Take a wild guess....

Got me a spare RLX SH steering wheel a while back. To make the story short, I found a local professional shop that can wrap leather steering wheel. Gave the good to make better and just got the finished product back.... just the way I want it.

Here are some before pictures... I took apart the steering wheel.

I once had to replace my center console on my 08 RDX because the cheap leatherette ripped. The real leather was so comfortable, stayed cool in summer, comfy in winter, and never discolored like the rest of the RDX taupe interior in high use areas.

Agree, will post pix and vid when I install the steering wheel. Can't wait. It feels so nice to hold.

Some more detailed pictures. OEM look that matches the seat perforation.

Nice! I do wish the RLX steering wheel was beefier like the newer TLX Aspec.

I don't know if you know Elvin on Instagram. He lives in FL and does custom Carbon Fiber steering and shift knob. When I had my Lexus GS, I had a custom CF steering. Loved it. CF doesn't really match our RLX interiors and we don't have shift knob. But would be nice if we get some aftermarket goodies.

I would upgrade my plastic interior to either rear wood or carbon fiber if it was available. The plastic trim really brings down the "Wow" factor of the RLX.

You could do vinyl wrap. I did my GS wrap in CF. Looks ok for amateur first time attempt. Here's a pic of my GS interior.

I did asked about carbon fiber steering wheel. The heating will probably not work anymore if go that route. After the mod, the steering wheel is a bit thicker to hold. You got a really nice GS interior. As for the interior trims the ebony interior RLX trims got this black marble looks to it a bit different from the lighter interior RLX.

I would like to upgrade to real wood, too. really a shame Acura doesn’t understand luxury. I actually ordered the vinyl kit from rvinyl and it never even came. I canceled the order and got my refund just last month. they kept trying to tell me it’s custom made. The order was from April of this year. There’s no way “custom made” takes that long.

phile, some of the leather restoration guys paint over the stained leather just need to match the color of the leather. In my previous seacoast interior RLX SH back seat, the leather restoration guy took one of the headrest and got the paint from Home Depot, and spray the paint on the blue berry stained leather and it look as good as new. Sometimes, the stain on the leather is too stubborn to come out.

I got lucky and found someone local that can work with the steering wheel. Normally, they are busy with all that is going on. It took them several weeks to finish my steering wheel. I got the spare steering wheel from eBay (much cheaper) so they can work on it without me giving up the car. The total cost of the end product is around $500 (spare steering wheel $150-$200 + top grain perforated leather + labor done professionally $300)

I figure that the part of the car I touch the most... so it's worth it

Are you going to need an alignment once you swap steering wheels? I did with my GS after swap. It was off about 5 degree that I couldn't adjust on the steering wheel. I guess the "teeth" on the new hub is slightly different from each other.
I would like meatier grips at 3 and 10 o'clock positions. Of all my cars, my BMW 328 probably had to best steering wheel, meaty and thicc LOL Why the Japanese don't do this with their cars. Maybe Japanese men have smaller hands??

My old 06 TSX and 08 RDX had larger steering wheel grips. You don't realize how much you miss them until they are gone.

Acura is leaving a lot of easy money on the table by not providing accessories upgrades like this steering wheel. I was able to upgrade my old 06 TSX with:
- Aspec body kit
- Aspec wing
- Apsec suspension
- Aspec exhaust tips
- interior metal trim kit
- leather shift knob

The most you can do now for the RLX is add all weather mats or spare tire kit.

I think it should be an even swap. I was reading up on the MDX thread about adding the heating option. That person took pictures of every step of taking the airbag off and removing the steering wheel. I swapped out my previous TL and RL steering wheels before and needed no alignment. I guess we'll have to see when we cross that bridge A good holiday project

Do you mind sharing the shop contact info via PM?
Also, what was the price for them to take care of this amazing wrap?

PM sent, I can't attach the business card picture in PM. Otherwise, I would've attached a picture of the business card. The contact info is in PM. He got a catalog of color, style, leather, and perforated leather pattern including the color of the stitch to choose from.

Steering wheel looks awesome! If I am understanding this right it looks like you may have that old black wheel laying around now not being used? If so, I would love to buy it from you for a reasonable price if your looking to get rid of it. I just purchased an RLX with Seacoast interior but the wheel is pretty "used" and it shows on the light color. Looking to get it replaced with a black one. Let me know, thanks!

Sorry for the delay in reply. That is certainly an option to go. I still need to get around to putting the steering wheel on. With Covid and all still haven't put the wheels on. I'll keep you posted
