02 TL-S vs 06 Charger SXT
man is my blood pumping right now. I think I've just had the best race of my life.
Ok, so here's how it went down:
I was driving on my way home from work on Queens Blvd, and saw a really nice looking Charger a couple of blocks ahead. So I wanted to check it out, and sped up to catch up to him. We finally cought a light together, and I noticed the 3.5L emblem on his side fender, I'm not sure if it said "Hemi" below it.
So I put my car into neutral, held the brakes, and revved my engine a little to tease him. And what do you know, he does the same, but he seriously revs his engine, so I then unleash the power of VTEC and roar my engine maaad loud, and the light turns green. I quickly switch to D5, and burn out, and instantly get ahead of him. I'm pretty sure he wasn't ready, but as soon as I got ahead of him by like 2 car lengths, I heard his engine roar, and he quickly got behind me.
We then got into some traffic, and I knew that this guy wanted to play, and I also wanted to see what my car was capable of, so I got behind him and followed him till we got onto a more clear road.
After about 5 mins of driving, we ended up on a 2 lane road that was really long and had no traffic lights or anything for like the next half mile. We both cought a red light, and the guiy rolls down his window, and so do I. Here's how it went:
Charger: yo, you wanna race?
Me: Sure, why not..., are you stock or moded?
Charger: all stock
Me: when the light turns green, we go
We both rolled up our windows, and I noticed he had a passenger sitting next to him who was laughing.
I proceded to turn off VSA, switched to SS mode, and waited for the green light. At this time I was feeling kinda nervous and shit since I never used SS in a race from a digg.
Anyways, light turns green, and I mess up a little on my launch, and he pulls a car length on me. (this was all cause of the stupid SS shifting automatically into 2nd)
I'm floorin it, and am just about to redline in 2nd, and noticed how he was a car length ahead of me, so I shift into 3rd. I instantly start pulling ahead of him, and by the time I was at 5k rpm, I had half a car length on him. I couldn't wait any longer, and shifted into 4th at about 5,500 rpm but he started to pull head of me very quickly. We were already going about ~90-100 mph, and there were lots of curves in the road, so I guess I kinda chickened out, and slowed down, but he flew by me.
We then cought another light together, and both rolled down our windows, and here's what happened:
Charger: good shit man, good race
Me: same to you, you got a powerful beast there, what you packin under the hood?
Charger: 340 HP, and you?
Me: 260 HP
Charger: nice, you almost had me there in the beginning when you passed me
Me: alomst cause I didn't shift properly, but beware next time
Charger: aight man, good shit, see you around
Me: see you around too
And we both went our separate ways. It was the best race I've ever had, and I sre as hell would go against this guy again.
Anyways, I kinda thought that I won the race since I pulled ahead of him in the beginning... but when do you actually declare victory over your oponnent?

hmmm..the SXT model only has 250hp and 250lb/ft......and 0-60 should in 7.4s.
http://car-reviews.automobile.com/Do...ad-test/1370/1
But if that guy said he had 340hp...then that means it's a hemi. I think that Charger guy didn't know what he was talking about, lol!
Anyways, nice run! If you had a better launch, you would've whoop his butt!

wow, I was wondering why I was able to keep up with him so nicely
But I learned from my mistake, now I just gotta practice a bit more on SS mode. If I could master that, then I'll be sure to smoke that guy the next time I see him.
Oh and one more thing, I was pretty sure the guy was talkin out of his ass when he told me he had 340 HP, cause he only had 1 exhaust tip in the back, and I'm pretty sure the HEMI version has dual exhaust.

I think you can declare victory over your opponent when you are ahead and still pulling to a certain mph. Also when your opponent realizes he/she cannot overtake you and lets off the gas.
So nice race, and no way that guy had 340hp.

yea those "3.5L HIGH OUTPUT" Chargers are funny...they seem to think they have HEMI's in em...Even tho the ones with the hemi's arent too fast either...only charger that ever took me down was the SRT8 those things are fast wit 400+ HP...Good race tho..way to show him whos boss and by the way when in SS mode from a digg if u floor it thru 1st it will redline then shift to 2nd

I knew right away that the guy was talkin outta his ass about having 340 HP, he just didn't wanna feel embarassed...
Anyways, I gotta get some more practice with SS mode, especailly launcing from a dead stop.
So basically do you guys think this was a drivers race?

Acura superiority triumphs...way to go!
Now the father in me says, "Son...street racing is a BIG NO-NO..." One slip-up & you your life could take a tail-spin. See if they're any local tracks in your area where you can race to your heart's content.
The car you raced was not a Charger SXT, but an RT...they're all V8 hemi-head engines. I drive both an '06 TL & a Dodge Charger SXT (3.5L, 250 hp V6)...the Dodge is a company provided car.
The 0-60 specs for the Charger models is:
SXT - V6 0-60 in ~ 7.9 sec
RT - 340 hp V8 0-60 in ~ 6.0 sec
SRT8 - 425 hp V8 0-60 in ~ 5.1 sec
I've seen the 340 hp RT's launch from standing starts, and the car should be 'capable' of handily taking a Gen 2 Type S. The Charger has gobs of low end torque. The TL S should have a chance to gain some back, but IMO, you'd have to be running well over 100 to do it. BTW, Chargers are over-priced, have marginal brakes, handle lousy, and compared to Honda build quality, Dodges basically stink. Dodge make $$ off that model on middle-aged guys like me who want to relive the glory days of the 1970s with big block pushrod V8s.
Also, to give more perspective on the acceleration of Dodge Chargers vs. Honda products, my wife drives an '00 Accord V6 w. CAI/Exhaust (~ 215 hp). Specs say it should run 0-60 in the mid-7's. And it does feel just a tad bit quicker than my V6 charger, which weighs 400 lbs more.

Say, whenever I'm on the road in the Charger SXT company vehicle, RT models are always hot to race me...knowing just how much faster they are. Of course I never oblige, but all the time at fresh green lights I get to watch 340 hp RTs smoke my 250 hp SXT. My only consolation is that I laugh to myself realizing the company's paying for my gas, but the guy that took off on me just spent $.50 of overpriced California 91 premium in that little display of speed. Bet it gets to $4 / gallon out West by summer.

whoa, and if I remember correctly, with those mods on ur TL-S, you are making about 300hp (not whp) only, and you were still able to at least keep up with a SRT8, not bad! I guess those things are really really heavy. And yea, they are just old MB E-class...why not just buy an actual older generation E-Class instead?

yea its a lil more than 300 at the crank...these wack ass auto trannys the TLS's hav take away alot of power but its cool...when i get my funds together ima get that 6MT conversion and show these American CAr Enthusiasts what Acura/Hondas really do
