RLX owners need your feedback

I have a 2010 RL which I love but have been looking for a RLX for six months. I am really picky about the color combo. My only choice is white with the seacoast. I have found that 90% of white exteriors have ebony interiors. I found close by a potential car. George mentioned in a earlier post that the advanced package with white always comes with the seacoast and this one is an advanced.

Here is where I need your assistance. The headlight problem and seat belt problem seems like an easy fix. What I am concerned about is this rattle/ noise in the suspension. I have read post and seems like it is not being fixed 100% of the time. Is the noise on all? Has anyone had the noise fixed by Acura? Is anyone just ready to pull their hair out over this issue? I can't afford this last problem either personally or with the car. I love the looks of the RLX and test drove one and loved it but very concerned to pull the trigger. Thanks for any help!!

You did not mention the RLX Sport Hybrid. As a fellow former Legend and RL owner, my advice would be, if you possibly can, to wait for the 2016 Hybrid production, presumably this spring. It does not seem to have the suspension issues that the PAWS did, and it is a truly amazing car. Every one of the (now eight?) Hybrid owners on this forum are thrilled with their purchase. Good luck with your search.

If you are looking at the Sport Hybrid, get one with any color combo. I just got a call from my dealer this morning that I just purchased mine from 29 days ago offering to buy it back from me for $2,500 over MSRP, because they can't get any more of them and they have three people who want them right now. I bought my SH-Tech for $54,500 which is an awesome price for sure as they invaded the hold back to make the deal with me. I have a funny feeling that these cars will definitely hold their value more than others because of their rarity. Think about it. There are more Ferrari 599s in the US than there will be of the SH. It is cool to be rare.

Pull the trigger and get the SH today before they are all gone.

You don't state whether you want a Sport Hybrid or PAWS. Given you say you have been looking for six months, I presume you are wanting a PAWS.

The suspension problem seems fixed for most. Our sole 2015 owner, woropollo, states satisfaction with his and it seems the issues of the 2014s have been sorted.

If you are wanting a Sport Hybrid, I also advise awaiting the 2016s unless the RLX in your color combo IS a Hybrid, in which case jump now.

I've had two RLX's.

I had an RLX Advance built in 8/13 and it did not have any suspension noise after about 19,000 miles.

I have an RLX Sport Hybrid Advance built in 1/14 and it does not have any suspension noise after about 5,500 miles.

It's not a soft suspension. You're going to have a hard bump and a thud sometimes.

But I think the annoying rattle seems to be on earlier cars.

If you like the RLX and you're looking at a 2015 model, you're probably pretty safe. :-)

The last time I was in a TLX for a few days, it was very noticeable to me the difference in materials. I don't believe that after having an RLX, I would be satisfied with a TLX, and I would probably move to a different make of car without the RLX.

Now that I think of it, my perceptions that the quality of materials used in the TLX is not as good as my 4G TL was.

But what do I know. We're all full of opinions. :-)

It was the only Sport Hybrid available to me and the only one my dealer was ever going to get.

The irony is that I do not like this color combination, necessarily. I've got used to it, and it seems okay now that I know that there's no indigo transfer and the Alsatian can come and go without wrecking it.

But it would not have been my first choice.

I'm not exactly what you'd call a car polisher so I've always wanted cars and interiors that did not show dirt.

Now I own a car that I have to at least drive through the car wash sometimes.

:-)

For a used 2014:

1. Make sure you have an extended test drive in the 2014 you're looking at to ensure it doesn't have the suspension rattle.
2. Ask if it's had the suspension rattle TSB. If not, make the deal contingent on their doing so. Dealers are having a hard enough time moving even used RLXs that they should comply to get it off their inventory.

You have all the power in this deal.

Good luck!

click on my name and then view all posts. read them, along with the other posts in those threads. you will find all you need. as a formerly enthusiastic and loyal honda and acura owner, there is no way i would recommend the rlx paws (can't speak to the hybrid). too many unresolved problems and too many other better options to choose from. pm me if you have any questions.

I have a 2015 RLX PAWS and do not have the issues that have been posted by folks with the 2014. I also notice there are deals out there, I have seen the Advanced for $52 to $55 k. I paid $56.7k

I got $6,694 off MSRP with the rubber floor mats included. There is room to negotiate hard if you basically make them chase you to make the deal. Go get'em!!!! Unless they have someone else ready to buy it, you have the power. Going next week puts you right at the end of the month. Good timing!

They have no one to buy them, that is for sure. I called today to get the MSRP (so I know if it was loaded or not). They have since called me twice to see if I can come this weekend.

Play hardball. They want you more than you want the car. Keep hitting them until you sign on the dotted line. That is what I did.

Yes negotiate hard. I check cars.com periodically and there are still 88 Hybrid's around. They are selling very slowly, most likely because those that were most interested and had waited so long have obtained one already. I have been told by multiple sources that the 2016 models will be here sometime this spring so any dealers holding 2014 models then will be in a tough position. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Are there lots of changes in the 2016 model? Probably makes sense to wait?

We don't really know, yet.

So far it sounds like minor aesthetic changes, and a Sport Hybrid reprogramming of power delivery.

In the upcoming Japanese release of the 2015 model (which we won't get here), there is an optional rear seat entertainment system, and the Advance Package includes more HVAC controls in the rear seats, together with a 7" touch screen LCD for audio controls.

Maybe we'd see those things in the 2016 North American release.

That is the million dollar question around here. Speculation and wishful thinking abound.

Would be a right replacement for my LS6, if it has those options, since I have them now.

With 2016s coming soon (of all manufacturers), the 14 is a 2 year old car....

Precisely why a huge discount is a must for anyone buying a 2014 model now.

There will be more supply in the Spring, choice of Advance or Tech models and colors you want not just the one they have in stock now.

Thumbs up My $.02

I have had my PAWS now for ~6 months & ~5k miles and no suspension rattle. I know they did some kind of recall on it before I bought it but not sure what that was all about. I have had the seatbelt recall done & will do the headlight 1 shortly; I view these as minor issues that really do not bother me. Luckily, I have had no major issues some - just some minor things with the center console lid & what not but nothing that I would complain about & regret my purchase.

As for the suspension, the car is very sporty & tightly sprung. Coming from a 2004 TSX, I am used to this & do no mind it but if you are looking for a floaty luxury car, this might not be the ride for you.

2 dealers in NC still have a white/seacoast hybrid that they must be desperate to get rid of by now. Months ago, 1 of them had a sticker on the windshield saying $4,500 off. The Pomegranate Pearl that was offered to me at ~$9k off has been sold.

In sum, the RLX is a solid car as long as you make sure yours does not have the rattle that apparently plagues others (not me tho) you should be fine. Best of luck!

One other thing is this group, myself included, may be focused on things (RLX) that are rounding errors to those making the decisions of where to focus:

Honda predicting record 2015 with new Acura TLX and Honda HR-V, improved Acura ILX, redesigned Pilot - Columbus - Columbus Business First
