'06 330i Interior vs. 3rd Gen. TL Interior

Most of you should know what the TL interior looks like, but if you haven't seen the '06 330i interior, here you go. I don't think I have ever made a better bang for my buck decision in my life. Happy TL owner!......Discuss

The BMW inteiror is horrible for the price and for the car. Even with NAV (you have a no Nav pic)
On the other hand "bang for the buck" means rattles, buttprints, fake wood and other problems for the over 30k asking price.

But even so, with features and ergonomics, the TL interior is better, but not better built.

Would you people stop comparing your cars to BMWs? You can't. Put the two cars through the twisties, and see who comes out first. Yea the TL is a better bang for the buck to some, but its not the end all be all that some of you make it out to be.

With that said, the TL interior is definetly nicer ergonomicaly.

95% of most people driving is not made of twisties...

Seat your tall friends on the back of a 3 series, drive for 20 hours, and hear them complain like crazy. it's not the price, is the overal package.
BMW, Mercedes, VW need to learn a lot about ergonomics before they can get there...

just look how flat that 3-series dashboard is...
the 7 series is even worse...
the Z4 is a little better in contour lines.

BMW has gone soft now anyway, have you looked at the new models they look horrible. They have some new designer that screwed up the image totally if you ask me. Quality is also down, do they make any in Germany anymore? LOL

Dam that BMW dash looks like back in the 80's or something. I checked out the new 330i and you should all see the seats. It looks so cheap and thin!! Should check it out once you have a chance. I like the older gen interior more than the new one. And yes our interior kick ass the BMW and other makers too.

there is a simple reason repeated over and over and over again.

the euro car's interiors are not as advanced necessarily because german cars are made to br driven. not to relax and take it easy. its meant to be driven hard. thats why some high end sports cars dont even have cup holders in them.

its a machine meant to be driven, not to transport things necessarily, and not to be used as a patio

While the BMW may be more fun to drive in the twisties (when it runs, which may not be all the time) I spend most of my time staring at tail lights on Southern State parkway. If I also had to look at that horrible interior I'd puke. That looks like it came from a "78 Ford Fairmont. BMW reaaly needs to step things up a lot as far as styling/design.

Having said that, I'd give almost anything for an "01-04 M3 convertible.

The TL's interior is gorgeous! The new 3 series interior looks so boring and lacking.

Hey guys,

Did any of you notice that the BMW has a new feature? No rearview mirror! Maybe the rearview shows up in a HUD (heads up display) on the windshield... Not! My friend at work just got a 530i and under the rearview mirror there is this pretty obtrusive/visible clear plastic red globe that sort of looks like an upside down old fashioned police light. I think it's for the auto dimmer. WTF? As much as it's a nice car to drive and the interior isn't too bad (not as nearly as nice as our TL's and the NAvi isn't a touch screen) I wouldn't get one just not to stare at that freaking red bubble everytime I drove . That crap is in all their cars but you won't find a clear picture of it on their website.

Most of the "rattles" and "buttprints" were part of the '04s - as could be expected with the first year of a new design. The '05s have better seats from what I hear (I am 250lbs and don't have buttprints) and not a single rattle.

Remeber, he's comparing the '06 330i to the '05 TL.

Personally, I'd love a 330i to go with my TL, but when I can't even buy a 325i with all the options that the TL has for anywhere under $37k - it's just not close. TL wins the interior and exterior styling battle, 330i wins the "fun to drive", TL wins in Price and in Value. That's a 4-1 victory. Pretty one-sided if you ask me.

That little red hub of which you speak is the alarm blinking light. Yes, its not attractive but very noticable.

Speak for yourself. You should consult a lawyer with all of those problems.

Although the interior reminds me of the Mitsu Lancer and agree that TL beats it in ergonomics, BMW will have NO problem selling the new 3-series. And dont expect any sub-MSRP out-the-door prices neither.

Even not considering appearence, just comfort, I think the BMW design is lame. Look at how the console tapers wider at it nears the dash. This restricts your knee movement. When I sat in some 05 BWMs, I had the same issue, I felt too closed in by the dashboard and console. I can just picture the German designer saying "You vill sit in the correct position vhile you drive and you vill not move one millimeter".

on a side note, i'm not a huge fan of our stock front bumper/grille and can't wait till the mugen or ronjon pieces come out, but have you seen the bimmer's new 3 series front end? absolutely UGLY!!

add a lip spoiler to ours, and the look is fine. nothing can help that new 3 series look.

