Driving home on the 405 this morning, a flying rock hit my windshield hard. Nice 6" crack ensue. I have Exoshield film, but it do a damn to prevent the crack. Called the installer to asked about warranty, he said since I didn't buy the extra glass coverage, the replacement glass is not covered. Just great! Anyone knows how much a new OEM windshield cost installed?
Called my local dealer: $2649 total to replace glass with calibration included. Thanked God AAA covered replacement of windshield and new Exoshield film. Still cost me $500 deductible. Just my luck, not driving all year long. Took it out for a short drive today and BAM $500 lighter in the wallet. I think this time I will buy the extra glass warranty coverage with Exoshield - $150 for 2 years is not bad.
Sorry to hear about the terrible luck with your windshield jdpdata. Other posters on this site have had problems when replacing the windshield on their RLX Sport Hybrids because it is a different windshield than the PAWS RLX. What I am saying is be extra cautious in double checking that they do, in fact, get the correct windshield for your Sport Hybrid.
Exoshield is worthless waste of money, I regret getting it. Doesn't do a damn thing to prevent hard rock strikes. Since my insurance is covering replacement film, I might as well get it redone once I get new windshield installed. And they're also covering windshield tint that previous owner had installed.
Ouch! Sorry about your windshield. My guess is Exoshield is like Xpel Clear Bra? Protects against road rash and small stones. But like Xpel does not protect against large high speed rock/sharp impact hits. I have 30k miles on my ‘20 RLX. The windshield has mild road rash pitting all over and several small pits. My hood has 2 areas where stones have penetrated the film. What the Xpel does exceedingly well is eliminating most all road rash ie sandblasting effect. A few cars back I had a 2006 RL. My friend I sold it to in 2011 had the aging clear bra removed about 2 years ago when the RL had in excess of 250k miles. I was amazed at how pristine the bumper and hood remained from lack of sandblasting. There were 2 or 3 areas from where stones had penetrated the film and chipped paint from major hits.
Sorry to hear about the rock strike on your RLX and thanks for the heads up. I need to double-check my coverage with Farmer's. It takes a special type of glass because of the HUD for the RLX hybrid. The HUD might be out of focus or not reflect properly if you use non-OEM glass not made for that feature.
I also have Exoshield on my 19 MDX and 18 RLX for over a year ($200 for each vehicle with my PPF). We only got around 5-6 inches of precipitation in the last year and I use my wipers for only minutes a time for the short storms. Took my 19 MDX on our first road-trip of the year to San Antonio for the 4th of July (12hrs on-way). It pretty much rained the entire road trip and 3 days straight in TX. My Exoshield started to develop patches/splotches that is spreading with every rain storm. I don't see them from inside the MDX; but, extremely noticeable from outside. I need to take it back to the installer to find out WTF and does it need to be replaced.
Look way worse in person and spreads with every rain storm.
If my insurance wasn't paying for the replacement Exoshield, I wouldn't get it redone. Too much hassle worrying about the wipers causing damage or the pressure washer lifting the film. I could see this stuff would be beneficial to someone who does alot of driving in dusty environment. For me who drives very little, totally not worth it.
I'm going through this exact process right now for my '16 Sport Hybrid Adv! I'm trying to work this out with my insurance since I still keep full-coverage. The cost for the OEM windshield itself is $1700, so I have no idea what it's going to be after installation and recalibration. And of course my insurance contracts with Safelite which wants to replace with non-OEM -- not gonna happen! I guess we'll see later this week once it arrives.
My insurance (AAA) doesn't care where I get the glass replace. So I called my local Acura dealership to order OEM glass along with all the needed parts, clips, mouldings, weatherstrips. Made sure they ordered correct parts for my car. Doubled check part numbers. Pretty sure they will outsource the glass installation to 3rd party. Afterwards the car goes back to dealer for calibration. Will make sure they calibrate front and rear cameras.
AAA also will reimburse me for Exoshield and glass tint replacement. I really love AAA. They make claim process so easy.

It is possible that the RLX Sport Hybrid is rare enough that non-OEM windshields do not exist - it just wouldn't be worth the time/ tooling costs for non-OEM windshield manufacturers to make a bespoke version for a car with maybe a couple of thousand units driving around. Hopefully that means you get a genuine Acura windshield for your replacement.
Speaking of windshields, I have a 2014 RLX with PAWS and recently got a chip which ran and is now requiring replacement.
State Farm approved OEM replacement and calibration but we are pushing 4 weeks waiting for the windshield to come in. Safelite ordered the OEM through my local dealer and it originally had a ship date of July 6, but now they have no idea of a ship date. Has anyone else experienced this lately?
Ordered my glass before we left on vacation about 1 week ago. Still no calls from dealer. I'm afraid I'll have to wait weeks for glass delivery too. 😩 Meanwhile don't want to drive the car with big ass crack.
This happened to me a few years ago and the dealer installed P-AWS glass in my SH in error, which made my HUD blurry. Then had to wait for the SH glass to arrive. Was super expensive in CAD but all I had to pay was my $500 deductible. My insurance company did say based on the cost to replace, if it happened again they would most likely cancel glass coverage under my policy. I don’t drive the SH much anymore so fingers crossed, it hasn’t happened again.
Not sure about now, but no aftermarket glass existed for the SH when I had mine done so I got OEM replacement.

