Multi view rear camera

I notice at night, especially pulling out of my garage with no lights, the rear camera display is very granny looking. It fine and clear when there is light or in the daytime. My wife Pruis rear display is sharp and clear in the same environment at night. I am just wondering if other RLX owner have notice the same display at night.

It is the same as on my Sports hybrid.....the aperture on the lens has a high f-stop apparently so the picture is grainey in low light. I find while it isn't a great shot at night it is still useful. I have also noticed that when it raining drops get on the lens which also degrades the picture.

I guess this is just another thing to add to the list of improvements for the 2016 model. It hard to believe the Prius, which is half the price, has a better camera.

To be honest, my 2010 4G TL had a camera that worked better at night.

In addition to being able to see at night and in the rain, we also need to be thinking of a way to clean the camera lens.

Many manufacturers install the camera lens as if the wind stream does not matter. It does matter. :-)

We need to place it where the wind stream affects it less, or have an easy way to clean it.

If I'm ever putting something in the rear compartment of my car, it's become second nature to wipe the lens.

This may be blasphemy, but I think the VW solution of hiding the camera behind the VW emblem in the back and having a little actuator tilt the emblem exposing the camera when the car is put into reverse, is a clever design. The only problem with hiding the camera is that it makes it more difficult to clean, because the car has to be in reverse to expose the camera - even an enclosed camera will get dirty while it is exposed and will require an occasional wipe with a cloth or gloved finger. Like George, I also instinctively wipe the rear view camera in my wife's MDX whenever I'm about to open the rear hatch.

The RLX camera delivers a sharper image than the '11 RL, but not as good as our '13 TL. The RLX image is grainy at night. I also keep a cloth in the RLX trunk to wipe the lens. Same problem as the RL had. The TL's seems to stay cleaner. The devil is in the details.

Wait a minute, I'm confused. You posted earlier that you were leaving this forum because you didn't like all the complaints (which were valid complaints, and suggestions for improvements) being posted about the RLX. You even go as far as to try to call me out by questioning my purchase of the RLX as if to suggest that I shouldn't have purchased the car if I was constantly making complaints/suggestions for improvements, but now it's OK when you find something you don't like or want to add to the list of complaints/improvements?

Christmas spirit guys, keep it nice. No need for negativity. Can't a guy change his mind about posting?

I thought about it and came to the conclusion that it would not be fair to you if I left the forum. Who else would complain about your whining Merry Xmas and Happy New Year!

Happy new year and happy holidays. Let's keep the conversation going! Honesty, deference, respect, and sharing is what I have found in this particular car's forum. I know I am better off by reading the posts because the conversation is value add about the car and our experiences and not ad hominem.

Cheers
