In my experience officers will usually file a response with the written declaration.

So I got a speeding ticket for going 48 in a 30. I'm not gonna be a douche and say I wasn't speeding, however I really don't think I was going 48. I accelerated to maybe a little over 40. Still speeding, of course. I'm not going to go to court, just mail the ticket (can't miss work to go to court at 10 AM for a speeding ticket..) so should I just plead No Contest? And don't laugh at me for this one, but what would necessitate a suspended license? Consecutive tickets? Or is it possible to get a suspended license on your first ticket?

Sorry for the noobish question. My first speeding ticket! Woo....

^^^btw they also ask that I submit a written explanation of the violations. Do I just write "I was going 48 in a 30 on such-and-such road at 3:45 PM" ? or do they kind of want you to somehow say that you're regretting it?

I can't remember Oregon law exactly, but...

You won't lose your license, or get it suspended. I'm guessing on this (I only did DUII work in Oregon) but if they want a statement they probably mean you saying "I was driving on a public road and exceeding the posted speed" or something like that - but if you do no contest then you aren't admitting fault so just make it a neutral statement.

Ahh, alright. Even though my speeding was semi-just (sped up since I was changing lanes and someone was coming up in the left lane pretty quickly) I didn't really feel like giving them any sort of excuse or reason for it would be worth it.

Thanks for the info!

It's never legal to speed.. but I would say you were going with the flow of traffic in order to avoid creating a dangerous situation.

Vic, I am in your same shoes. What eventually happened?

Vic,

I am in the same boat. I got caught travelling 92mph on a 55mph in Fort Washington/Route 309.

My case was more of a medical emergency. There was no other cars on the road near me and my wife is currently in her 5th month of pregnancy. She was having terrible morning sickness and was about to fade out so I had to hurry home. This was my first child so I did not know what to expect. This led me to panic and the natural reaction was to speed up and hurry home to call the doctors office.

Now I tried to explain all of this to the Police officer and he did not want to hear it. Got a ticket ($203.50) for travelling 37mph over the speed limit.

This is my first traffic ticket ever! and I have been driving since 2001.

I went home, filled out the ticket and plead guilty. Just yesterday I got a letter in the mail from Penn DOT informing me of 5 points that I received. They also notified me of a hearing that will be scheduled in the near future. The hearing is supposed to be at a local DMV (Norristown, in my case). Pretty much a supervisor is supposed to go over my driving history (which is clean) then decide wether to apply more sanctions to the fine that I already received from the police officer. The worst case scenario here is that you will lose your license for 15 days IF the location you were speeding is an active work zone.

At this point, I decided to contact a lawyer (Michael F Dunn, Glenside PA) to fight the ticket. The lawyer told me that I have 30 days to appeal my guilty plea and fight the ticket. The over all cost would be about $725.00 in court cost and lawyer fees. He said that most of the time, they may give a reduced charge or, if the cop doesn't show up for the hearing, they may entirely drop the case.

As far as insurance is concerned, your insurance MAY look at your history every time you renew. So you may not see an immediate increase in your insurance rates but you may see it the next time you renew OR if you change insurance companies.

Also get a GOOD radar detector. I went a head and bought the Beltronics STI Driver (~$499). It is a stealth radar that cannot be detected with Spectre or other RDDs (Radar Detector Detector).

Total cost so far that I anticipating for this major screw up in my life:

Fine: $203.5
Detector: $499.00
Lawyer Fees: $650.00
Court Cost: $75.00
TOTAL : $1427.00 WASTED!

not to mention about the insurance that may go up.

This is a very expensive life lesson for me. With that said, I will never speed again for any reasons (emergency in my case).

John

P.S. If you want to discuss this more, please PM me. or email me.

those are some heavy points your gonna get.. go out and get yourself a lawyer, at least you will get the points removed and just pay the fine. i was going 100 in a 55 on 95N. the lawyer was around 300$, the fine was around 250$. i didn't get any points but had to pay the fine. i think i was at risk of loosing my license if i just paid the fine.

Video Monitor=ticket

27602(a) Operation of motor vehicle containing unauthorized
video screen or TV monitor within view of driver. California Vehicle Code

I have a Hacked Navi and while pulling away from the curb navi is loading up. Local cop pulled me over and writes me a ticket while peaching to me about the safety and distraction this can cause...WTF! Although I do have a DVD player installed, but I was not watching it at that time. Now I received the notices to appear (court) and a bail amount for $202.00

I will fight this ticket because I was not watching movies. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated.....

