04 tl 5at nav $11,000??

looked at trading my TL at the dealer. 41k miles, clean, good tires and that's what they offered!
Any trade one or buy one recently 04, 05 - and what did you get or pay?
I know trading will get you the least, but don't want to mess w/ selling on my own.

I looked on area dealer's web sites and they wanted $20k to 23k for 04s and 05s w/ more miles or no nav. I can't believe they'd give me $11k and clear $10k+ on the deal! The paper shows others for 17 or so.

kbb says 11875 to 13975

Edmunds 16221 trade w/ the dealer retail of 19355 or 21194 certified

what do you guys think? I'm I expecting too much?

I just looked at this thread.

https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/used-tl-pricing-699123/

It just seems what they offered me is at the bottom end of the range

I traded in my 04 TL with 56k miles to a used car dealer for $16.2k back in early June of '08. I think you're expecting to much with 16k as a trade-in, you'll be hard pressed to get more than that as a private-sale.

did yours have nav?

I know 16k will be hard to get, but don't you agree $11k is too low?
What should I accept w/o getting ripped off, 12-14??

thanks

Of course they can only offer you $11k! How else are they supposed to make their $8k profit to resell the car at $19k???

I think you should be able to get 13k if you're shopping for the right vehicle that a dealership is looking to sell. My car was wdp, had navi, 18' a-spec rims and the a-spec bodykit (but I don't think the accessories factored into my price much). I bought an M3 from the dealer he wanted to move so maybe he gave me a slightly higher than average trade-in, but at the time I thought my trade-in was fair if not a little less than what I was hoping for (16.5k - 17k). But, it's a different market right now, a lot has happened from May till Dec and it's not suprising that dealers are offering so little. I really got low-balled on my M3 I'm looking to sell recently. I would only sell it privately, I know there's no chance of getting a good deal on a trade-in. Are you located in NY, I would like to see pics of your car if you would like to try to sell it privately.

I know that - that just seems like I'm really getting the .....

But u know as bad as it's supposed to be out there in this economy you'd think they would rather have part of something rather than all of nothing

I guess they just want it all

an '04 would definitely not have a remaining factory warranty. Unless he got it extended.

I was being sarcastic man, of course your car is worth a hell lot more than $11K. Seriously a dealer is happy if it makes just $500 off a deal. But it is a buyers market nowadays. Let $15k be your limit, don't settle for less than that. You could get more on the private market as long as your car is in perfect condition.

I would think in a private sale it would bring 14-16K depending on your area.

11k is a joke; low mileage and nav. Be patient, you'll do much better. I wouldn't think that 15-16k would be out of the realm of impossibility. Take a look at some of the Acura CPO that are in that range. Understanding that a dealer wants to make a profit, I'm seeing many out there for much more $. Good luck.

11K really is a joke. When they ask that much, literally just laugh in their face and ask them what their real offer is. They'll probably give you some 'presentation' on why it's really worth just that much and you can just leave at that point.

Because the new car market is so weak, used car prices have come down as well. The dealer may not be that interested in your car because that's another car they need to sell. Although, 11k is definitely low.

What car are you looking to buy? Before you buy is the time to use your leverage in getting a better price on the trade in. If they think you'll walk away, they'll likely give you a better price. I'd say 13k would be fair, although I doubt they'll go more than 12k.

You'll do better privately, but it can be a pain. Only you can determine what you're willing to take.

Another option is to stick with the '04. It's still a nice car. You could try to sell it privately but only if the price is right. Then use that money towards the new car.

sell it privately-

i bought an 04 a few weeks ago with 83k miles no nav but for $11500
kbb is mainly what these dealers look at and they dont even want to give that so yes basically your looking at that 11 to 13 range for a trade in. sux but that what happens when a new model comes out and thats how i was able to get my TL so cheap.

Wow $11K is way low. But in these times, if you think about it, if dealers can't sell cars, they're not going to pay alot for any trade in.

Back in june when I was lookin to trade in my Jeep Grand Cherokee, Carmax by far offered less than any of the other dealers I went to. Flow BMW of winston-salem offered the most. Just make sure to look around. Dont get stuck on that one typs s on the corner, look around untill you are comfortable.

Here's the manheim auction report on TL w/ Nav. Just to show they aren't worth as much as people think. Dealers take this more seriously than any online info because these are actual transactions for these car, not just listing out options and conjuring up a value. This is what a dealer can go to the auction and buy a 04' TL w/nav for.

11/11/08 BIG H Lease $10,200 36,774 Avg BLACK 6G 6 No
11/11/08 BIG H Lease $12,700 41,911 Above GREY 6G 6 Yes
11/25/08 FAAO Lease $12,800 42,251 Above BLUE 6G 6 Yes
11/20/08 SO CAL Lease $12,000 48,356 Avg BLACK 6G 6 Yes
11/20/08 CHICAGO Regular$13,200 55,247 Above WHITE 6G 6 Yes

11/11/08 FAAO Lease $10,600 64,403 Avg SILVER 6G 6 Yes
11/21/08 MANHEIM Lease $9,900 77,528 Avg ABYSS 6G 6 Yes

Yeah just as of recent every car on the market has dropped like a rock as far as resale value goes. It's always hard to get a gauge on what people get for trade in because we have ways of moving money around and showing a certain number when in all reality that money comes out of the gross of the car being sold. For instance we'll value a car at $10,000 to make the deal but the ACV(Actual Cash Value) is $9500 which would take $500 off the books just to make the deal. That's why auction transactions are a better guide because the only fluff involved in those transactions is the tranportation and auction fees. So actually the numbers I showed you guys are about $200 more than what the car actually sold for, the rest is fees.

wow 'Derk's K24' - that auction info and your post above was pretty interesting!

I worked my new car deal like this:

1- get best price 1st (email) w/o mentioning payment bs or if trade in or not (internet price and total drive out the door price)

2- then work them for the finance rate: - w/ my Credit Union approved rate in the ready - for when they say - X% is the best we can do. - I then I come back and w/ 'I dont think so'

3- work the trade in value

I was prepared to walk - if at any point I didn't get what I wanted.

If you separate all 3 points - it keeps them from looking like they are giving you a better price on the new car - when really they are giving you less for the trade.
I never told them I was going to trade for sure (or even what the trade was) until I got #s 1 and 2

Since I did better than those auction prices on the trade - Derk's K24 - I guess your saying the dealer really just ate even more off the price for the new car - again wow
thanks for info.

plus w/ the better the trade value - I saved even more $s in taxes on the new car - as taxes are figured on the car price - less what they give you for the trade.

I thought this as well, but after stopping by the dealer yesterday and looking at them I kinda like it.

If I bought one I would have the chrome part of the grill on the hood color matched.
