05 TL leather - design change

Just wanted to note that the 05 TL now has 3 stitched sections to the front seat bottoms, instead of 2. This should help with the excessive stretching and infamous "butt prints". This is the same style seat bottom that is in the TSX and RL. For those having issues I would advise trying to get the updated seat as the warranty replacement.

Sorry if this is a repost.

They just replaced the leather seat cover yesterday-no such luck-it looked exactly like what was there before.

Thanks for the pix. Points for you. I'll try to get this into the 3G garage as this is an issue some will ask about.

Well, I bet the part numbers are different for the 05 TL, which is why they're still replacing 04 TLs with the old style. By the way - does this apply for the rear seats too?

IMHO, severe butt prints are caused by inadequate patting/support under the leather. Besides excessive wrinkes on the side bolsters are here to stay unless they completely changed the leather supplier. Isn't it funny Acura used to say all the above problems are "normal". If so, why did they change the design for 05 cars?

Probably because they received a lot of comments from those who don't frequent this site. Either that, or they really did listen to us for once.

BTW, points for thebolt99.

Be aware. They replaced my seat cover yesterday and left 8 sharp scratches around the seat.

I just got my 04 like 2 weeks ago and that is one of the things i really didnt like. Tomorrow i'm going to the dealership to pick up my license plate and will ask them. Let see if they'll replace them for an 05 or atleast how much it will be. Cuz that really makes the interior look bad.

Acura is a lying sack

YEAH! I brought my baby in yesterday for an a-spec install and had them look at my seats because they ar HORRIBLE after only 3000 miles. They look like they have 30,000 miles on them! They said it was " normal" wear LOL...I called another dealer and received the same respoinse. I think Acura is telling these dealers to say it is do called NORMAL when it in fact is far from normal. Acura , please explain your design change because the dealers refused to do anything about it and right now there is a smoking gun with your name on it!

The car probably has 20+ revisions to save cost either up front or under warranty. Not stuff you see in marketing information, but years from now when you go to replace a part you find there is a difference between the years.

Took my '04 TL in for butt print issues. Dealer talked with Acura and they agreed to replace the seat covers, no questions asked. Since the rears were starting to fail as well, they ordered a full set, all four seating positions. Dealer rep says it's the leather. I say it's the padding under the leather. Rep says the padding is attached to the back of the leather. Can't tell without removing cushion materails. I asked, have the materials been modified or upgraded? Rep didn't know. I don't want to go thru the same scenario in another 5K mi. We'll see. Parts are now in. Having the install next week. I'll advise.

Thank you for posting this, and to the others in this thread for posting the pics. I fired off a letter to my dealer, with the pic, asking to have my 2004 with 3k miles' skins replaced with the 2005 spec covers. We will see.

Off-topic, but of interest. The email link for Crown Acura of Richmond was only to "sales@..." - so I sent to them and asked them to route it to service. i will follow up with a phone call in a few days, but it is intersting that their "outreach" consists only to sales, not customer service. This is why I do not consider my purchase an "experience", but a transaction. Let's see if they liove up to their commitment of A-1 customer service.

That's BS. I have the old skin-I will post some pictures later-There is very little padding attached to the skin itself.

It may be just the way the picture came out, but this leather doesn't look perforated to me. The center section and the bolsters on each side look identical. Can someone verify this?

I have an '05 with Ebony interior, and it is perforated. Camera phones don't show the detail of better cameras. This picture isn't a lot better, but at least you can see there is a difference.

Thanks. I didn't think Acura would change the perforated leather for 05, but it looks so unlike perforated leather in the picture I just had to ask.

On another car I recently had a ripped fabric seat pretty much rebuild and matched with new fabric for 60 bucks. If you can get satisfaction from the dealer -great. I might consider bringing it to a custom car seat shop and have them fix it better than factory for less than 100.

Has anyone called up Acura to see if it's possible to change it to the 05 seat? There is definitely a problem, otherwise Acura wouldn't had changed them.

I had my seats replaced under warrenty after just a few weeks, I still notice butt prints now but they are not as bad as what some of you experience. they replaced it and its the same style as 04

Acura should do a recall...
