'04 TL to '08 TL Type S ! Wow...

Put this in the wrong spot earlier.
Wassup guys. After seeing the 2012 TL pics(meh) I decided that I have no interest in the 4th GEN TL, ever. I initially didnt like the TL-S when it came out(the red lights, the two tone seats, the rims)--but about two years ago everything that I disliked I learned to appreciate and love. (except the red lights--I still prefer the blue but not a game changer for me). I am coming from a base TL 6 speed and bought a silver/ebony manual shift TL-S.
I had to drive hours to get it but man was it worth it. This car is awesome and better than my base TL in every way. I do have a couple questions for you guys.
Am I entitled to a updated navigation DVD ? The salesman said I would get one but who knows, it wouldnt have stopped me from buying.

Shouldn't I be getting a free trial to XM radio free with the car ?

Is the stereo in the TL-S better than the one in the 04 TL ? Seems to be, or perhaps thats just wishful thinking on my behalf.

Some other impressions--
The NAV is way cool and super useful. I still need to learn how to talk to the car. The scren resolution kinda blows but much nicer than having a garmin.

Compared to my 04 manual...the center console compartment (the one under your elbow)seems smaller---is this car the same dimensions as the 04 TL? its not a negative just wondering.

I noticed you have to be a little more deliberate with your shifting otherwise it will pop back into neutral, this is prevalent in 3rd and 4th gear. My 04 never did this.

The seats are more bolstered than my 04 but also seem...*harder*--Not sure if this is just the drivers seat or all around--could be the prior owner was on the heavy side and maybe mushed the seat down a bit, Just wondering if everyone can feel the difference(those of you who went from TL to tl-s.

Overall though, great car, Im very happy with it.

you are not entitled a new navi dvd. you could ask. but like the rest of us, you're gonna have to buy the updates at 200 a pop.

free trial of xm? only if you bought the car new.
when I bought my 06 last year, it came with XM only because the previous owner had pre-paid. I got to enjoy it for a year. you can also call XM and request a free trial? or ask about their promotions.

I purchased the same Type-S recently and am very happy with it so far. Except for the fact the gas gauge falls towards E when I'm driving....may have something to do with the shift paddles  My last vehicle came with 3 months of XM, but I think the dealer just did the free trial from XM. This one did not have it, but I just transferred my service over. I forgot to even ask about the navi disk, but I don't think it's a big deal. How many new roads and gas stations could they have built since 08??

Congrats on your purchase. I love my ASM TL. Looks great with my tint. I'll show you if you'd like to see.

As far as the radio being better in Type S the answer is no but it IS better than 04-06 MY. Your radio now can play MP3/WMA discs, has Dolby 2 which makes stereo CD's play like they were recorded in 5.1, or you can switch to 2chl stereo sound (which i like when windows are down jamming). It definitely sounds stronger than 04-06 models but it's still 225Watts @ 2ohms.

3rd gear popping out is not natural, that could be a problem. Do you have warranty? Get the dealership to check it out. There are known problems for 3rd gear issues

Thanks guys. I just got back from driving the car around a bit---man I love this car. I so regret not getting it brand new but the one I got is super clean and its Acura certified. Car drives/looks like new. The previous owner really took nice care of it. I plan on tinting soon--going with 35% or 30% all around. I think this time I will be sure to either get ceramic or non metallic tint on rear window so my AM reception isnt shot. (like it was on my previous TL)
Really stupid spot for the Aux in, but I am glad it at least has it.
The Ebony interior looks much better in person--the silver on the seats is much darker than pictures show which I prefer. There is so much tech in the car, love it.
Oh should live traffic work in my car ? or is that a pay service ?

I got 3 mos xm for free, figured it was because it was CPO. Nav disc not necessarily the most recent one should come with it due to being CPO as well. Also you should get 2 keys when it's CPO

When you drive them back to back day in and day out you see they are both fun just like two hot sisters. I drive each about once a week. Both amazing cars, the 04 was revolutionary. The TL-S is tweaked up a notch. I needed another car, and looked at everything and came back to the TL. But, I would not feel the need to sell the TL just because I wanted the TL-S. The base goodness is there. I do really like the 2012 changes and as long as Acura makes manuals or equivalent they are viable to me.

Your right about the shifter. My wife never notices it. I'm going to try the GM fluid in the Spring.

Congrats on the Type S. Im one of the guys that thinks the Type S is absolutely worth it over the base model. But ive always been into the top of the line models mainly (and yes I have owned both base and Type S).
One thing about the interior lighting and that is obviously all just personal preference but going right from a 07 base nav to a 07 Type S they are both really cool looking at night but I do prefer the red. Something about it just looks soo cool and sets it apart from all the other TL's. What would be REALLY sweet is if you can control between blue and red interior lighting. With LED technology these days that actually could be easily done but unfortunately not really something you see in cars yet.

Im not sure if the stereo is better in the 07 and 08's since I have never owned one of the older ones, but its decent. Good quality but it does lack a little in the bass department. My 2000 Lexus ES300 actually has better sounding lows than my 07 TL did. Acura fixed that with the stereos in their 09+ cars. They sound amazing!!! not only that but they added a much improved nav screen that is practicaly HD. Man I wish there was a way to add all this newer stuff to the 3rd gens :-)

Anyway, congrats on the purchase your going to really like that thing!
