I've had my 2014 RLX PAW-S for about 3 months now, and I've been struggling to find a good place to put my phone. What are ya'll using for phone mounts? I'm reluctant to use any of those vent clip ones, CD slot ones, etc, because I've seen one too many damage a car.
Right now I'm laying it flat on the center console, but it is awkward to grab it or look at it (when safe to do so, of course).
I placed to mount on the upper right hand corner of the dash beside the top right of the screen (it's the widest part as it goes down into a V from below that). I hold my iPhone XS Max with a Spigen case on it no problem. High recommend (if you can still buy it), although downside is I can't do wireless charging with the mount.
Not a fan of vent mounts (unless you are travelling), but everyone has their preference. If you want a vent mount, I recommend the Airframe+ by Kenu: https://www.kenu.com/products/airframe-plus
I had an Aukey one like that, which works fine except I found on some rental cars the phone would point away from me, which is why I recommended the Spigen one because it can pivot and rotate.
I was a chronic text and driver until the government made it illegal with hefty fines if caught. I now leave my phone in my briefcase in the rear footwell and it works just fine.
But I have a heavy foot and like to see the Police spottings on Waze as I drive....not perfect but it does help and gives me a little extra insurance. Saved me a ticket last night on the 407 with one of the reports!
Comes with a 4" adjustable neck and a base that you can tighten into the cup holder. I like that it is tall enough where I can see at a glance, I can move away from center stack controls, doesn't interfere with front passenger's space, and I can use the smartphone touch screen function very easily. Downside is you are down one cup holder; but, you still have two more cup holders in the rear seat armrest.
For what it's worth I decided to go with a CD slot holder, it covers up some of the lower screen but it's nice how easily you can see the phone while driving.
Later this year I'm going to ditch the phone holder all together by getting wireless android auto in the upper screen and putting the phone in the center console (with a wireless fast charger)
I needed to updated my old iPhone 6S+ to a 13 Pro Max because of the 3G network. Also updated my cupholder phone holder with one with wireless charging. I also added the dual cup holder to add more space the iPhone holder took away.
Lopnord Car Cup Holder phone holder with wireless charging, Amazon, $33:
I’m using one of those round magnetic plates cut with a tin snip and 15lbs two sided scotch tape. I know how to remove the tape without damage if need be in the future.
Then I taped a swivel magnet to a magsafe charger. I'm just trying to decide where to get power. I'm either going to get it from the little "ashtray" door or a 12 socket that I put on the fuse box or the center console. I'm waiting on warmer weather to finish.
I use the magnetic kind that hooks onto the vent slats. I think those are the best. I’ve tried the cup holders (robs me of my cupholder), the suction cups (always fell off) & the taped (i couldn’t get it off on my old car).
