04 6MT TL vs. a few

Drove alot yesterday so I came up on a few people that wanted to boogy. First was a SL55 AMG. I am pretty sure you know the result of that one. It pulled away from me like I was sitting still. Rediculous. To make matters worse I dont even think he knew I was trying to stay with him.

Next was a guy in a RSX-type S. I see him come up fast so I down shift to 3rd. He comes up behind me and changes lanes fast (like most young punks do). I even waited until he was past me to floor it. Needless to say I smoked the hell out of him.

A few days ago I raced this guy in a heavily modded last gen (one before now) 4 door accord. I beat on him but it was ALOT faster than I thought. He even had HIDS. Cool guy. We went a few times with same results. We just shut it down each time as soon as I started pulling pretty good. He exited and we gave eachother a good

A few months ago I raced a WRX with some bolt ons. It was pretty much even but we came up on some traffic. I felt I really didnt max out my power band on that one so I have a feeling I would have beat on him pretty good. He gave me a before I exited.

I've beaten stock WRX's at the dragstrip, and from a roll they arent that fast (even the STi's from a highway roll arent world beaters).

Now get to the track and get some real numbers.

He said the last generation, so I would assume it was the J30A1 with 200 hp. They can be made pretty quick.

Nicely done, ludachrisvt.

thanks! yeah I was amazed he was that fast. The problem was that I think he had a MT so I dont think he had a J series motor since that gen didnt have a manual gearbox for the V6 motor. Please correct me if I am wrong. I probably am since I didnt TOTALLY shit on the guy. Just pulled like I was going to pass him during normal driving.

Right, the '98-'02 Accords weren't available with a stick with a V6. You could only get the manual transmission with the 4-banger.

I have seen a few of them around. People at work also say someone is running around with a Bently GT as well!! Its kinda wierd for this area. Its not the richest place in the country

If it was SL 500, not AMG..... my foot is down to floor.

I think I need M45 for my next car.. Power with Tech goodies.

I seriously have a hard time believing some of your stories, against a WRX at a light is no way you could have beaten him. WRX has one of the fastest launch due to All Wheel Drive system, now that's some FOS.

AWD's major advantage could also become its biggest disadvantage. The added amount of traction available could cause you to bog or destroy the clutch if you don't know how to launch right. Several of my friends drive modified AWD (Evolution, Evolution, Evolution, S4, STi) and they bog more often than not. And they are pretty damn decent drivers, too. Well, actually, the S4 gets sideways more often than bog.

Besides, on the streets, anything is possible. I once saw a video of a Sentra SE-R beating an LS1 WS6.

Hey, you're the JDM race expert. Why don't you chime in with your technical knowledge?

Ran a '06 TL 6MT this morning and i waxed his ass bad - i was really disappointed..

was the rsx-s you ran stock? are you stock? I'm putting down about 205hp (245 crank HP) and can slightly pull (pretty much even) on a s2k.

I'm running Hondata k-pro with Injen cai, dc sports race header and Comptech cat back on my '02 and she weights <2,800#

he only has 7k miles, and he told me what sounded like BS - he said the TL has a 6k rpm break-in rev. limiter for the first 20k miles. True or BS? maybe his foot was the problem? most rev are set for the first 600 miles not 6k?

205whp in a RSX will probably take most stock TL's, as they only make ~15-20whp more than that and weigh ~ 700lbs more.

And there is no real break-in procedure, per se. Manual states no WOT acceleration first 600 miles, or real hard braking.

Yeah I was disappointed in a full bolt on Rsx-s not even putting up a fight against me, in the Vette of course. Apples to Oranges, just like your Hondata'd Rsx-s against a TL. (Not to mention I'd still bet the 6MT traps near the same as you, so thank the driver)

Nice job making that little thing move though!

I had a silver RSX with all the mods you had for about 6 months before I went turbo. I had the comptech header though. I had about 212 whp and i would say that it was faster than my TL but by a huge amount. If you can launch that car properly you can run very good times with those mods.

Umm....I beg to differ. I beat WRX's all the time at the track. My friend has one with exhaust that I have raced many times with the same results(he loses). There was even a modded one that I raced that looked crazy and I thought for sure that I would lose-I even remembering hearing his blowoff valve as he was going through the gears as I slowly pulled in front of him. The whole track when crazy when I won that one. Yes the all wheel drive in those cars helps them with launch, but they really dont have that much power. If your talking about an STI though a TL has no chance.

BTW-don't underestimate what cars a TL can beat at the track. Anything can happen and the driver plays a big part in the race. I bet you don't think TL can beat a Camaro SS? A Mitsubishi 3000gt VR-4? New Gen Mustang GT? Modded s2000? Old School Mustang 5.0?

* well I have raced and beaten these plus many more.*

I do have a few mods-but nothing crazy..see my sig.

First off, total BS. There is no such thing as a break-in rev limiter for the first 20k miles. He just didn't know how to drive, and he was giving you excuses.

My TL-S is putting down somewhere in the neighborhood of 245-250 fwhp (a conservative guesstimate from the last dyno run plus mods since then) and I run dead even with my friend's S2000. He put down 197 rwhp. The car has suspension and other modifications, but the engine has been returned to factory spec, down to the factory airbox. Another friend's Type-R put down 187 fwhp and he runs slightly behind me. So yeah, your 205-fwhp RSX would wax stock or relatively stock TLs out there.

stock wrx's aren't that fast. they are pretty fast, but I am not impressed. I have slowly pulled on one on the highway a few times. srt4's are much faster.
