03 Maxima vs 9X Eclipse GS-T

I was out on the highway near my house doing a little tuning tonight. Just after logging a 3rd gear pull (30-95mph) and slowing back down to the speed limit I saw some HIDs coming up fast in my rear view from the last exit. They pulled up to my left and the passenger had his window rolled down. Inside I spotted a chrome fire extinguisher and a boatload of bright blue gauges. It was also equipped with a body kit (actually painted!) and an impressively large wing. The passenger yelled something about my "fake flame thrower" (i'm guessing i threw some flames when I let off at the top of 3rd) and said "let's go." The whole time they were next to me, the driver was building boost then letting off so I could hear his BOV.

I considered it for a few moments then slowed to 60, down shifted to 3rd and motioned for him to honk it off.

When we hit it, I pulled an instant fender or so on him while he spooled then slowly continued to creep. By the top of 4th (125ish mph) I had a solid car on him and shut down making sure he saw my brake lights. As expected, he stayed on it and blew past me. He didn't slow down and disappeared over the next hill while I took the next exit to look at my logs and continue tuning.

I'm not sure on his mods but he had a loud intake/BOV and full exhaust. My guess is most of the money went into looks instead of go fast if I was able to pull him. It was still pretty fast, without him having a passenger it would have been close to even and my car is probably good for a 108-109 trap as it stands.

There's no street racing talk allowed on the Maxima forums so I figured I'd post it here.

I love the cocky passengers that think their boy's car will smoke all and they lose lol. Good kill. Most likely had an upgraded turbo or a LOT of mods on the stock turbo considering you say you trap 108+.

I really wish you lived closer....

108-109 is a guess. My last best trap was 107.5 with my stock IM, base ECU timing, and 6700 RPM rev limiter.

I now also have a Kinetix IM + porting, 6-9 degree timing advance throughout the whole powerband, and 7200RPM limiter with a better tune in general. I will have no idea what actual gains are until I install a new clutch so I can launch and powershift without it slipping and hit the track again.

Haha, I've seen that eclipse around a few times hanging with the local ricer gang in the burger king parking lot. They always rev at me but none had tried to race yet until tonight. I bet they're all quite curious what's actually done to my car. I sometimes drive by them with open y-pipe and slicks and purged nitrous all over them one night, too (had a dual purge coming out of the front grill) while they were standing around in my way. I'm sure he'll go back telling them how he smoked me, though.

Slight digression here: My son wants to know some more specifics about your setup...moreso re: your 107 mph trap. He has an 05 Altima 3.5SE 5MT which is probably capable of 13.8 sec and ~ 102 mph once he gets his tire and clutch situation straightened out (and given his current mod setup). His quickest 1/4 mile time is 14.158 sec and his fastest trap is 100.8 mph. PM me when you get the chance. Thanks.

nice kill on the GS-T. I don't know why Maxima. o r g decided to delete their Racing discussion forums. People were very cordial in there. Didn't seem like it was out of control.

Around 4500 rpms if I remember correctly. Pretty perfect for a roll race.

I was just asking cuz at 60mph, the TL is just starting 3rd gear so it would be a horrible race lol 40-45mph is a nice roll race for a TL.

I see. Well with my current rev limiter, I get to 41 in first, 67 in 2nd, 95 in 3rd and about 125 in 4th.

60 in 3rd is a bit low for me (I normally shift into 3rd at 5200-5300 rpms) but I'm still deep in my power band above 4000 so it works out fine.

Yeah we have a pretty decent aftermarket for maxima-specific stuff and I get the great benefit of the 350Z/G35 internals (cams, heads, stroker kits, pistons/rods, etc) aftermarket.

When is that? You said you are doing a slight build soon and that won't be any fair! Lol. I plan on getting a better Jpipe, bigger exhaust, cams, and a tune. But who knows when all that will happen..

Either way a friendly run is always cool with me.

I'll just have a new clutch and nitrous stuff by then. We can run N/A.

I'm not too certain why they got rid of that subforum. But, I do know from moderating this subforum (as well my previous moderation stint @ Superhonda) that racing discussions can easily get out of hand. Which is why I monitor the "goings ons" here carefully.

There was some talk of "street racing on forums" on the news at some point and they simply deleted the sub forum and banned all talk of street racing overall.

I agree that these discussions can get out of hand. People seem to be more mature on this site as well as Maxima . O R G. vs the RSX site racing discussion site.
