04 TL - MT
33333 miles...no joke
1. Whatever the dealer puts in that is 5W-20
2. Change the oil when the MID says 20% - which is about every 5k.
3. I have not changed the transmission fluid yet, but when I do it will be with syncomesh.
4. The car still looks, feels, and runs great! Within the first 1000 miles it was lowered with comptech springs...felt rock solid - but now I think it feels a bit soft. I am not sure if that is because I drive it all the time and I am just used to it or if the springs are actually getting softer.

I got you beat. O4 WDP/AT/No nav with 19200 miles! I bought a motorcyle about a year after the car and use it as my primary transportation. Anyway, I change the oil myself at 10-20% on MID (Any conventional 5/20 on sale with a Walmart 7317 Supertech filter). Haven't done the AT or coolant fluid yet. The only other thing I've had to do was replace a bum handsfree module (by dealer under warranty). I'm glad to hear that wear and tear seems to be occuring at a better than average clip for most owners. My lease expires in June 08 and if I can keep the mileage low I plan to buy it unless the 09's could possibily look better.

'04 SSM TL delivered December, 2003. Still under 14K miles. We have two others cars and fly when traveling. Waiting to see if the '09 Fourth Generation TL will be as big a hit as the current generation. If they are, I'll get a new one late next year.

I have posted in the past. Mileage is currently at 151,000. The only issue that has come up is the A/C compressor went up at 142,000 miles.( While it was in the shop, I had the timing belt service completed)

114k 04

114K 04 TL Navi! RUNS GREAT! No major problems so far. (knock on wood)!!!

As per dealer instructions, I didnt change the tranny fluid until the recommendation but there after I change it every 15K-25K, depending on driving habits.

Oil-Majority of time Mobil 1 Synth. 3-5 changes w/Penzoil Syn.

Reliability - I needed a car that was able to log excessive highway miles and not incurr problems. Factor in power and all luxury features.

I had an minor issue with spark plugs <~~~due to my own aggressive hard driving!!!!

Navi issue w/ DVD disk, it could have possibly resulted on the way I cleaned the disk

It seems with CTS/G35 that the bench mark for entry level is 300HP and ALL Wheel Drive. I cant wait for the 2009!

Mods:
SWBlade key fob
Eibach Pro-Kit Sprins
Koni Yellows
07 TLS TailLights and Sidemarkers
18" Aspec Wheels w/ 245/40/18 Bridgestone Potenza RE960 PP

Well I spoke too soon, I had 0 problems at 81,000 miles then at 82,000 my rear view mirror shorted which along with the rear view mirror took out a bunch of interior lighting, which is odd since it had the right fuse 7.5 (IG Meter fuse). I have replaced all the lighting myself except for the Homelink which I am replacing soon since Homelink uses LED's versus bulbs the entire unit must be replaced, but since it's the most expensive part at $300+ it will have to wait a week or so. I love my TL too much. Lights/switches replaced so far: VSA Off switch, moonroof button light, mirror control switch, brightness control button light, driver's side A/C bulb in center console, and the hazard light. The only light I cannot seem to recall if it ever lit up is the phone controls on the steering wheel, the top bottom to make a call lights up but the bottom one to end a call does not, I'm sure that it is supposed to so I will have to check into that one as well. Although a strange occurence I must say for this being my first problem I am very fortunate.

You had 106K miles in Aug of 2006 and now in Sep 2007 you have over 151K miles...saying that you drive your car quite alot would be an understatement...lol.

It's good to hear it's still running well for you. At 142K miles, the A/C compressor going bad is nothing. Now I'm confident that I can take my 06 to over 200K miles. Continue to keep us posted on the status of your car

110k miles 04AT

I got almost 110k on my 04 Auto. I bought it with 74k on it a couple of years ago. I got the MID to R&R the timing belt around 108k. I did it all myself along with the water pump, thermostat, coolant (of course), timing tensioner and both pully assemblies, acc. belt, Right engine mount, 3rd and 4th gear pressure switches (trans), trans fluid and filter (yes, filter), oil and filter, cabin filter, air filter (cleaned K&N). Oh, and calibrated the sunroof. Approx $700 in parts (I think), and free labor.

I've replaced the junk brakes with some RacingBrake rotors and pads on all four corners with stainless lines and new fluid. The starter quit at 82k miles. Replaced with a reman from the parts store.

I keep having this nagging EGR problem and can't figure out why. The car is loosing low end power and surging at highway speeds. I replaced the EGR valve @ 95k, but now at 110k, it's acting up again. I hate to throw another $85 valve at it.

It's been a great car and if I can get this EGR/Drivability issue fixed, I'll keep it for quite a while.

My original tranny is one of the 'fixed' ones. Had to replace it because it was slipping. At the time it was replaced (for free no warranty) the tranny knowledge was not up to the level it is today. Given the info out now (on this forum) it may have been those pressure switches.

might interest you guys: i drove an 06 NBP TL 6mt the other day (NON navi) that has 43k miles and the differences were slight to my 120+k mile car. The clutch felt like it had a better engagement point than mine, i suspect due to clutch wear on my car, the 06 was slightly quieter, and the transmission shifted better and had a more fluid feel to it, but very slightly at that. I suspect the difference in mileage made the difference, but on a good note, the engine in my 04 ran just as quick and powerful as the 06, maybe even slightly better, even though the cold idle on my 04 isnt as smooth. Warm idle, both cars are fairly close in smoothness.

hope this helps as far as how the car seems to held up vs a newer model

on a side note:
Non performance/wear items i noticed (maybe you did too) between the 04 and 06: the steering wheel and shift knob seem to be switched from a leather type to more of a vinyl product on the 06, however i think the front seats have a better feel and design on the 06. I have to say though, the 06 was non navi, and its def somthing that i missed immediatley from my 04

also

NE14RoxCJ:

Did you ever clean out the egr ports in the intake manifold? That may have somthing to do with it...