Sounds like changing your insurance is a smart move and switching to a better insurance provider.
The moment they have to pay out, they start hiking prices or threatening with canceling the coverage - at least in your case they told you upfront

Wow, which insurance is that? Will stay away from them.

Canada has some of the craziest insurance premiums specially in GTA and in specific zip codes due to lot of fraudulent claims(or so the people say).
When I first changed my Insurance from US to CA was shocked to hear that minimum insured amount was 1MM and recommended was 2MM
My insurance carrier (AAA) had no problems with my claim. Even after telling the agent OEM replacement windshield would cost $2649. And they even will cover replacement Exoshield and tint. All in my claim is about $3349. Of course it helps that my driving record is clean and no major claims in the last decade or so.

Any update on your glass coming in? I still have no ship date on mine...
Shipping delays is due to Covid. I don't expect major delays in the future once all the shipping problems is fixed. At least, I hope not, else this car is no good long term if we can't get replacement parts in timely manner.
I think the rarity of the Sport Hybrid model is the cause of the delay in getting your windshield. I believe another poster was told that the Sport Hybrid model windshields have to come from Japan which would make the Covid delay and travel time delay more understandable. No less frustrating, but more understandable.
I checked with my dealer today as well -- same news. I'm told it's the brackets and not the actual glass that are difficult to get ahold of. I have a '16 Sport Hybrid Adv, so I don't know if there are any differences from the '18+ models...

There are no brackets holding the windshield in - it sits in a channel. Urethane glue and then the moldings finish the install. The windshields have been and will continue to be a nightmare to obtain without a long wait.
I've been there and that was before a pandemic messed everything up. I wish there was a speedy solution for RLX/RL albatross owners.
I find it amusing how many of us face similar issues around the same time... coincidence?
My '17 RLX Hybrid had a minor rock chip on windshield which started to spread so took it to my local dealer (Long Island) which quoted $2600 (Windshield+Labor+Calibration) plus 6 weeks out for OEM windshield to come in from California. I thought that price was a bit high (didn't want to deal with insurance and reimbursement) so I went through my insurance directly which sent me to Safelite. I spoke with the manager at local Safelite to reconfirm that this vehicle is hybrid with HUD and he ran the VIN and ordered the proper windshield (Hybrid OEM, no other choice). Took about five weeks for windshield to arrive. Went in on a Friday at Safelite for install. Install was a breeze, but calibration was difficult (2 parts: 1. calibrate standing/parked + 2. calibrate on the road) with Friday afternoon traffic in Long Island--technician said he couldn't get it up to proper speed to finish calibration. Okay. Came back Saturday afternoon and technician took almost an hour to calibrate with no success. Technician said it's possible their BOSCH calibration machine could be the issue as this is not the first ACURA/HONDA system they had difficulty working with. Not much they could do, so I contacted my insurance company which referred me to take it to Acura dealer to get it recalibrated and the price of calibration will be reimbursed. The following week, took the car on a business trip out of state (missed using ACC+LKAS on highway) and got the calibration done at the nearest dealership where I was staying. In and out within few hours. Immensely enjoyed my trip back home on the highway with fully functioning ACC (6 hour trip). Love this car. BTW Safelite wasn't much cheaper than what my dealership originally quoted for the job (OEM Windshield is $1600).
@vtec_v6 your quote is similiar to what my local dealer quoted me for OEM glass ($1600). But my dealer is jacking up the installation to $500. I suspect they don't do glass replacement in-house and are outsourcing it. From your receipt, I see installation shouldn't be more than $250. So they're keeping the extra $250 for themselves. Crooks! I had terrible experience with Safelite on my previous cars. They scratch the crap out of my A-pillar trying to remove the glass. I hope they won't do this again with my RLX. I do have Expel PPF on the A-pillar, so I think that will help minimize any scratches.
jdpdata This is my first time working with Safelite and luckily the technician who worked on my vehicle was very knowledgeable and took his time to explain the situation. The windshield install was excellent from my perspective (couldn't tell any difference from the original glass) so I didn't have a negative experience--but working with any shop, it's a luck of the draw which technician works on your vehicle. I'm a big fan of PPF. Worth every penny.
XPEL , 3M, or SunTek are some of the top name brands. Some of the best work is done by a professional installer with custom cut sheets that can cover any painted surface on your vehicle. It can look 99% invisible when applied correctly, very durable, UV protection, can be self healing in the sun, and give you a mirror shine with less maintenance compared to claybar/waxing or ceramic coating.
I've used PPF on my front end, side mirrors, and front bumper since 2006 to help with road rash and UV headlight damage.
Congrats! Mine is due in this week too. Really ghetto driving around with cracked windshield. It's spreading couple cm per day!
Hey @jdpdata, FINALLY got my Exoshield replace under the film warranty on my 19 MDX. The installer said there has been a lot of issues with that version of Exoshield. Exoshield did update the old film formula since. My RLX has the old formula that might end up crapping out down the road. The installer did give me some wax to use to help lubricate the film on both cars.

Did you bought the extra warranty from Exoshield? How much was it? I called my install, he said without that warranty they won't replace the glass. I use spray ceramic hybrid wax on mine after every wash. Still pretty disappointed it couldn't save my windshield from a rock strike.
The Exoshield was replaced for free and I didn't get the warranty with the original purchase. I figured with hwy speeds of 75-85 mph would make a difference w/ or w/o the warranty.
