonna be very hard and is gonna take alot of self control! Hope you can resist since you've started browsing this site lol
I used to think that it wasn't noticeable or that much of a difference until I put it on, then I saw that it added a nice sporty touch!
(not picture whoring, just showing a base aspec lip )

Oh and I'm on Tein SS coilovers. I've been very happy with them. I keep it slammed (a little lower than the pics) all year round, and then when it's guaranteed to snow the next day (according to the weather forecast), I raise it back to stock height, which takes an hour.
