So long, 2017 RLX

Due to a collision with a deer, my 2017 RLX SH-AWD Advance has been totaled by the insurance company. I am purchasing a 2019 Lexus ES300h but if Honda still sold the RLX in the United States, I would have bought a new one. I have owned four Acuras since 2006, the first being a 2004 TL 6MT. I loved driving each one.

Acurazine has been a joy to read and I thank the moderators and posters for sharing their insights and experiences, and for their fun comments. I have learned so much from you guys. I'll be living my Acura experience vicariously through this forum, if nobody minds. Thanks again.

Sorry to hear about your RLX, Jim 2004, at least you apparently came out of the accident healthy. Hope you have many happy miles in your new Lexus - likely not as sporty and fun to drive as your RLX Sport Hybrid, but Lexus do make nice cars.

Hopefully, some news of an RLX replacement will be trickling in soon to give you a reason to keep visiting Acurazine.

All the best.

I didn't see any point in looking for a competing AWD sport-hybrid sedan, so I went with the FWD hybrid ES Ultra Luxury. It is the same size as the RLX and has a lot of the things the Advance does such as heads-up display, but you're right, hondamore--the ES is not nearly as quick or, I suspect, as nimble. (I'm buying online so I have not driven it yet.)

About a year ago, an Acura service writer told me that if the Legend were to reappear in North America, it would likely be an EV. Not sure where he got that since Honda still sells a couple of hybrid models here, but a transition to EVs should not surprise anyone.

I have to agree that a low-volume, high-priced flagship luxury sedan like the Legend and/or a halo supercar like the NSX are the perfect platforms for Acura to build its first in-house (ie not GM sourced) EVs. I am hoping that both arrive together with similar drivetrains featuring all four wheels with beefy electric motors and front and rear SHAWD programming overtorquing the outside wheels in turns producing world class handling. I know they have raced such an SHAWD NSX at the Pike's Peak run years ago, so the technology is already proven and just needs to be tweaked for volume production and acceptable range.

Sadly, I believe the GM co-op models are due to debut in 2023 or 2024, so the Acura designed and built EV's likely won't be introduced until 2025 at the earliest??? I am hoping that Acura starts to tease us with some rumours and spy shots soon, but I think they have to wait for the introduction of the Honda Prologue (and/or the Acura ZDX) before details of their in-house model EVs can be leaked.

Thanks for the info Jim 2004 - any tidbits of information is better than the silence from Acura.

What was the payout from the insurance if you do not mind sharing? Also, what mileage was on the car?

$30,806.63 after applying a $500 deductible. Mileage was around 52,000.

Sorry to read of this. Glad you are doing OK. Sadly, Acura has exited the large sedan market, and folks like us who drive them are the exception rather than the rule. I’d probably move down to an Accord to stay in the Honda fam as that’s the only large sedan left. Besides, the new Accord now comes with nifty RLX wheels

This thread reminds me of the sword of damocles hanging over my 2014 RLX Advance. I love the car, I treat it with utmost admiration. It has its quirks (some of which I have fixed, like the awful suspension, and it's 90s infotainment system), I purchased it in 2018 and my plan has always been to drive it until the wheels fall off, and then maybe look for a used 2020. I dread the day when I have to figure out "what's next."
