05 TL 6MT vs 08 Lexus GS350 (highway runs)

Went to Tampa FL for the weekend and ran a friend who just bought a black Lexus GS350

3 races (just so nobody says driver error, we had plenty of chances) all from 40mph-140mph. I walk him each and every race, ending up about a good 3-4 cars ahead.

I start pulling slowly as soon as we hit the gas but I do the most damage at the top of 4th gear it seems like his car runs out of steam at that point.

Good day gentlemen

Nice runs Alex! From a stop is where the GS350 really moves! Some people have hit 13.8 in the 1/4 mile stock! From a roll though is where I could see you pulling.

Nice kill Alex!

Those are definitely quick cars, quicker than the older ones for sure.

The LS460s are fast....watch out for those, they should beat us.

And the GS4** is faster/quicker than both! Like you said prior if that race would have started from a start results probably would have been different.

I think someone on this board said that the IS350 is geared to do well for the 1/4 mile and after that it's not all that fast. I'd imagine the GS350 has similar gear ratios as the IS350.

Indeed both have the same forward gear ratios, but the final drive ratio of the IS is 4.08:1 vs the GS350's 3.73:1. So the IS is geared more for performance than the GS....which likely explains why Lexus lists the GS350 RWD as having better fuel economy than the 400lb+ lighter IS350.

okay so its geared well to go from 0-105ish I'm guessing? Do you really need to go faster than that on public roads?

Wow, I did not know that. I've just seen a couple speedo vids of the LS460 (older I believe, maybe 04ish?) and it seemed fast up top.

GS350's can run 13.8-13.9 sec 1/4 mile's. HOWEVER, they only do so at 98-99 mph. They really are off the line cars and lose MAJOR steam on the top end.

Can't wait to go to the track and see what I can do I should trap at least 2-3mph more then a GS350 in the 1/4 though, seeing as how I walked this one.

Thanks Sonnick! The LS460 is one amazing machine!! I've driven one and they glide over the road, not drive so smooth and very powerful!

Yup, I'll get my ass handed to me by a V8 GS I still think I'd beat the GS350 from start, maybe not by 3-4 cars but definitely pull on it. It will be harder, I know that for sure.

That's what it seemed like on the highway, he kept up until 110mph or so after that I was just gone. I love how the TL has a strong 4th gear especially with the mods.

Kinda like my 2G TL's 4th gear it was horrible!

Eh, sometimes you gotta see what your car can do. Highway was empty and we had 4 empty lanes to ourselves.

True, cars are getting faster every day. Now we have 4 door Camry's hitting 145mph and 14.xx 1/4 mile

Idk...you'd be surprised. To beat a GS350 by 3-4 cars you'd probably creep on an IS350. From a roll of course

Btw, this was the RWD GS not the AWD. I had 2 other passengers and he was alone. I had my stock wheels as well, not the 19's in my sig.

Went to a Indiana yesterday on my RSX, low gas...maybe 3 gallons left in tank, only person in car as well. I raced one of these with 3 fat guys inside, I pulled right past him. He would be in left lane, then scoot into right lane and go WOT and get back into left lane. He kept doing that, so after 3rd time I caught on and dropped it into 4th, got into VTEC zone and let it rip after him, I had to let off because I would of rear-ended him lol.

Nice Kill! 0-60 times on the GS are only just under 6 seconds. You would think he would have more up at the top, but you proved that wrong.

What you experienced seem spot on. The GS350 I believe has poor gearing after the quarter mile. Many of these automatic cars are designed for quarter mile runs and after that it's weak. Good win, btw.

And be safe out there.. 140 mph is very dangerous speed..

I forecast that the IS350 will be faster even from roll as I believe it has shorter gears than the GS350 up top, and has more aggressive final drive ratio, plus it's lighter. They are actually faster than many people think from roll. Mine is just a tad slower than the 335i (1 car length), and MS3 is a bit faster than the IS350. But the cars like Honda Accord and Acura TL are easy to beat. It's not even a comparison, unless they are supercharged. Cute kid.

Also, if you were to run with the GS350 from dig he would have smoked you. Young one..

^^ Seriously. Great, your MS3 is faster than the TL. Congrats on your "speed3" made for enthusiasts being faster than a luxury sedan

I would still love to find you on the streets in your MS3, or IS350 for that matter, and give you a taste of my ricer VTEC wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Stop clogging up Alex's threads.

Ok, for those with decent reading comprehension, this reads that you do in fact own an IS350.

Manual Transmission and MS3 Demon are one in the same; I knew it.

Oh god I knew it!!! Oh man I missed that guy! Economy must have hit him hard to go from the IS350 to that ugly econo-box. I thought he would've had better taste though hahaha

+1 on a Mod banning this guy polluting every damn thread with is undying love for the IS350/MS3
