05 DC5 vs. E39 M5 vs. 03 350Z

Mods are in the video but here ya go since I know you're lazy

RSX: Intake/Header/Exhaust/OEM Civic Si Intake Manifold/KPRO Tuned
M5: Intake/Muffler Delete
350Z: Intake/Headers/Exhaust/Tune/Clutch/Flywheel

The Z said he ran 13.6 @ 105, so results are about as I thought they'd be. Honestly thought the M5 would be faster tho..... :evil2

The E39 M5 is fast. Just not dramatically so.

Not at all, but they can't get over it over on Bimmerforums.com

They have literally used every excuse in the book as to how my RSX hung with the almighty M5. Believe me, I was surprised he was so close as well until past 100, in which he began to walk by but these guys over on that forum are so ignorant and arrogant it amazes me. They've said the M5 has a bad driver, clogged MAFs, car is beat, was really a 540.....then they move onto my car which they claim doesn't have stock internals, lol. Funny stuff.

I've done my research, the M5 in stock form should go 13.2 @ 107 according to motor trend. I've seen a few w/ light mods on Drag Times go 106 traps. My car went a best of 104.35 w/ consistent 103+ runs in September with the sun blazing down on the car. I think in some cooler weather I might be able to hit 105 trap w/ just 4 bolt ons and a tune for power mods on a NA 4 cylinder.

I also might run a different E39 M5, this Saturday to see if this was some kind of fluke run like these guys say it was or if I really can hold off an M5 until triple digits.

Ha, those Bimmer guys are tools. Especially the guy from Boston who says your car "shines" off the line vs a RWD sports sedan and keeps comparing your upper 13 runs vs the lower 13's the M should run. He obviously doesn't understand ET vs trap speed. Looks about right for a 104 vs a 107 mph car.

Been there, done that, got the tee shirt. The older M5's are nowhere as quick as the M5 guys want to believe. They can really get their knickers all knotted up over "lesser" cars giving them greif. The new one is another story.

Yeah, the new one is a high 11/120 mph car. I can only imagine how sick those are going to be with a little boost tuning/bolt ons.

Nice runs! I have seen many stock E39 M5's run at Sears Point (Infineon) Raceway back when I lived in Sonoma, Ca. They easily run 13.1-13.3 @107-109MPH stock. Definitely fast for 400hp back in the day. Always loved that car. Just a maintainence nightmare!

Exactly, which is why I am hoping this M5 comes out tomorrow so that I can repeat the results and piss them off even more. Gotta love their ignorance.

Here's a view of the 2nd pull from behind.
Boosted E30, chase car.

I'm not even sure that a note signed in blood by a BMW master technician that the car is in top mechanical condition, with no issues and that it is in fact an M and not a 540 will change their outlook.

A 3mph trap difference is fairly significant, but depending on where each car is in its respective powerband, things can stay pretty close until the stronger car stretches its legs over the course of a couple gears. That's exactly what happened here. They're pretty dumb to think the M5 would just start pulling tractor trailer lengths on you in a matter of seconds.

It's too bad BMW has the stereotype that it does, regarding the arrogance and d-bag factor. Their cars are at the top of their game and are truly timeless in their style. The true enthusiast owners get lost in the sea of surgically altered soccer moms and upper corporate management assholes that make up 95% of the demographic. Even a good chunk of the M and sport model owners just buy them for the snob appeal and are utterly clueless about their cars.

Just be careful out there.