IMHO, the trim difference (gray/black/aluminum versus beige/wood) makes a bigger difference than the Navi console between both pics. That said, there'd be NO WAY I'd opt for the gray/black/aluminum interior if I got the 3-series.

Yea - the beige/wood looks does help the 330i quite a bit but it's still nowhere near TL level. With that said, I just don't care for grey/quartz interiors at all no matter what car it is. They just look so cold and sterile...

Cognitive Dissonance

I can feel the heat of your flames even before you all read my comments . You all are nuts...the 330i interior is beautiful, eggonomic, simple and functional and from the looks of it, I happen to like it better than my TL. This is what you call cognitive dissonance….a psychological phenomenon which refers to the discomfort felt at a discrepancy between what you already know or believe, and new information or interpretation. If someone is called upon to evaluate something which contradicts what they already think they know (the 330i interior versus the TL interior) — particularly if they are committed to that prior knowledge (by having bought a TL) — they are likely to give a negative evaluation of the new object to make themselves feel better (because they bought the TL).

If you want to comment on the outside of the new 330i, that may be where we agree. With the 330i's redesign, Chris Bangle has finally succeded in destroying the look of all the BMW models. The TL is a much better looking car...

So flame on guys! :troutslap

BMW or any german car may be more fun to drive on Autobahn where there is no speed limit! The better performance offered by germans is not to much of use around here where stupid speed limits are posted all over the place.
So the only thing left to enjoy is a car with a very nice interior like our TLs!
The new interior of 3 series looks a tad better than the old one but is still 10 years behind TL!

Umm, there are plenty of fun, safe places to ring out your car. Autocrosses, track events, etc. Oh, wait, you wouldn't want to take your TL there with all that torque steer.

Like I said, the TL is not the end all be all and some cars do other things better than others. And pictures can't tell you jack. You have to sit in the interior, to actually form an opinion. You can make a Kia look decent in a photo and a TL look horrendous, depending on the photographers skills.

And this whole thread is retarded because like SBTL said, you all have a large bias as you bought the TL.

While I don't like the styling of the new BMWs ( although some aren't bad), you can't look over the driving experience you will never get with the TL. There is a reason BMWs are called the ultimate driving experience.

ME TOO!!!! hahaha sorry, not tryin to clown on you non-navi but it really is a big difference.

is it just me or is the instrument panel purple instead of blue in that pic?

how cool would it be if we had a knob so that you can change it to any color you wanted. talk about personalized TL.

If I could afford it I would go with the 330i equipped the same as the TL. I do agree the interior looks a little ugly and old, but hey, not much can match a BMW in handling. For my first car I am probably gonna spend 1-2k on a used beamer(I saw a 93 8-series E50 for 4K on craigs list).

Not many people autocross their 35k family sports sedan. The writer was referring to PRACTICAL ways to use the car's performance...and he has a point.

Pictures get you 90% there. Those are both excellent pictures, but you know that.
Being in person is only going to help the BMW 10% or hurt it 10%. Either way, that's not enough to help the car.

And finally, using your retardation theory, there is no point in discussing ANYTHING here because most of us own TLs and therefor are all a bunch of biased retards. So, who is REALLY retarded here?

Agreed that the 3 series is somewhat plain compared to the TL, however, I guarantee the quality of the materials is far superior....as well it should be for the price.

I would never slam BMW as I think they are truly great cars, but if I'm gonna spend $40k on a well equipped "sedan," it's not gonna be a coupe with four doors like the 3 series....just too small!! I understand they've made the 06 a little bigger but I'm not sure by how much....

Regardless, they WILL sell (or should I say lease) a TON of them...

Yeah, because the 330i is a pure performance machine right? Get real. Maybe it handles better but we're not talking about an M5 here. Relax Jack

you best save a good amount of $$$ for maintenance and repairs. they cost a fortune to fix. my last car was a bmw and although i do love the bmw's it's just too expensive to buy used. i would never buy another used one as they are not as reliable as jap cars. i always had to fix stupid things here and there. for all that extra money you are paying for a bmw there should not be these little problems. and even though the problems are small the cost was high. never again will i get a bmw unless its brand new under warranty.

The BMW interior is attractive and looks well thought out. I prefer the steering wheel and the placement of the speedometer and tachometer in the BMW. What really matters are the factors that a picture can't show - driver position, pedal positions, seats, ergonomics, material quality, textures, etc. I'd have to sit behind the wheel to develop a reasonable 'vs.' opionion - an opinion that would only be valid for me.
