'06 TL 6spd vs auto...brake question

I'm over on the 2g CL forums...my girl drives a '06 TL 6spd, and she recently got a service at the dealership (oil change and brakes)...she spent a lot of money on everything and I could only compare to what I pay at the dealership for similar services on my cl (and it seems she was robbed).

Anyways, I'm just checking behind the stealership...I know my CL...but I don't know everything about the 3G TL. The service rep was telling her something about her TL being a 6spd costs more to do the brakes.

Are the brakes different on the auto vs the 6spd? And what do you guys typically pay for such a service?

Just lookin out for her...thanks!

People have reported quotes in excess of $500 for Pads and Turn/Cut rotors - Front ONLY. Anther $250 - $300 for the rears.

Front OE Pads are ~$150.

There are a couple of recent threads if you search.

Yeah...that sounds about right. I thought all the 3G TLs had the same brakes. She payed a little under $900 for this work...I guess somewhere between $45-60 was for the oil change, and the rest was brakes...I know she was telling me $185 each for the front pads alone...theres an obvious markup there.

'04 - '08 TL Auto basically the same as the 2G TL (and CL?).

'04 - '06 MT & '07 - '08 TL-S (all) have Brembo 4-piston fronts.

List price on the front pads for the Brembo's is ~$190 for the set.

Maybe some, but not others:

Hawk HPS ~$90
Hawk Ceramic ~$100
Hawk HP+ ~ $120
Rotora H2 Ceramic ~$90

Regardless, After Market is a hell of a lot less expensive than OE.

Wow, they saw her coming. Brakes are a simple DIY. If you can't do your own work then find a good independent shop. Avoid the dealer like the plague except for warranty work.

I understand, but 550 for OEM front rotors and pads, including installation at an Acura dealership is a very good price. The pads alone are 200. Most people are paying 500 and up for pads and rotor turning.

Well, i got my TL A-Spec 6-Spd from a girl (a good looking one at that).

Yes, about the brakes this actually intrigues me as the aftermarket pads which Mr.Heeltoe (a vendor on this site) sells are better in many aspects and costs only half as much. RockAuto goes one better and i saw a set (I cannot vouch for the Quality) for about $45. I actually thought it was an error when i saw the pads for the front were ~$180 on estore.

In my opinion, the Maintenance on the brakes could have been done for much lesser with better results (The OE Pads produce Copious amounts of Brake Dust). But as far as dealer pricing goes, what you were charged was on par with the expected cost.

Lol! Well, try your local pharmacy or any girl with a ''Dr.'' before her name...that worked for this one.

Also, I did more research and got her service report and the total for everything was $846. Here's the breakdown:

(I did misquote her earlier)
$206 for a front pad set
$371 for the front rotor set
$180 in labor
oil change was free
cruise control repair was free
the rest was brake squeal, taxes, environmental fees, etc.

Though the price of the pads came down to $100 rather than the $185 I stated above, $850 for changing the two front rotors and pads is still a lot.

I'll help her go aftermarket the next time.
