unlock/locking during wash

This was common in RLs - wash car with fob in pocket and doors would lock and unlock frequently

I thought issue went away with RLX because I had washed car many times with no issue. Then yesterday it happened. Car was locked when I started washing it - most previous times it would probably have been unlocked. When water spray hit handles, doors unlocked. Then later relocked since doors were not opened. Happened half a dozen times during the wash

Check out page 374 in the owners manual....it explains how to put the car into "cash wash mode". It will solve your problem.

Here you go....

BTW you can download the Owner's Manual from the Acura website in a PDF format and save it to your computer. This allows you to search for words and quickly pull up the info you want. It is much faster to find something than thumbing through the Table of Contents or the entire book.

■ When opening the driver’s door
If you open the driver’s door under the following conditions, the gear position
automatically changes to (P.
• The vehicle is in stationary with the power mode in ON, or moving at 2 km/h or
slower.
• The transmission is in other than (P.
• You have unfastened the driver side seat belt.
u If you manually change the gear position from (P with the brake pedal
depressed, the gear position will automatically return to (P once you release
the brake pedal.
■ When turning off the power mode
If you turn the power system off while the vehicle is stationary, and the transmission
is in other than (P, the gear position automatically changes to (P.
■ If you want to keep the transmission in (N position (car wash mode)
With the engine running:
1. Press and hold the brake pedal.
2. Within 5 seconds select (N.
3. Then press the POWER button.
u This puts the vehicle in car wash mode which must be used when your vehicle
is pulled through a conveyor type automatic car wash where you or an
attendant do not remain in the vehicle.
u The gear position remains in (N with the power mode in ACCESSORY for 15
minutes, then, it automatically changes to (P and the power mode changes to
off.

Manually changing to (P cancels ACCESSORY mode. The (P indicator comes on
and the power mode changes to OFF.
1When opening the driver’s door
While the system is designed to automatically change
the gear position to (P under the described
conditions, in the interest of safety you should always
select (P before opening the driver's door.
Make sure to park the vehicle in a safe place.
2 When Stopped P. 432
If you want to drive the vehicle after the gear position
has automatically changed to (P under the described
conditions, close the door, fasten the seat belt,
depress the brake pedal, then change the gear
position.
If you leave the vehicle, turn off the power system
and lock the doors.

Sorry I misunderstood. Here is something I found on pg 140...

It says that if the car is locked and the key fob is within range that a heavy rain may cause the door to unlock. See below.

1Using the Keyless Access System
• Do not leave the keyless access remote in the
vehicle when you get out. Carry it with you.
• A person who is not carrying the keyless access
remote can lock/unlock the doors if a person who
is carrying it is within range.
• The door may be unlocked if the door handle is
covered with water in heavy rain or in a car wash if
the keyless access remote is within range.
• If you grip a front or rear door handle wearing
gloves, the door sensor may be slow to respond or
may not respond by unlocking the doors.
• The door may not open if you pull it immediately
after gripping the door handle. Grip the handle
again and confirm that the door is unlocked before
pulling the handle.
If the distance at which the keyless access remote
works varies, the battery is probably low.
If the LED does not come on when you press a
button, the battery is dead.
2 Replacing the Button Battery P. 492
You can customize the door lock mode and keyless
lock acknowledgement setting.
2 Customized Features P. 117, 288
Door Lock Button

So I guess the easy solution is to just leave the car unlocked when washing it.

My problem in the RL was that after a car wash the door handle lock/unlock function would not work until the handle dried out, usually at least several hours later. I had to use the buttons on the fob to lock or unlock the car. I haven't experienced this yet with the RLX.

I used to experience this on my previous two RLs but not on my RLX. On a somewhat related matter I cannot believe no one else has complained about the following. If you stand to close to the taillights with the key fob in your pocket and close the truck lid it will reopen and give off the alert sound as if you’ve locked the keys in the trunk. This is very annoying if you have limited room in your garage and have to stand close to the car when closing the trunk or when you’re out in the rain or in a hurry and it reopens on you and you have to close it again. The dealer confirmed this behavior on other cars besides mine. Apparently, there is not adequate shielding between the taillights and the key fob receiver inside the car. Another engineering marvel brought to you by Acura.

I have this problem with the MDX, but not the RLX. Typically I have the car unlocked when washing anyway so I can open the doors and clean the door jams.

This has bit me a few times, but never really bothered to report it. But yea, it definitely is an issue and appears to be specifically when passing on the side of the taillights directly after closing the trunk door. Which is exactly what typically happens when you are rushed to close the trunk and get in the car when you are out in the open rain.

Careful though, don't whine too hard, we don't want Acura to know it's a problem and actually fix it....
