Anyone else think the step on step off foot brake on the 2nd Gen TL is the stupidest thing ever? At least give me a pull brake release. At least that is a little bit more manly.

Agreed, reminds me of a Buick. How un-Honda of them to do that.

I can't believe people really do this to a car that is not a rental.

Actually, I know that the 2002 Odyssey and the 2000 Accord V6 also had the step on step off brake. Unfortunately, it is very "Honda."

This is why I try not to buy used cars. You don't know how they were treated.

Alright, enough of the Drew982tl bashing session please. I have a thing for pulling the ebrake. I do it once in a blue moon, not everyday and I do not do it like Clive Owens in the BMW films. I was simply making a thread explaining why i am upset at the fact my TL does not have a handbrake and the new ones do. The only thing pulling the brake can do is destroy the cable and flatten a tire, both things which are easily repairable. I would rather fix those than deal with an engine that is taken past the recommended service mile. I have a 95 explorer which was my first car as well as my sisters. she ragged the hell out of it and I repaired all of her mess ups and kept it in great condition, now my parents run it into the ground, the seals in the engine are shot and it burns oil, when i had it it went through tires a little more often than it should have but it ran like new. A car can last forever as long as you take care of it. I do what I do and I am well aware of the fact that i may have to repair things on the car. I have never sold a car yet but I would not dump problems on to soemone else. I am sorry that there are people like that out there.

Since when did the Accord EVER have this? The Odyssey, yes, its a minivan, thats understandable.

You are right on the Accord - my mistake. Sheesh, that's even worse that the Accord had a hand brake, while the TL had a foot brake.

Actually I'm now used to the foot brake and like it a lot. It save a lot of space in the center console.

I'll give ya that, the space is nice, but everytime i let someone drive my car, or I give my car to a valet or...no the best time when i hated the footbrake...this is a great story. My sister moves my car in the driveway. She pulls the hood release thinking it is the brake release. We get the Palmetto Expressway in Miami, and I notice my hood is shaking ever so slightly in the wind. I say to my sis "did you pull anything when you were moving my car?" she says "yeah, the brake release." I said "You Dumb!@#$%^&* that is a hood release not a brake release." got off on an exit in liberty city and secured my hood. It was 10 in the moring so felt safe. People dont have trouble finding a handbrake especially blondes such as my sis who just took the bar exam.

It is confusing to strangers as to how to release the parking brake. Yet another reason not to valet.

i think the only reason honda moved the brake on the 04 to be a hand brake is so they have room for a clutch..... think about it

04 in stick

Yeah I heard they are making the 04 TL in a manual. Considering every rival car in its class has the option. Why did Acura think no one would want a manual 4door... Who the hell sits at the drawing board and thinks a 4door car with sporty options, should not have a manual transmission as an option.

Yes, finally there will be a manual. Acura must have had a few left over from the cancelled CL.
