Why Third Generation Nomenclature?
Why do we call this thing the Third Generation, instead of the Fifth Generation?
Just curious! :-)
First Generation (1985-1990) KA1 - KA6
Second Generation (1990-1995) KA7, KA8
Third Generation (1995-2004) KA9
Fourth Generation (2004-2012) KB1
Fifth Generation (2014-?) KC1

technically the first and 2nd gen were called "legend".
3rd and 4th were "RL" (1G and 2G RL)
so really the 5th gen should be a first gen "RLX" if we went solely with name changes.
kind of like the TL...it went from the vigor to the TL (1-4) and soon to be released TLX (1). However...i guess since we're all in the know here on AZ...we know the RLX as the 3G of the same car regardless of it's name change with the added X. same with the TLX (5G).
eh...who knows.

It's a bit stranger, since the TLX replaces two model lineups, the TSX and TL. So do we call it the 3rd gen TLX based on the TSX? Or do we split the difference at 4th gen TLX?
Maybe we should even move it to 6th gen, since technically the Vigor was the genesis of it all... though the Vigor we got was, itself, a 3rd gen product from Japan.
