Angry '05 TL vibration problem

I got my '05 TL delivered in 2nd. week of december. The 1500 RPM, 50-55MPH vibration probelm still persists in my TL. I took it to the service dept. They said the resonance issue with the Torque Converter was never fixed in the '05 model, eventhough many problems from the '04 got fixed. The service guy's recommendation is go past the speed rang quickly to avoid feeling the discomfort.
I am feeling ripped off here for not checking the car thoroughly before siging the deal.

Any of you '05 owner have the same problem???

i also feel some vibration around that same speed/rpm range. i figured it was probably cause by the exhaust. as for the service guy in telling you to just go by that range so you wont feel it is bullshit. dont think you and I are the only ones with this vibration problem. there are many many many many threads here regarding this problem.

I have a 05 with only 256+- miles on it. I drive it at highway speed half the way into work everyday. I have not noticed the problem as of yet, but I will try and pay more attention on the way home today to see if it exist on mine or not. I will then let you know.

So you go into a doc and say it hurts when I do this and they say do not do that.. You go to a different doc!!

Now while I appeciate the honesty, I would document this and go to another dealer or raise it as an issue higher up. There is not excuse for a poor design if they say get used to it, it is like changing the expectations after the set them

Unfortunately, if we're specifically talking about that "resonance of exhaust or torque converter", there is no official FIX yet from Acura Tech Dept.. (we do hear some dealers do find out the ways to fix this, but haven't heard any details about "how to") Some cars have serious vibration caused by this, some have minor tremble or droning sound only, others are trouble-free.

So the options are:

1. live with it until the fix
2. Find a proactive dealer that is willing to take the time to investigate and keep your car till they find a way to repair this.
3. Stay in constant contact with acura about how disappointed you are with the product and you expect them to make good on the problem.
4. lemon law route....

Wait, does every acura have this problem? Is it possible to make them give you a new one?

i too have an '05 TL. maybe i'm deaf, but i don't hear anything in that range. i'll try listening for it again today.

one thing i noticed is that my visor rattles from time to time. especially when its not pushed in firmly. other than that, i just love how quiet is my TL. =)

vibration humming!!

i had the same problem and brought my car in for the second time about the same thing today.... i believe it's becoming more of a "known" issue w/ the service depts. when i brought it in today, the guy i talked to didn't have a clue what i was referring to, but sure enough, they called me back a few hours ago and said that they knew exactly what was wrong and that they had another TL come in earlier this week with the same problem.

i will keep you posted on what they do, but they are keeping my car over night to get it taken care of hopefully!

Because the Comptech swaybar haven't arrived yet, I had to reschedule my appointment for next Friday. Will post a follow-up after the service.

My 05 has the vibration too. It is a vibration that comes through the steering wheel and the floor. I belive it comes from the exhaust at certain RPM's. At first it drove me crazy. I have now gotten use to it. I have it at idle and at 1500 RPM. The structure of the car is very stiff and I believe Acura mis-judged trying to get a growling exhaust. I think that with the minor vibration issue, the folks that say thier TL is smooth are probably not real sensitive to vibrations. My dealer acknoweleged the problem but said it is a trait of all Tl's. The tire vibration and the violent vibrations I have read about are totally different problems.

vibration

I am experiencing the same vibration with an '05....it seems to be when the car is in 1st and 2nd gear and when I am acceleration to around 2000 rpms. It gets pretty annoying.

YES, the vibration is due to the Exhaust resonance produced at 1500 rpm. You can easily duplicate it by starting up your car and whil in park, revving the engive a little to that RPM and you will see that the car starts to shake and vibrate up throught the seats and floorboards. It is either the exhaust or the harmonic balancer that is the culprit. Not something in the drive train

Here's what I had the dealer do today.

- Recover passenger seat
Looks really nice.

- Install Comptech rear sway bar.
I have a 5AT and I would highly recommend this mod. It's twisty time!

- Fix vibration during 1500-2000 rpm.
They did their diagnostics and commented "normal characteristic". Next step???

- Oil change.
This is my first oil change @ 3000 mile.

- Estimate touch-up paint front driver side paint chip.
Got a deep paint chip from who knows where. Getting estimate next week. I may decide to do touch-up myself if it cost too much.

Anyway have a great weekend everyone.

Having read about this problem on this forum, I carefully test drove my 2005 TL before signing on the dotted line. I could definitely feel a minor but distinct vibration at 1500 rpm at about 50-55 mph. I didn't think it was bad enough to turn down the car.

In 1700 miles of driving since, I've never noticed this vibration once. I'm sure it's still there, but without looking for it it's not intrusive enough to be an issue.

On 1/6/05 KTOBLESKY reported:

============
Hey Everyone,

I just got my 05 tl back from the dealership after taking it there for the second time for driveline vibration (I experienced vibration while accelerating through 1800-2200 RPM as noted previously). When I arrived, the service manager told me it was in the exhaust and the way he explained it to me it sounded like they worked on an exhaust system hanger of some sort. He was very excited to tell me that they had figured out the problem. I was skeptical, so before agreeing to sign for the repairs I asked to drive it. To my surprise, they actually did fix it. No vibration.

So, those of you having a problem might want to have your exhaust system thoroughly checked out.
============

but we haven't heard any follow ups about what the fix was or if it was still working. Does anyone know where KTOBLESKY is?

Right, we'd like to know more about that.

(Many dealers confirmed that Acura orders them not to touch this fix until Acura figures it out. )

Here is more info about the exhaust bracket adjustment fix.

From a service statement,

“LOOSEN BRACKET TO NEUTRALIZE. BRACKET WAS FROM OIL PAN TO EXHAUST.

They worked on my car on Monday, so far no vibration, car drives smooth, just the way it should be.

More info

1) This fix came from Acura Engineering
2) It doesn’t fix all cars
3) Bracket needs to be in center

In addition, I went the BBB route (what a joke), loosing my case a month ago. The DSM acknowledged that there is a problem with the 04-05 TL. Acura is working on a fix, some type of damper.

Well that is how they explain away issues... "normal" is defined and well you have to accept normal... right... This is the reason I steered away from acura in 05. The driveline problems has been horrible. 2g trannies issues 3g oil jet (oil jet affected all cars back to 01) and torque converter issue.

Did they extend the warranty to 100K? That is the least they can do...

5th gear vibration

I bought my 04 TL in September of that year. From day one I noticed a vibration or drone felt when driving in 5th gear between 55 and 60 mph at about 1,500 rpm. After several trips to the dealer with this complaint, including a visit from the zone representative, I was told that this condition was considered "acceptable" by Acura and nothing could be done about it. Then in March of 2007 while searching for information about something else for this car in Mitchell's online service manual I discovered a TSB was issued in May of 2005 concerning this problem. The recommended corrective action was to install a dynamic damper onto the bottom of the front subframe near the rear engine mount. The operation number is 2180A1 and the part # is P/N 50207-SEP305. When I told the service manager there was a TSB on this problem he immediately said "Yeah, it requires a dynamic damper." (I then produced a printout of the TSB) To make a long story short, the part was installed and it eliminated 90% of the vibration. I'm angry with the Louisville dealer for making my wife and I suffer through this problem for so long when it could have been fixed two years ago. Just goes to show you have to take care of yourself, nobody else will.

Well, my 07 TL, bought in 01/07 also has the vibration. I started noticing the vibration when the car had only about 900 miles. After couple of visits to the dealer, they installed the damper. I still feel the vibration in those RPM zones (1500 and 1800-2000) but to a lasser extent.
