05 TL 5AT vs. Dodge Charger R/T

ok, so i was stopped on this 3 lane street (Pacific Coast Highway) at a stoplight. This guy and his girlfriend in his dodge charger r/t pulls up to me, looks at me and revs his engine. The charger immediately floors it. i look at the light and see its green and im off. He got maybe at least a 1 car length headstart. I catch up to him and am neck and neck with him once i hit 120. once i notice my speedometer was at 120 i immediately slam on the breaks (dont want to get a ticket and lose my license). The charger keeps on going faster and faster.

I couldnt believe how i could catch up to a 340 hp rear wheel drive hemi v8. All i can think of is that my car only had 160 lbs on stuff inside the car (im 150lbs and i had probably 10 lbs worth of junk), while his car had at least 400lbs (250lb guy with his 150lb girlfriend) inside of his car.

btw my tl is bone stock.

Also one more thing i couldnt help but notice you said that you were doing 120 and you slammed on your brakes not to get a ticket..... dude your already going to jail should have taken it all the way...lol

Those chargers weigh 500 or 600 pounds more that the TL which eats up some of that horsepower.

Too bad...

It's too bad you had to back off - don't blame you for doing so - because those lead bricks are speed limited to around 125. Another 5 mph and his limiter would have kicked in and you'd have shot by him.

The 5.7 HEMI (such as it is) is an entirely overrated engine. You take a hard look at the 0-60 times on the 300s and Chargers (SRT excluded) and there are plenty of cars out there that can meet or beat those times. The new Toyota Avalon is within .1 sec of a 300C 0-60.

Really? I didn't know that they were limited that much, that really sucks (for them). I've seen a few Chargers here, most are just the base models, though I have seen a few ones with HEMIs. None have tried to challenge me yet though. I usually get challenges from V6 Mustangs, 325 BMWs, and 2.5 Altimas. (I have an 05 6MT TL)

Where does it say he lost?

The guy jumped him and he still matched the guy. You could call it a draw since they ended even, I call it a No Contest.

300C's are very heavy cars as are chargers, I think dodge needs to put the charger on a diet and raise the friggin; governor to at least 150 if not 160. if you buy a sports car you want to drive it really fast sometimes, right? 125 is not really fast, it is fast. I have only gotten my TL up to 130mph, it felt secure, but I wasn't ballsy or stupid enough to take past that even though going 130 isn't smart.

Those Mopars are heavy.

But my friends Magnum AWD wagon went 14.3 with an air filter.

The Chargers DO NOT HAVE a governor at 125. They can do 145-150

The reason you caught up to him is because the chargers top out at 126 the exact sam thing happened to me when I raced my friend with an R/T.

I had a run with a Magnum R/T yesterday on the highway.. I was already going 130-140km (80-85miles) behind this guy on my way to work.. we got our opening, I downshifted from 5th to 4th then from 4th to "DAMN... I'm going to fast to downshift to THIRD... There he goes.... bye bye..".
Finally forth finally started to pick up and he was a good 10-15 cars in front of me... but low and behold I've stopped him from gaining .. he must have hit his limiter or close to it, because as 4th gear approaches redline.. I'm reeling him in... I do a 2nd lane flyby at 230km (140miles). He must have hit his limiter by now...It must suck to have a limiter in a car so powerful?... That's just one reason I upgraded from my 99 S-10-SS a few years ago.. Great little truck but 160km governed..I was beat by my boss in his Olds Alero)

In his mind he smoked me instantly from the get-go.. but all of us know our 3rd gear vtec pulls like a mother F'er and I'm confident I would have gotten him a little suprised with the power of our NA V6, and quite possibly given him a good run. The Magnum is heavier than the 300C and the Charger (I believe). I'm not sure about the Hemi Cherokee..it is probably the heaviest our of the HEMI line.

hemis go between 4000-4200lbs. I can't believe 300c is lightest of all. It looks like it will be heaviest
