Cool LKAS being stupid

The LKAS in my car is stupid. I am comparing this to the TLX. In the RLX, LKAS will drift to the right side of the lane, barely cross over the stripe then over correct to the left and do the same thing on the left side. It won't handle much of a curve either.

The LKAS in the TLX I came from kept the car fairly centered and didn't drift over the stripes. It also handled some decent curves (nothing tight or hairpin).

Is this normal on the RLX or is, as I suspect, something is awry?

TSK. TSK.. A '16 model with older tech than the '15? It wouldn't surprise me

Thanks, I didn't intend on changing cars YET AGAIN! This crap started with bad luck I was having with the 4G! I'd have been better off taking that car to an exorcist!

Hi Stew4HD,

This is not normal, at least for me it works as in the TLX and MDX. One thought is to check the Road Departure Mitigation Setting is NOT set to wide? I say this because the LKAS and RDM is integrated on the 2016 RLX (Acurawatch), and it was not available on the 2014s-2015s RLX. Try to turn RDM to warning only, and see if it makes a difference. It may also need to be re-calibrated, because it was not set correctly from the factory.
Sorry i can't help more......

I am pretty certain that the 2016 has the same tech (Acurawatch) as the 2015-2016 TLX and the 2016 MDX.

My LKAS works okay, but I have to admit that this is the first car that I've owned with LKAS. My previous car was a 6-6 4G TL, so of course a lot of these systems weren't available with the clutch.

I have noticed that it is dangerous to rely on LKAS with sharper curves and at higher speeds.

For me, the combination of LKAS + ACC is a huge stress reliever, allowing me to make longer trips without stopping and allowing me to arrive at destinations hours away feeling well. And then I feel a lot better getting back to the country at night, even if I've had to fight traffic...because the car's doing most of the traffic fighting.

The 5G RLX, remember, was supposed to be released before it was. As two years slipped by without being able to release it, the electronic world moved on to another generation.

So, yes, indeed, you have less memory and slower processors for some things in a 2016 RLX than the 2015 TLX has.

It's just the way the car design cookie crumbled in this case.

I do not at all regret owning this car. Any car that'll get to 60 in five seconds while weighing 4400# and getting 31.3 mpg after 22,000 miles is more than okay in my book.

:-)

But I'm realistic about it. It's not a super car, it's not an ultimate-at-anything car.

It's just a very reasonable choice, that's all.

The compromise with LKAS and ACC is just one of many, many compromises.

Don't focus on it too much or you'll be buying a new car every year!

LKAS likes to keep right and does not like narrow roads even with clear markings. One odd thing noticed today is that is stays engaged below 45 mph.

ACC does not like approaching stopped traffic. For some reason it flashes brake when slowing down.

New trick is to tap the ACC set button when approaching a red light with slowing traffic instead of using the brake pedal.

I believe ACC uses more aggressive regen, can this be confirmed?
