Hi everyone, recently bought an 04 TL 6sp MT. I have 42,000 miles. I recently did an oil change on it, put in the correct amount of oil, checked the dipstick, everything was ok. A few weeks later I checked the dipstick again it was down a quart, so I put a quart in. I am at 50% oil life right now and I am down another quart!
Does anyone else have this problem? I changed the oil filter at the same time that I did the oil change, the other one was absolutely trashed, however I could not find the correct filter application originally, and the closest dealer was an hour and 1/2 away. So i crossed referenced a filter for an accord and it fit perfectly.
That is the only thing that I have done differently, there is no smoke or anything from the car, and I always check the oil on level ground. Any ideas?

Check in the AM
Try checking in the AM first thing before you start the car.
I've noticed on my TL that checking when the engine is warm and the car has sat for awhile makes it look like it is down a quart.

My car's oil level has never changed between oil changes. I have 30% oil life and my oil is still a nice golden color.
What does your oil look like? Is it dark black after a few miles? If so, you may have poor ring seal and you may be losing oil during combustion. How hard is the car driven?
Also, use the same procedure to check the oil. Make sure the car is level, allow the oil to warm, shut off the engine and wait the same number of minutes each time you check to make sure you are comparing apples to apples.
I had a friend who checked his oil the instant he turned off his engine and the dipstick showed it was a quart low. We drained about seven quarts from his 4 quart sump because he never gave the oil time to drain down to the oil pan.
