*feedback* newly painted engine

Hey guys. just finished painting my engine shrouds. would love to hear some feedback...

honestly.. i dont think i like it. i should have only done the main engine shroud and left the others black.

i think all the marks on it are dirt from my hands.... i'm kind of second guessing the whole job (or atleast the color)

Are the pieces around the motor still wet?

I think around the engine looks okay but yea, I agree that the whole engine bay is too much silver.

eh. i tried! lol

i thought the silver would go nicely with the my silver CAI and the grille.

i think its gonna go to a glossy black, or ill just take those things off. the main engine one looks really good IMO. i wanted to go for a blue or red, but my CAI was silver... so i didnt wanna look like a box of crayola's

i think that it is more the sudden concentration of silver in one area that takes away from it you have all that black around it then a bunch of silver together i think it would look better if you left the engine cover silver to match the cai and the rest went a black to match the rest of the car. of course i would do a little photoshoping first before doing all that kind of work.

I don't know why people have this thing with painting their engine bay covers...Just leave them black. I'm sure it looks nice if you have a few things accented in a different color IE the valve cover, but doing the whole thing just brings it out too much.

I think it was a good idea but it doesn't look so good once it's actually done. I would try using acetone to get it off...it looks much better stock.

Just the engine cover silver and the rest black, but maybe day pics would help to make a better decision too.

What about going back to 100% glossy black (NBP) like you said, but then adding some sliver pinstripes or something to that effect? I'm not sure if you're interested in doing that kind of detail, but that might be pretty slick.

you can always purchase new covers. if you check acuraoemparts.com they are real cheap. like.... $4 for one side, 6 for the other. the bulkhead (radiator) was like 16.... and the main engine was around $20~.

I looked at it again today in the sunlight, and it actually looks really good. EXCEPT, the front bulkhead, when the hood is closed you can see some silver shining through the crack between the hood and fenders.

So i made my final choice, and here it is. The main engine cover will stay silver, and i am going to air brush either "Blackura" or " Total Luxury onto it.

All the sides and bulkheads will be painted a high gloss NBP. I would have done the engine cover red, but my intake is silver (should have bought red) might match real nice with the Rotoras im gonna get.

rodneyc77, your right, my silver one is ALREADY dirty. 12 hours old!!

thanks for the feedback. I will post my final pics when i am done.

Look pretty nice. I hope it doesnt flake off as if there's going to be heat built up on the engine bay. But ya....look nice since your car is black.

i used the Duplicolor heat resistant paint. and like i said, i openen the hood in sunlight and it looked pretty good, but i am still going to paint everything black. a nice shiny glossy black instead of the dull greyish black of stock look. I will leave the main engine cover silver, and do some kind of monogram...

im guessing i should use a stencil, and paint it? a decal would be really stupid to put under the hood/on the engine due to heat issues?

Hey bud... I think it looks fine .. just needs a few touches .. don't listen to them .. its your car .. they didn't like mine either ..

Here is a pix of how I added a couple touches to the engine cover ... BTW .. red looks good with the silver intake.

Decals will hold up under the hood and the paint if the surface prep was done won't flake but you do need to watch you don't bend the pieces to much when removing them because there is no flex agent in the paint.
