Valet Mode

so I checked out Valet mode yesterday. Instructions say to lock glove box, trunk pass through, enter pin in valet settings and take "key" with you and hand fob to valet.

I guess that means the keys are not chipped anymore

I thought it was just to prevent the valet person from using the key to manually unlock the trunk pass-through?

yes correct, but my point was that the RL would not start without the key part of the fob because the chip for the disabler was in the key

so in the RLX, the chip must be in the fob not the key

now I'm confused
Checked in the manual about the immobilizer (I said disabler above) and it references "key" not fob

did they mean to say fob in manual or are the valet instructions wrong?

Actually, in the RL, the physical key part of the fob has nothing to do with the ability to keyless start. The physical key had its own immobilizer chip IN ADDITION to the key fob itself. So in other words, the RL WILL START with just the fob in the car even if the physical key is not in the fob.
