  • If you have any type of claim against your insurance policy, insurance companies report the damage to carfax with often inaccurate descriptions. I had a claim to fix my front bumper and insurance reported a front impact collision (traffic accident) which showed on my Carfax report... I worked with Carfax corporate to correct the content of listed reported damage and provided all documentation of fixing it in the certified shop.
  • Carfax gets reporting from only 20-25 states, I think... not all states report into carfax so the best option is: find a trusted certified body shop and have them inspect the car before purchasing it to avoid any surprises.
  • Carfax will never tell you WHO reported the damage that is showing on your report... usually, chances are it is insurance reporting it because they are pissed they have to pay out, so they look every opportunity to get back at you / owner of the car...
  • Carfax copy provided on dealerships must be dated as "recent" ... otherwise, pull your own carfax on the day you made your decision... I have seen dealers pull carfax months before the car is sold and try to mask it... do not let $40 make you spend $40,000
Carfax was pulled on the day we bought the car

Yeah, Carfax indeed has a latency in reporting accidents... if it was a fresh trade-in, someone who got it into accident must have fixed it, traded it right away so Carfax does not show it and dealer was able to do the same: by selling it to you fairly quickly after getting their hands on the car...

OR...

This was inaccurately reported on your car by typo VIN #s when it was reported...

But all in all - you are all set now with the '18 from Peabody Acura

Double checked VIN # on all Carfax copies and it's correct

Sorry, I meant to say Carfax or reporting source of the accident damage information to Carfax made a typo of entering VIN number... so naturally any Carfax you pull will have that VIN number that damage was reported to Carfax under...

What's the latest snoozabelle? Did you get the ride? If so, how much did the newly discovered repair hurt your trade-in/resale? And what happened with talking to the CARFAX folks about the missing info from their report?

We picked up the 2018 Acura RLX Sport Hybrid early Saturday morning. The dealer wouldn't budge over 12,500 for the 2014 because of the airbag deployment
red flag on the Carfax. Hard to negotiate with that staring at us. I put more more money down as a result and figured I made okay after all was said and done.
Carfax washed their hands by saying their reports are constantly updated and I should check it more often. I didn't really expect any satisfaction form Carfax.
My son helped negotiate a better price on the tire and wheel protection for 7 years. I saved $125 on that at the last minute!

The car is beautiful and the salesman tossed in a new set of rubber mats even though the car already had them. I'm happy to know the history of the previous
owner and he obviously took good care of the vehicle. My full size spare kit is installed and the Acura logo door puddle lights are in process. Thanks to hubby!
Due to my horrendous work schedule I had to wait a week to pick it up but it was worth the wait on what was a beautiful, mild day in Massachusetts. Pictures
will be coming soon. I'm back to work for the next 4 nights so hopefully after that. No Black Friday shopping for me! Stay tuned!!!!!

Congrats on the new vehicle, however I am absolutely appalled and disappointed by your dealers low ball. The Blue Book dealer trade in range for your trade in with Fair condition is $16,800 -$19,600. That is for a dealer trade in vehicle in "Fair" condition, not "Good" condition.

What your dealer did was not right. No way is it a whopping 5 thousand for an air bag deployment?? That is effing ridiculous!!! Makes me sick. Seems so wrong to me.

So now I can't get the remote start to work. I did not sign up for Acura Care so I can't start from the app. Any suggestions?

The remote start might be turned off in the Vehicle settings? Settings button, Vehicle Settings, Keyless Access Setup, & Remote Start System On/Off.

Yup!

Even if you had Acuralink app, it doesn't have a remote start feature. Only the +19 RDX and probably the next Gen TLX only have the remote start from Acuralink.

I prefer remote start on keyfob. It's free and I don't have to subscribe to useless and expensive AcuraLink. I've sat in Church and triggered remote start on our MDX parked at least 1000 ft away. It works every time! Great to cool down the car on hot summer days.

When buying a used car, I always go thru the menus to reset everything to my liking. Never know what crazy settings the previous owners had set.

Congrats! Glad it worked out, newer car, less miles, more features, no Carfax issues. Enjoy!