Show up with pictures of the unit doing its warm up stuff - then tell them that is what the police officer saw when he issued the ticket.

Good thing my CTS-V has a hidden navi screen. This ticket is BS, I agree with videoing the startup and defending yourself vigorously.

This could happen to any of us with navis. My RL's navi screen was plainly visible and would have attracted unwanted attention from revenuers.

I could have debated with the officer on this, but he was hell bent on lecturing me on his limited knowledge on the TL. It was late 1:15 am and I just wanted to go home.

I sort of blamed myself for not fully explaining to him about his incorrectness, but shit, he was too busy trying to be a COP instead of a person.

I was stopped in my mom's old TL that had navigation (stopped for something else) and the dude talked to me for about 15 minutes asking what the navigation could do, etc. and how easy it was to use. I wonder how long this law has been around

Let's look at this for a moment.....dvd monitors movies displaying (visual & audio) while driving. Navigation System displaying (visual & audio) while driving.

Prehap someone should challenge this code because it is truly flawed or out dated.

Take a video of the navigation system starting, as well attach a letter from a dealer indicating that a splash screen displays for X amount of time when the car starts. Be sure to include that this programming is used across the united states and was approved by the federal government in order to sell the vehicle in the United States of America.

Kind of amazing you get nailed for this yet I see cops driving 65 mph down the freeway poking away at that little laptop they got attached to the dashboard. Fight it.

This would piss me the fuck off because I would have to take time out of my day to go down to the courtroom to fight this, not to mention put miles on my car, just because the cop does not understand navigation systems.

There needs to be more accountability in the country.

I am sure this is only the view of a few officers who is out to make their tickets quotas, but to lectured you while handing you the tickets like you are some irresponsible teenager. I will fight this ticket and hope that I have a Judge who own a car with a modern Navigation System......

Thanks guys for your inputs. And thank you CSMEANCE for your suggestion.

Alright, I need some help.

I just received a parking ticket in front of my work building. Just had a lunch with my gf, she was dropping me off at my work, but I was driving her car. So, when we had arrived at my building, we both got out of the car. Right as we got out, these two parking enforcement officers came by and told us to move the car, so I politely told them alright. As my gf came to the driver side to get in to leave, these dudes come out of the car and said, "oh it's too late now, haha". and gave us a $80 parking ticket.

fucking gay mother fuckers

The ticket states that the vehicle was stopped at the red zone UNATTENDED.

What can I do with this? How should I dispute this? I researched and found that I can dispute the ticket by going to the parking bureau office in downtown LA. Did anyone in LA area try to fight a parking ticket? Is it possible to get it cancelled?

God, I'm pissed.

That really fucking sucks. Parking tickets are a pain in the ass to deal with but it is probably worth writing a letter, having them deny your claim, and then showing up in court and explaining everything to the judge

I think he said his navi is hacked right? Is it the same startup screen that they all have? Mine just kind of pops on with the nag screen, no video.

Yeah, it fucking sucks.... I mean I usually don't complaint about traffic tickets because I know that going 26 mph in a 25 mph zone stilll is an illegal practice, i guess. that's why i hate those low life losers who just complaint about every little traffic ticket they receive.

But not this bs ticket. I did already write a letter at work. AND, i remembered that he said it was a NO STOPPING zone, however, I just went out and checked to see if there's a sign. Guess what? No sign at all on that street.

Basically, he wrote me a ticket saying I stopped at no stopping zone AND the car was unattended when i was there with my gf.

I'm going to take a picture of the street and mail it out to the parking bureau along with my letter.. I wrote a letter in a very polite manner so... hopefully it will get dropped.

whatever. wish me luck guys.

The only time I have beaten a parking ticket without having to show up in front of a judge or administrator was when I pointed out the officer didn't sign the ticket. Every other time I either submitted pictures or other evidence to show that the guy was wrong I always had to go down and ask the dude a million questions before the judge realized he was full of crap

.....that's right Hacked Navi, but no animation, just the still wallpaper. I guessed he pulled up behind me as it was loading. Again I wish I had explained and showned him what he thought was not a video being displayed. I have a court date (7-21-09)
