"In 2018, we took advantage of the continued consumer shift toward light-trucks, contributing to another record year for our Honda and Acura light-truck businesses," said Henio Arcangeli Jr., senior vice president of the American Honda Automobile Division. "In addition to our light-truck success, our passenger car business also delivered another strong year, with Civic retaining its crown in 2018 as the best-selling retail compact car in America for nine years running and Accord commanding the highest transaction prices in the midsize segment. We remain bullish on the passenger car business and look forward to another great year in 2019 across our entire Honda and Acura lineups."

Solid choice IMO despite the issues I had at the end of my lease. I'm not at all sorry I leased one. Rather fun drive for a largish sedan. I'd rather have its two-door American cousin, though.

"Our Honda and Acura dealers delivered a strong January and have put us on course for a fast start in 2019, despite extreme weather conditions throughout much of the country during the last week of the month," said Henio Arcangeli Jr., senior vice president of the American Honda Automobile Division. Do you think the KC1 and KC2 will catch on after they stop making them?
That's what has happened with the ZDX and the 4G TL.
After they stopped making them and the overall reliability became more evident, suddenly people are standing in line for them.

I was amused to see a few days ago that he had a video out recommending "solid" used luxury [sic] cars.
The RLX was near the top of his list as a car that was beginning to prove its long term viability, a car that won't die. He liked specifically the P-AWS version of the car because it didn't have the complications of the electric AWD systems, and because it was paired with the combination of a solid transmission and under stressed J Motor that he already knows will last a long time.

He says Toyota/Lexus are slightly more reliable, but Honda/Acura are more "sporty" for people who want that.
His personal cars tend to be Toyota and Lexus, but even he has some issues with the most recent ones. He doesn't like complications.
Strange guy. Annoying most of the time.

“Our investment in benchmark products for both Honda and Acura has put us in position to achieve strong sales results, even in a challenging market,” said Henio Arcangeli Jr., senior vice president of the American Honda Automobile Division. “While some competitors are using fleet sales to boost their numbers in this relatively flat market, our gains across the board are driven by retail customers buying our products one at a time.”

I am tempted to pull the trigger on an RLX and am a current 4G TL owner, but 2019 represents the seventh year of the platform so the time is coming for Acura to poop or get off the pot. You see lots and lots of magazine articles predicting the demise of the RLX, but I am also see quotes by Honda executives suggesting it is a flagship car and it will not be dropped from the lineup for that reason. If I wait until this fall and it gets dropped, then there will still be either left over inventory or super-low mileage 2018/19's out there if I choose to stay with the Acura brand. If it's a new model, then I get to decide which direction. If it survives in it's current form for it's eighth year, then I am not sure what I will do....however, the new ES 350 F Sport is also reasonably appealing. My last five vehicle purchases have been Acura with one Honda for my daughter. I never liked the ES, but have changed my mind with the new model in F Sport trim.

I believe we are slated to find out in August what the future of the RLX is going to be. I have never driven one, but heck since less than 2K per year have been sold, I guess only 15k people have driven one (plus any resales). They will have to hit it out of the park with a new RLX if they want to sell anymore sedans of that caliber and that price.

I owned a 2008 ES-350, bought it new. They're marvelous cars, I think they're the best bang for the buck in the Lexus line up.
One last thought. You see an Audi, BMW, Lexus, or MB at virtually every street light. The RLX? Not so much. It truly stands out.

Not sure how much the RLX stands out though. It stands out to us Acura guys who own/know about it - but I don’t think it stands out to anyone else. I’ve owned my RLX SH for over two years now. I detail it religiously and have a very nice set of Rotiform wheels with 35mm offset which make the car look more aggressive than the stock wheels - and not one single person has ever said “nice car!” at the gas station, parking lot etc. I think it blends in - and is an Accord to anyone who doesn’t know.....
I’m OK with that because I wasn’t looking to stand out in this car - understated luxury as it’s been called many times on this forum... But to most people in the market to pay the RLX SH’s MSRP, they are looking to stand out and therein lies one of the RLX’s problems.

It will definitely be interesting to see and provides a topic for fodder in the interim. The TLX is still selling reasonably well, but if Acura bails on the RLX and the ILX, you would think the TLX would eventually suffer. I don't know what Acura will do, but the thought that they would continue on with a single sedan seems unlikely especially after limping along with their two sales dogs for so many years - SUV's have kept Acura division and dealer afloat. They can rebadge a Civic for the ILX to keep costs low since the current gen has proved there's not a big market for $30+k Honda subcompacts. However, I remain hopeful that they deliver the goods on the RLX - performance and design. The market will reward them if they deliver. Premium sedan sales are soft, not dead - look at Lexus, Audi, BMW, Mercedes, and Cadillac...and now Genesis. Acura definitely has the engineering and design chops to carve out a place in the premium sedan market and can ill-afford to lay an egg, so it will be interesting to see what happens in August.

It's funny to see the past few posts of people going from a '12 TL SH-AWD to an RLX ;-) That's my wife's transition she just did - to her '18 RLX Sport Hybrid. She does say it's not as nimble but says the ride is much more refined, and is seeing a 5 mpg jump on her commute to work (25 to 30 from the TL to the RLX). That alone for her was the justification for the upgrade! Oh, yea - plus all the other cool stuff like remote start and heated steering wheel. Happy wife, happy life!

You can’t sell product you don’t have. Not many RLXs available. But yay, NSX! If it keeps at this pace, it’ll double sales on last year.

Simple economics right? Supply and demand. No supply and quite possibly no demand! All leads to the speculation the end may be near. Hopefully it is quite the opposite and we all will be pleasantly surprised! Trying to stay optimistic. But I don't know.

In terms of "low supply" of RLX's, what's interesting is that my local dealer, where we got our '18 RLX SH earlier this year, has 3 (three) RLX SH's on their lot. A CPO '19 w/4k miles (dealer loaner, Modern Steel/Black), a new '20 White/Seacoast, and a new '20 Black/Seacoast. So if someone's looking for the "supply" I know of 3 that are around ...

These numbers sure do paint a rather bleak picture of the RLX future. However, one piece of key info in this supply/demand topic is how many Legends are being sold in Japan /Asia? . Much of the tooling I'm sure to produce the RLX unique parts like body panels, interior molded plastic pieces etc. must be shared to a large extent for both America Honda's portion as well as Asian portion of the Sayama plants RLX output. Therefore, without the Legend sales number I believe IMHO we have an incomplete picture of the whole RLX story looking forward. I am not trying to say the North American situation is not a problem, but rather introduce the RLX product continuation is more complicated than just looking at the America set of numbers. Demosan

Three Wheelin'
The RLX was never a big sales winner for reasons that have been discussed ad nauseam and now that it is long into its model cycle, anyone who would normally consider buying one might be waiting for the potential next version to arrive. The good news is that great deals will be available for anyone that wants to buy one. The bad news is that the production run was probably very small and they will be hard to find.
I'm still hoping that sometime in the next year or so, once most of the few 2020 RLX's have been sold at a big discount, then news of a potential replacement will start to trickle out. Fingers crossed.

Interesting that the RLX-SH is listed as one of the ten alternatives to a Tesla Model 3:
