06 TL - hard to control when accelerating? (WOT)
Hey Guys. I'm new here and to the TL. Just traded in my 96 SC400 for a 06 fully loaded TL. I got it yesterday and still getting used to the carnage FWD.
The car seems to be hard to control when "giving it the beans" from a stop or even 10-15mph. It's certified, and I'm just wondering if this is an issue or just FWD?

Torque steer is almost non existant in mine with the sticky tires. Second most important on the list of getting rid of torque steer was the Koni shocks with adjustable rebound damping.

one of the main reasons I got summer tires as soon as I wore down the stock michelins.

+2 on sticky tires minimizing torque steer
Although my car came with Bridgestone Blizzak LM-60 winter tires when purchased last weekend. They are in new-like condition and I'm using them currently in summer/dry roads as they are my only choice now. These tires do cause some squirminess in quick lane changing & hard cornering. Will be replacing with performance all-seasons when they wear out (minimize expenses).

HP FWD + unequal lenght drive shafts = torque steer and it is normal. The type of tires and suspension may help alleviate it but it cannot get rid of it entirely. if you want to get rid of torque steer you need to get an equal lenght driveshaft setup something that is almost impossible to do in a FWD tranverse setup

Souljah, I showed my class the video clip from your signature as an "ice breaker." Hands down the hardest i've heard and seen Army soldiers laugh/cry. Saved the link for my future classes.
OP...I remember during my test drive I damn near took the car off the road accelerating to get past a car who was merging right into me. I think everyone in the car pissed themselves a little, to include the salesman...lol.

I'm starting to think there is some sort of alignment issue possibly.. When cruising at 70 or higher the steering wheel kind of vibrates. I can take my hands off of the wheel during this, but still don't think it's right.
Now to find time to take it to the dealer :/

The 06 is actually better than the 04/05. I had a 04 and it was a mess. The 06 supposedly has a new engine mapping to lessen the torque steer. It's still a little rough, but no where near as bad as my 04 was.

The tires are brand new. Thanks for the reply.

The TL's suspension is very sensitive to balancing. One of my wheels was off by 10 grams and was causing a vibration at 70MPH. Make sure to go to a shop that uses a HUNTER ROAD FORCE BALANCER as these apply pressure to the tire and are much more sensitive.
Alignment is only if the car is drifting or if you are getting irregular tire wear. What tires do you currently have on you car? Size?
As many have said, tires make a huge difference! The shitty Turanza EL42's will make you go into the wall versus tires like the NT05's or good summer tires that'll hold on well. All I can suggest is that you look into your tires and see what pressure they are at (lower the pressure, harder it is to break traction, however the lower the pressure the steering will feel less precise).

sorry im new to this, but is "torque steer" when it pulls to the right? Ive had this prob for a while now. I have brand NEW michelin pilot sports as something... i paid almost almost a grand for them, i also had my car aligned at the dealer and tire kingdom and it still pulls to the right... anything else i could do

When you get accustomed to the car, you'll find yourself counter-steering just as torque steer hits. It's pretty rhythmic once you figure it out. For example, I know that my car will immediately pull right, then left, then right again - at decreasing intervals. It actually can become kind of fun.

Just had both compliance bushings replaced and an alignment and there is absolutely no torque steer even when pulling out of a corner.
OP, this thread pretty much covered it but if you still think it's excessive, check bushings and alignment.

when I bought my car new the torque steer seemed noticeable, but like others have said sticky tires and suspension mods and i dont even notice it at all now really. It is a fwd car so you cant just stomp on the gas pedal from a stop you have to get used to where to launch it.
On a side note this seemed to eliminate/alleviate my wheel hop issue also.
