Have had this happen a couple of times now . . . . . . out shopping, car has been sitting in parking lot locked, I walk up to the car with the fob in my pocket. I open the door via the latch on the trunk lid. I load the items in the car, close the trunk. The trunk immediately reopens and sounds the chirp as if the fob was in the trunk. The fob is still in my pocket. I close the trunk again, and on one occasion, it reopens again with the tone. On the other occasion, it stayed closed. Any one else experience this?

 

Yup, happened to me yesterday.... my wife was laughing at me cause i had to go back to the trunk 2x. I thought i was being punked, haha.

 

It has happened to me twice also. I believe its because the key (in your pocket) is too close to the car (bumper), and it thinks its inside the trunk (safety feature).

 

Yeah, I heard a little bit from the Mrs. as well. Ribbed me for not knowing enough about my car even though every time she sees me on my computer, I am on this forum!

 

This has never happened to me, but that may be because the key fob is always in my left back pocket and I open the trunk with my right hand. It would seem that the sensor may have limited proximity tolerance.

 

It has happened to me when the keys are in the trouser pocket closest to the car when I close the lid. The proximity sensors cannot define if the keys are in or out of the trunk at close range. This would be a nice reason to have a power trunk lid feature - so you could hit the button and step away before the lid closes completely. I strongly expect to see a power trunk lid feature in the MMC. It already has the proximity sensors (the door handles illuminate as you approach the car), so the logic just needs to be amended to to offer a auto trunk release similar to Hyundai. (But it would be annoying to have the trunk pop just because to stood by the rear of the car too long (like when fueling the car - as I just witness a Hyundai did). The power trunk lid was the only feature I personally felt was missing the the Advance package,

 

Proximity sensor for the win..... i placed the fob in my left pocket and stood about a foot further out as I closed the trunk and moved towards the driver door and no beep and no trunk popping open.

 

All the dam time, super annoying. Another thing, sometimes the trunks raises by itself when you hit one of the release buttons and sometimes it doesn't. I wish the auto raise was a permanent feature, lol.

 

Sometimes my trunk wouldn't automatically release to the upright position either (it would just unlock but stay down). What I did was apply several coats of wax to both the trunk and bumper at the connector points - problem solved.

This happens to me about once every two months.

It's rare so I don't know exactly what set of circumstances is causing the car to believe the FOB is inside the compartment.

It doesn't bother me enough to go very far with trying to troubleshoot it. :-)

 

This happens to me almost every business day...reason being is key fob is in the right pocket of my suit coat. I open the trunk to place briefcase in trunk, close the trunk lid and walk around the drivers side of the car. Because the fob is in the right pocket it triggers the trunk release. I've learned to grab the key through the jacket and this keeps the trunk release from activating. This happened on my 2016 model and still happens on the 2017 model. I discussed with dealer and they discussed with Acura when I had the 2016 model but nothing has been fixed. Supposedly it was explained to an Acura engineer but again no remedy.

 

That makes perfect sense.

I've learned to take a step back instead of walking toward the driver door as I shut the lid.

You're exactly right, it's when I'm shutting the lid as I walk to the side of the car that the lid doesn't close.

 

Okay, so this behavior is "normal" when the key fob's too close. I keep my key in my right pant pocket and assumed the trunk release button was getting pressed.

 

I guess you can call it normal. Sort of hard to figure what is and what is not causing the trunk to re-open. Sort of random to me. Even with all of the suggestions listed here.

 

If stand to close with key in pants pocket, the car would mistaking it being inside the trunk and re-open. I guess it's really sensitive. But I rather be safe than sorry. don't want my key lock in trunk:P

 

Understood. However, my experience is that it doesn't always react in the same manner. Sometimes it beeps and opens, and sometimes it remains shut. Key fob is in the same pocket, I'm executing the same action, in roughly the same position. To me it is not really an issue. Just a slight annoyance. And yes, better safe than sorry.
