Lots of issues with my rlx
hello all, my rlx is 7 months old and has/had the following problems:
-Mildew/mold smell when you start the car for 10 seconds
-Rusted lug nuts
-A grinding sound on the right side of the car when going about 5/mph
-a squeaking when the car is turned on and the steering wheel is moving
-the blind spot not working when it's extremly hot-error comes up.
The dealer is trying to fix issues as they occur. I'm bringing back in next week.
Anyone else have any of theses problems?

The LDW/LKAS will not work if camera gets too hot - maybe hte same with BSI. Cools down within minutes of driving and begins to work again. The mold/mildew smell most likely is caused by AC not expelling the liquid generated (the drips from underneath) - a common fix is trun off AC 5 minutes before reaching destination to dry out evap pan. You could try using Lysol, turn on AC full force (non-recurculatory) and spray Lysol into the vents at the base of the windshield - a pretty common issue with any car AC system. Your grinding noise may be a stuck brake caliper. I recently had my RLX in for PAWS actuator replacement and electronic parking brake replacement. The brake would squeak when engaged and I just asked for lubrication - they chose to repalce it instead.

Two possible reasons come to mind. 1) ILX and RDX are using the older system, and it's possible it was designed with in mind this from the start. 2) Maybe they are waiting for CarPlay for the new dual screen cars (MDX, RLX, TLX)?
I dont know, I was told it's not available and customer care " understands my frustration"
Hey,
Sorry your having all of these problems with you RLX. I feel your frustration, with my 2011 Acura RL Advance, I have a few problems of my own.
-GPS antenna fin completely fell of car(not covered by warranty BS cause I paid $1200 for extended warranty), never happened on my 05 RL(bought new)
-Genuine Gray Dashboard wood, has faded green, need to ask dealer to replace this, the wood is defective and should be covered by warranty(not sure however)
-Backup Sensors have stopped working all together.(covered by warranty,)

I had the mildew smell when I first had the car but it's since gone away. the grinding issue is fixed by a TSB that your service center can perform on the car.
My suggestion is: go to the link in this forum for all the listed TSB's. Print them out and take them to your dealer on your next visit and make sure they perform all of the applicable ones to your VIN and build number. I would also ask them to validate that the suspension recall fix was performed on your car. This is a pretty important one that has the potential to effect the safety of the vehicle.
Good luck and despite the small hiccups you are having, I trust you are going to find it's an amazing car.

Only had my car ~3 weeks but so far have experienced none of those issues *knocks on wood*. Sorry to hear about your troubles & I hope they get resolved. Thanks for the post - now I know what to look for before my 4 year warranty ends.
So far, the only defect I have detected is that my passenger side mirror makes a lot more noise than the driver side when folding. Other than that, all the other annoying quirks are things that can changed in settings - like that woman saying "hang up" every time I make a call.

Have never had this problem before with countless cars over the years. Just one of the pitfalls of buying used, I guess. Car only had 3K mi when I bought it, but with over a year in service as a dealer car prior. Had a lot of opportunities to grow copious mildew during that time apparently.
If it weren't for the A/C odor, this would easily be the sweetest ride that ever graced my stable. Gonna keep trying to fix it, though.
Update. The dealer is going to replace steering column because of the noise. They need to take apart the air conditioning box to try to get rid of the smell. The grinding noises are from the actuators they believe. They have seen a few of these. However the replacements are on back order. They will replace all the lug nuts. The dealer is really trying to fix issues. It's just frustrating. When I got home last night and shut the car off, it made another funky noise. Luckily I captured and sent to dealer. Waiting on him to review.
