'04 TL Battery Life - Anyone replaced yet?
I just pulled my car into my garage to clean it and rolled down all the windows, turned on the radio, and went to town vacuuming etc. After about an hour the radio cutout. That's funny they must be having transmitter problems. But then I went to start the car and the battery was dead, Couldn't have been on for more than an hour. It's an 04 TL non-nav and I had the doors open and radio on. Should it last more than an hour? Is it time for a new battery based on age alone? (I assume battery isn't covered under warranty at this point..)
Also, are people having any luck putting in a highend battery? Which do you recommend?
Thanks,
Jeff

My 04's had to be replaced. Was getting service at dealership they ended up calling later saying it had a dead cell and had to be replaced. I just got another acura one from them. There is some brake down of how much acura will cover the batteries, mine was in 4th year, they covered 25% of it. <- I think Im remembering this right, ill look for the paper to see how old it was and how much I paid.

Its very common. There are a lot of threads here on the same subject.
I had to replace the battery on my 04 just 3 months before the end of the 4 yr lease. I repalced it with an OEM Acura battery and paid not only for the replacement but a battery test as well!
Wished I had read this forum before I had it replaced as many members here have had theirs replaced fo free.

I had to replace the battery in the 11th month of having bought the TL. They said it was defected and a replacement was issued free of charge. THANK GOD! I think it was going to be pretty expensive if it wasn't covered.

Seems to me that acura really isnt ontop of their game...my batteries have always lasted me very long, the Acura is not even a year old and no battery problems yet but we'll see how long it is before it's replaced...my friend actually bought an 08 TL-S and had his battery go out within 3 months of owning it and had it replaced by the dealer
...I just had the original battery that came with the my lexus, replaced after 8 years and my older Merc had it's batter replaced 2-3 years ago and lasted a good 7-8 years as well...hopefully I wont need to have the Acura's battery replaced any earlier then 6-7 years

Like TLMcovin I also had to replace my 04's battery 3 months before lease end. However, having gotten almost 4 years out of the original, I felt it was pretty good especially considering Florida's heat. Your situation was probably also related to old age. I replaced it with the Diehard Gold for $99 at Sears. I know that someone else will enjoy it because I traded in the 04 for the 08 with Navi just last week.

My 04 Battery lasted just over 3 yrs. Acura will cover 25% but they wanted around $150 to replace it...it was still cheaper just doing it myself and buying a much better battery @ AutoZone. $90 for a battery with 200 more cold cranking amps.
And actually the OEM battery never died on me...was just getting old and tested @ 75% charge...i didn't want to chance it going into winter...though it was still running....

Well its going on 4 years since buying the 04' TL. and Im about to be on battery number two. I took it in for an oil change a few months back and they said that the battery had a low reading. Now as Im starting the vehicle, I can see the crank starting to drag a bit. Sucks, really. I dont have anything added to my car but a power inverter which stays off 99% of the time and an ipod interface. I did car audio for ten years, So I know about power consumption.

Bought my Tl on July 4th, 2004. My battery died a week before Xmas this past year. So I got about 3.5 yrs, which I thought was good. I didn't know about any warranty and I was going to the mall anyhow..so I just pulled into Sears and bought the Gold for $99 plus tax. My last battery on my 98 Accord Coupe lasted about 4 yrs.

Just got my 04 in november and the guy that had it before me had it replaced already. One of the first cold nights it took a little while to fire up, it's on and off. The thing that sucks is it's a new battery and not oem .

I have an 04' with about 50K miles and i just had to replace the battery about 2 weeks ago...it was struggling to start for a couple days, then i had the radio on for about 10 minutes without the car being on and that killed it...i think only spending $100 every 4 years is pretty good

mine was beginning to struggle when cold, and while i was the dealership getting other service done, they checked and replaced the battery under warranty.
mine is an 05 @ 53k miles.

Just put a new battery in my 05 TL. 54,000 km.. Ironically it was in the gargage on a very cold morning and was completely dead. My wifes 300m was sitting on the driveway and is a 2002 and she turned over effortlessly. After taking a close look at the battery in the TL it makes sense as it is pretty small compared to the Chryslers. Dealership changed it for 50% the cost of the battery plus labour, so it was $138.00 Considering it was just a battery I still have no complaints with the car after 2.5 years. Still have 40% of brake pads all around after 54,000 km. Thats unheard of for me lol

It sounds like even having Acura replacing the battery and giving you a credit, it's not worth it. I paid $99 plus tax at Sears which seems to be cheaper then the dealer prices with a credit.

I wonder why Acura had/has such stupid problems. I had my rack replaced like 4 times already and every time they replace it, its because from the storage facility its corroded or some other BS reason. I can go down a list from the crap they've replaced because of screw ups from HQ. It doesnt make sense to me.

One must remember, this "stuff" is massed produced and selected via the lowest bid. "Quantity" has far beaten "Quality" out of the American way.

My 04TL was purchased Dec of 03. Original battery still exceeding expectations.

I think your battery is fully depreciated. You should put a new one. I had to replace my 2007 TL at 21,000 miles due to dead cells. It was covered by warranty and the dealer ended up putting in 100-month battery. I think the dealer is charging American Honda $31 labor and $72 for the battery.

My 04 has a Delco battery - another American company like Johnson Control. Now go look and see where they actually assembled/manufactured the massed produced variety found as OEM etc..
The price of the OPTIMA batteries reflects the fact that they are not cheaply outsourced etc..
I'm not saying everything is not "Japanese or American in the TL or other like vehicle, just the fact that the parts that make up the whole don't all come from the "HQ's" / car manufacturer etc..
Cheers

I just picked up a 04 TL, the last owner told me he just replaced the battery a few months ago. Looks like this is something we'll need to keep a eye on.

I have no idea how everyones battery dies just out the blue. I still have my OEM Acura battery that came with the car. To makes matters worst i have 2 amps. 1 Alpahasonik which can give out 1400watts and another one pushing out 900watts. I do have a 1.5 farad capacitor

i think my battery has died, i have had the car for about 14 months, an 04. Its funny though, i had no problems with it. Once i left it at my mom's house inside of a garage when i went on deployment, it started acting up on her. I am trying to get her to replace the battery right now because i will not be be back for another month and a half. Right now i get to blame my mom on it because she had it in her possession when it started acting up, she knows i am kidding though (i hope)
