'04 TL vs. '68 Oldsmobile Cutlass

Since we've already debated to death the pros and cons of our beloved TL against almost every other new car on the road, I decided it was high time we clog the board with even more meaningless comparisons against cars of yore.

My first car was a very old and very beat up '68 Olds Cutlass with a Rocket 350 V8 that chugged gas faster than a fraternity boy does beer. But from zero, it could outgun almost everything else out there.

I wonder how it would do against the TL?

I will say this: the TL has a much nicer navigation system, better 5.1 audio, and much better Xenon headlights.

The '68 Olds had a more sophisticated drooping headliner system, though.

no contest TL wins hands down. I had a 68 427 Vette conv. (all original) which I sold 6 yrs ago and it can't compete with today's high HP cars.

Had a '78 with the T top and leather. Not much of a handler or runner. And, the air-conditioner always blew on your feet, making them painfully cold on the freeway.

This was a '78 Cutlass? I didn't know they ever made it with a T top. That car must have been a surefire piece of junk. Were American cars ever worse than in the late 70s?

'04 TL vs. '94 Escort

Ok, I'm driving a 1994 Ford Escort but leaning heavily towards replacing it with an '04 TL.

My only concern is that I've been reading alot about how much the TL rattles. I'd hate to replace my Escort with something that rattles. What do you all think?

I got that same car in Janurary of 1970 with 22k miles on it. Mine was blue with a black vinyl top and white vinyl buckets. Truly was one helluva car but maybe my memory is biased because of what went on in the car(I was a teenager). Had almost unlimited torque and the old GM v8 was bulletproof. Could be scary as hell on a wet or icy road-the rear always wanted to go down the road first if I hit the gas just a little too hard.
