05 G35 6 speed + 03 350z kill.

I was cruising down calvine road one day when i noticed that i was being tailed by a g35. i knew it wasnt the 06-07 b/c it didnt have the projector headlights or taillights. conveniently the light turns red. we both line up. i turn off the vsa and started to get ready. i knew he was getting ready as well as i saw him rocking back and forth. the light turns green and we both take off, we are neck and neck through all of 1st gear, when i shifted to second i started to pull by a fender. after 3rd i was about 3/4 car length ahead. the next light is red so we line up again. when the light turned green we both took off the same time. this time i was pulling slightly through 1st gear and had him by 1/2 a car through 2nd and a full car by 3rd. ive taken a few automatic g35's but this has to be the first 6mt ive raced.

next kill.. a buddy of mine has an 03 350z 6 speed. he is trying to rub in how his car is soo quick and the rwd would kill me right off the line blah blah blah.. he has an intake and a plenum spacer ( whatever the heck that is ). so i ask him if we wanted to run for $20.. he agrees so we take the car's to a road that doesn't have that much traffic. we line up and he gives it the ol fashion 3 honks. right on the 3rd honk we took off. I launched it really good and he did as well. during 1st he was ahead by half a fender, 2nd gear i started to pull even, and at the end of 3rd i was ahead by a fender length. when we stopped i asked him where is my $20 . He wanted to run it again double or nothing. but no launch.. he wanted to do a 15mph roll. so we line up and started to go 15mph.. i am in 1st with vsa off. this time i give it the 3 honks and we both take off. i am ahead a fender length after 1st. roughly half a car during 2nd and a full car on the top of 3rd. we stop and i thanked him for the free full tank of gas .

by the way i have a 2004 6mt with an ebay aem cold air intake

Nice kills Everyone thinks we're crazy staying next to/beating G35/350z 6MTs in our TL/Accord 6MTs. Nice to see you pulled 2 wins, nice driving!

Freaking nice, love to see it. I was thinking about getting rid of my TL and switching to like a BMW or Mercedes, but I think I might keep it get some cash and trade it in for a newer and a 6mt one, they seem awesome!

i have also raced a 2002 audi a6 2.7t biturbo with a chip and that adds to the kill list. i have also raced a stock gsr ek hatch.. that is another kill

TL's are pretty quick sedans ..

Nice kill bro, these are some worthy opponents too! Many cars are surprised when the TL is showing them it's taillights

^^ The '06 will definitely be a tougher race, I think that's the year they came out with 306hp? Either way it should be close but I wouldn't expect a win unless driver error on the G. Good luck!

298hp but close enough. That would be a good race.

I hate this 5 min Edit crap. Given equal drivers the G should win. Outdrive him tho and you should take it

Didn't Nissan revise that rating later due to the new SAE ratings? I want to say it was revised to 286hp for the Rev-up. I could be wrong though.

he is a decent driver.. has trouble launching though. ill probably take him on the launch because he will most likely bog down.. but as far as from a roll its going to be close

The 286hp you're thinking of is the TL-S' numbers. I believe it was 306hp for the G.

In 2007, there was a weird year for the G35.

- The G35 sedan was entirely new and had the 306hp (SAE) VQ35HR motor.

- The G35 coupe was still in it's first gen and the 6MT had 293hp (new SAE numbers vs 298hp) and the 5AT was 275hp (down from 280hp). Nothing changed with the motors, it was simply a revision to match the new SAE system.

Congrads on the kills, and very nice write-up - I felt as if I was watching the race. Just a question; how fast does the TL go in 3rd (MT)?

Wow, that's some pretty deep gearing for a stock 6MT. The Revup G/Z does closer to 70mph in 2nd and nearly 100mph in 3rd. My 5AT G does 102mph in 3rd.

Actually, 1st is redlining ~30 mph, but all the rest are on the money.

1st gear at redline is doing higher than 30MPH. 38MPH is pretty accurate.

Looks like 38MPH to me in 1st.

You thought 30mph was the redline on an '06 TL 6MT so I would have to assume you shifted to 2nd at around 30 mph? that explains why your trap speed wasn't so good at the track. i'm kind of surprised that you didn't know this whole time.

You are just about spot on..

p.s. you can push the 3rd gear to around 92 mph before shifting to the 4th.

Update!

I ran against my friends 06 g35 6 speed. His mods are intake, plenum spacers and hi flow cats. We raced from a dig 3 times. He doesnt know how to launch just yet so i took him all 3 times. I dont really wanna count that as a win . So then we raced from a 20 mph roll. we raced 3 times and everytime i pull about 1/2 car at the end of 2nd. just for a tease he honked all three races and plus i gave him a fender lead each race .

You assume too much. I pay attention to the tach if I'm looking for max acceleration, not the speedo.

If you learn the shift points on a given car you don't have to worry about over-revving it. See my chart below for shifting your acura:

1st: 38 mph
2nd: 62 mph
3rd: 92 mph
4th: 122 mph
5th: 152 mph (electronically limited for 2nd gen TL 6MT)
6th: 152 mph (same as above)

Shifting at these speeds will get you the max power out of your car because your VTEC needs sufficient rpm to keep you in the power band.

Are you kidding me? I'd better put my flame suite on ... Come into Acura forum and show Acura fans how to shift their cars.