04AT @ 108k miles

1. What type of oil did you use?
2. How often do you change your oil?
3. How often did you change your transmission fluid?
4. How often do you change your air filter?
5. How do you car run now?

1. Pennzoil... this is what a local shop uses.
2. According to the MID.
3. According to the MID..
4. According to the MID...
5. Car still runs great. I picked up my car in Dec 03 so it was part of the oil jet recall but I'm still on the original tranny with no problems. The only real problem I had was the MICU when my door locks stopped working. Of course I was out of warranty... but then again, I never did buy the extended warranty so one issue during this time is not bad!

Other than that... I changed out the spark plugs at about 100k. I had the timing belt/water pump done at 105k. I'm on my 3rd set of tires... and still on my original rotors. I changed all the brake pads at about 60k... so the next time I do the brakes, I will be putting in new rotors.

Are there any 04 TL owners out there that has mileage over 100K? If so,
1. What type of oil did you use? Mobile synthetic 5 30 or 5 20
2. When did you first change your oil (in terms of mileage)? I change every 4000-5000 miles
3. How often did you change your transmission fluid? I am not sure I bought the car with 95k miles on it and the guy that previously owned it always took it to the dealer ship. None the less I am going to change out my tranny sensors and change my fluid soon.
4. Does your car still run like it is brand new? I didn't own when it was new so I have no idea. I am the 2nd owner.

I have 110000 miles on it. I need to do the 105k service still. Other than that I love the car.

Almost to 78,000 miles. I have an 04 Auto. No trans problems yet. Motor is solid. In fact the whole car is solid. I've done all the regular maitinence and probably more so than needed on some things. I've done the drain and fill on the trans twice since 35K miles. I'm saving up to do the timing belt waterpump service now. I'll do the plugs while I'm at it as well.

FYI, the cold idle isn't supposed to be smooth. The ECU/ULEV system does that intentionally (misfires) when the engine is cold to warm up the Cats. It's in the owner's manual. There's likely nothing wrong with your cold idle.

Update: Turned 151K miles, Car still runs great and trans shifts good. Might have to change the stock clutch by 160-170k, I can feel the engagement changing but it still holds fine.

Update to my Original post. My 04 just turned 90K miles 2 days ago. I've done drain and fills on the trans since 35k miles when I bought it. My trans still shifts well and the fluid is clean. Oil changes have been done every 3-5k miles. I did a seafoam treatment 1 k miles ago. I also just replaced the timing belt and water pump as well as the spark plugs. I just did the serpentine belt and put a yellowtop Optima battery in while I was at it. Probably have another year or so on the brakes and tires. I've never had a trans issue or power steering issue. The car runs terrific and is always reliable.

I just hit 154,000 miles on my '04 Auto TL.

1. Mobil 1 5w-20 synthetic or Motorcraft 5w-20 syn-blend.
2. When it was time to change it.. whenever that was. lol.
3. According to schedule. Starting with this last trans fluid change, I'll probably do it every 20,000 miles or so (yearly).
4. Probably not like new, but it still runs great. Only major repairs I've had is a power steering pump replaced at around 70-80,000 miles under warranty (not sure it needed to be) and a couple of motor mounts at around 120,000 miles, I think (common issue with these TL's from what I've seen). Suspension parts are still the original parts and aren't as "tight" as they used to be, but that's to be expected after 150,000+ miles, I guess.

* '04. 5AT. 111,450 miles.

1. What type of oil did you use?
- Mobil 1 synthetic (5w-20 I think)

2. I follow the MID's oil %.

3. How often did you change your transmission fluid?
- I just did a 1x3 of redline D4 ATF at 108k. I'm gonna' do a 2x3 soon to finish up.

4. Does your car still run like it is brand new?
- It runs well for it's age. Shifts are a little rough but they're predictable and I blame myself for not doing a full 3x3 ATF change. Other than that I've got a few rattles here and there that kind of bug me at times and my headliner sags sometimes...that pisses me off. Other than that, the suspension feels good but I'll probably swap it out within the next year or two.

I bought my '04 in March 2004 and it has 114,000 trouble-free miles on it. I'm now driving 30K miles a year, getting 31mpg (almost all highway miles). Did the timing belt maintainence at 105K, and also changed the spark plugs. Only problems so far - a/c works fine, but fan is getting noisy; passenger window was giving me trouble, but just found a TSB fix that worked. And no rattles - ever! I love this car!

1. What type of oil did you use? Mobil 1 synthetic
2. How often do you change your oil? Every 6,000 - 7,000 miles; if I happen to need the tires rotated and I'm at 15 - 20%, I'll do the oil early so I don't have to go back to the shop.
3. How often did you change your transmission fluid? Annually
4. How often do you change your air filter? Annually
5. How does your car run now? A+

04 with 115k
ams oil 10w 40(texas heat)
change every 6k.
trans at 58k due for another just too lazy
It still runs great. quick of the line but passing gears seem a little weak. I am not sure if it has to do with that number 2 and three trans sensor. Had timing belt done at 100k. did spark plugs myself at 105k.

The trans fluid( auto) is changed about every 20 to 25K
The air filter is change every 20 to 25K as well.

The car runs just like new and I still have the orginal spark plugs( The MID has not said to change them out)

Hope this helps.
I would change the plugs ASAP. It must be black inside.
