Those maximas manual are pretty fast...

But im pretty sure you would win if your TL-S would be manual.

That pretty much depends on the Maxima's mod levels.

No, me and my brother havent gone to any meets yet since we both bought our cars at the same time (beggining of winter 09'). and not sure if ur regarding to me "Drpepper" but my car is a 6 speed but not a type-s. but so far my TL pulls on my bro's maxima by a car and half time after time, but will see if his new mod helps. Our cars are pretty much identical in speed but i know mod for mod the maxima will pull away. And if your curious it's an 2003 maxima se fully loaded 6 speed.

Have you read through the thread? Seen the times, the mods...ect- please inform yourself man- if this quote was to me- bro, it wouldnt have mattered if I would have been a 6 speed or not. He still would have pulled hard, with the mods he has

I'm curious to see a TL/Accord 6MT with the same mods and timing advance (which someone special is working on not me obv lol) go to the track. I'd think the results would be very similar. Bolt on for bolt on they are very close in performance.

Especially since I'm pretty sure the Max has LSD, which my Accord does not, but you TL's do

A TL with I/E/PCDs and ported lower runners ran 13.39 @103.5. While the trap is not as good, that was without a tune and timing advance. I think with a tune he should be in the 105 trap range, and timing advance who knows?? It should be close.

Who would've thought either of the family 4 doors (and 'family coupe) would be that quick!

Acutally not every max comes with LSD and my brother doesn't have it but my TL does lol. but anyways his mods are intake, vias block-off plate, IM Spacer, frankencar cat-back exhaust, short throw shifter, and now he did his SSIM with an intake port and polish. So were gonna run it again and see where he's at. AND My mod's are on my sig. minus my the test pipe (i put the stock back on for now).

Yea i agrree with you "sonnick" that bolt on for bolt on the max. and TL are close but ima give the the max the upper hand espically that the fastest all motor 5.5 gen. Max. ran a 12.5 in the 1/4 and yet to see a 6mt TL break 12's all motor, but i hope that will change soon with a ECU crack lol raise the RPM limiter and so far my brother and i are trying to do equal mods at the same time to test the diffrences. It's pretty fun lol.

In terms of mod for mod, I still don't think the TL/accord is quite there. Weight makes for a decent advantage, and you have to remember that the VQ35DE is a DOHC with variable cam timing which makes things a little more interesting once you swap in aftermarket cams.

Honestly though, who knows for sure. I'm still waiting for a 6-speed type S in the area to meet me at the track or somewhere around town and teach me a lesson

Hoping to come close to matching that record sometime in the next couple of months...

Here's a quick vid I made when I had my cutout open for some tuning getting ready for track days. The ugly blue car in the background is my FC RX-7 that will be getting a LS1

Have him get headers (OBX cheapest decent ones), a 3" or 2.5" (10-15hp less) exhaust, and a TS tune, then see how he fares!!

Yea hes gonna do it soon prolly going with cattman headers, y-pipe, to a 3inch cut-out but like i said were doing mods at the same time so i'm gonna get precats, j-pipe, and a cut-out as well. So we can keep track on our mods to see where he starts to pull away lol. That would be pretty sweet if u break or tie the record. What headers are u running on ur max??

I run cattman headers, myself. Was the best spent money out of any mod on this car!

IMO, he will start pulling away from you after the headers/Y + cutout considering he at least tunes A/F with a AFC.

Damn, that sounds good.

The VQ35 being DOHC is definitely a big help. More top end, and yea like you said aftermarket cams is where the fun really starts to show.

No one knows for sure until the TL/Accord can get some tuning methods going. Paul has been doing a lot of amazing work for us with the J series and hopefully in a couple months we will see some NA potential

I'd like to get to the track ASAP, hopefully within the next 2 weeks. Honestly, I'm most concerned about my trap speed. If I 60' a 2.2 again I'll be mad, but if I trap 104 I'll fair lol.

Good luck breaking that NA record, looks as if you're pretty close!

Yeah, we'll see on the record breaking. I may just rest content with being the 3rd fastest N/A 5.5 gen on the forums... All the problems I was having shifting yesterday at the local 1/8th mile, compounded with the last 2 years of intermittently having the same issue, have made me want to stop wasting money taking this car to the track and just finish up my project car... lol

What do you think of the shifter in the maxima vs your TL? Assuming you've driven each other's cars.

In terms of the shifter my brother and i both agree that the shifter feel is much better on my TL and has a more solid feel to it. BUt that changed quickly cause my brother did his own short throw shifter mod which made the throws much better and he also cut the shifter rod so it sits lower which was bothering him for a while cause the maxima's shifter sit's so high lol. Now he's gonna change the bushings soon. BUt the clutch feel is a totally diff. story my brother hates my TL's clutch feel cause it grabs so high compared to his maxima i also dont like it but got used to it.

Yeah I have the home brew STS, but normally go with the stock throw... Have trouble with gear lockout when I'm WOT shifting and it's worse with the STS on.

I bet he traps 99-101 or so his first time without a tune and with cutout open, depending on skill. If he's good at WOT shifting, that could easily be 103-104 though.

I pulled mid/high 14s @95-97ish my first time at the track stock. 4-5 track visits later with just an intake and I was getting 14.0s@100. Just go as often as you can and get practice in with that car. You'll be there one night where they stay open a little late and it gets down to 40ish and you get that one run you've been waiting for. It's not that hard with an auto, but with the manual cars you gotta get a lot of practice in.

I can fluctuate 2mph just in shift speed, as much as 3-4mph with/without power shifting. If you watch JayPee's video inside the car, you see how he's WOT shifting and is extremely fast. I'm having issues with my transmission blocking me out of gear when I try to shift that fast

Yea when my brother went he only had a SRI in his max and was trapping around 96mph and my best pull on my stock TL was a 98mph with a 2.9 60' lol i have a old thread on it here that i posted a couple months back about my first time at track, but since then my brother and i never had a chance to go back to track cause of the winter months but were gonna go pretty soon and since then we can drive our car's much better since it was also our first manual cars. but that sux that your car lock's out under quick shifting. does it happen often?

Still haven't figured out what causes it, but sometimes it isn't an issue, other times it's very bad... Dunno. There are plenty of people who complain of the same thing on the forums, though.

oh got you. did you try putting in some GM Syncromesh? When my brother got his max the gears wear a little notchy if that makes sense but ever since he put that syncromesh in, it's been smooth so far.

I avoided trying it after doing a lot of research. Too many horror stories from people who used it in GL-4 only transmissions like mine. I've got my shifting pretty much back under control, though.

This is a vid with the new 3" Y-pipe and 3" cattman catback

Thanks, but believe it or not there is a good deal of rasp right now... The resonator that came on this catback just isn't enough. Going to sell that part of the B-pipe then get a big 26"x5" core magnaflow resonator and replace it if I stick with the 3" Y-pipe. There wasn't any rasp with this catback and 2.5" Y-pipe.

Yep everybody I know who tracks their 5.5 gen ends up getting a STS then taking it back out. They also break their shifter bracket and end up replacing it with the "new" one, which also breaks but less commonly. I keep an extra one on standby, lol.

Ahh I believe it about the rasp. Catless tends to do that as I know all too well

I'm going to be changing to a 3" exhaust by the end of the month (April) I'm hoping and am gonna have 1 36" Magnaflow and another either smaller Mag or AR30. I hope to drastically diminish if not eliminate the rasp completely...and gain some power
