RLX Navigation question

Can the RLX Navigation system be programmed while you drive? You could always do this on previous Acura models.

^^unlikely. all of the redesigns (RDX and ILX) have locked out the navi while the car is in drive. i'm not sure if the other 2013's have locked out the navi.

while i have driven the new RLX, i didn't really play with the navi to see if it was locked out or not. i believe that acura is moving towards locking the navi out while driving as a "safety" feature. of course, you know someone will find a way to hack it.

Not all features are locked out. Some are still available by voice command. This is from the 2013 RDX Navigation manual. Not saying this is how the RLX will work but it is probably similar...

I wonder if the RLX, as a flagship, will be free of such limitations. I know it's a selling point for BMW and Audi (though they offer HUDs, to help counter-balance navi use on the go).

I would guess the RLX will closely mimic the Accord Nav which in turn I believe is similar in lockouts to the RDX.

No. Moving forward all Acura's with Tech/Nav will be equipped as on the ILX/RDX to start, with several features locked in motion except when controlled by voice.

It is annoying, yes, however if you use the simple voice commands instead, it is more useful in every way anyway. This is the right work around, for now.

The RLX uses the next gen of system further beyond that of the ILX/RDX with 3D view, etc., but the same kind of locks.

Ah, maybe the voice commands will be like the germans, as well? Just say the address, or google search the place name via voice, rather than parsing it piece-by-piece? Or is that going to fully rely on Acuralink (like how Lexus is doing it)?

Navi - one letter at a time

Folks,

I have owned many an Acura as well as an Audi A6. Audi is light years beyond Acura when it comes to "free speech" entry for addresses, points of interest, etc.

I drove the new RLX the other day and was hopeful, but alas...still one letter at a time for most of the entry. Example, my address = speech for city (great), street = one letter at a time with press the button each time, number = one number at a time with press the button each time. What a drag, disappointing.

That being said, I didn't work at it too hard. Hope I am wrong and more tuning of the system is forthecoming. I still have hopes.

Ordered my Pom RLX Advance and it should arrive 01 July. Will keep you posted. Still a better price point than a new Audi A6 comparably equiped.

I used to be able to speak the street name with my 2006 RL without having to spell it out.

I was in the car (not moving but in drive) and was able to enter full street names by voice (not letter by letter) and street numbers in one shot. Just to double check, I drove a '13 RDX Tech and it's the same.

Congrats on your purchase. I wonder why the long wait? Is that because of the color? Or is every car a special purchase?

What about when driving, I thought then you have to do one letter at a time?

I'm guessing color and nothing he wanted inbound was available, I have same issue if I get another M, nothing in US in my config so I would have to order and that is a 4 month process.

I couldn't drive the RLX, it was blocked in. That's why I drove the RDX instead. The RLX in "D" allows full street input by name. In the RDX while driving, it allows full street input by name.

With voice commands I don't believe there are many restrictions.
