VIN breakdown?
VIN breakdown?
Anyone have the breakdown of our VIN numbers 17 characters?
I think I read somewhere the last 6 characters were the production run numbers..
I think the JH4 (first 3 characters) is the WMI number (World Manufacture Identifier) Japan, Honda,Acura Passenger Vehicle.
What do the other 8 characters represent?

This might help http://lmgtfy.com/?q=how+do+car+vin+numbers+work
KC1 <--I guess this means, specifically, 3G Legend J35Y4
I doubt we'll be referring to the RLX as a KC1 the way that we used to refer to CL9 and DC2.
:-)
You never know, though. Maybe the RLX will be a popular cult classic if we keep talking about it.

The first letter/number in the VIN tells where the car was made. If it is a "J", the car was built in Japan. If it is a "2", the car was made in Canada. The "1" and "5" is here in the USA. I think that covers the entire Acura line.
The last 6 digits are the production run numbers. So if you have 000001, it is the first unit for that model year of that specific model. If you have 025678, you have the 25,678 unit of the model year.
The 10th digit/letter in the VIN represents the model year. So if you have a "1", it is a 2001 vehicle, a "2" would represent a 2002 model, etc. In 2010 they went back to letters (2000 and older cars also used letters) so if you see an "A" as a 10 digit on a VIN, you have a 2010 model and a "B" would be a 2011, etc. All of the RLXs so far will have a "E" as the 10th digit since they are all 2014 models.

Quite interesting. I checked the VIN on my TL and verified that is was built in the USA and the 10th digit is a "C", confirming it as a '12 model. I have unit 19,315. Pretty cool.
The TSX V6 I had prior to my TL was built in Japan, was model year '10 and I had unit 3,303.
