I am in need of another keyfob for my '14 PAWS Advance. Should I have any concerns buying a used one from eBay? I have purchased keyfobs for my previous cars and never had a problem. How do I ensure I am ordering the correct item? Do I need to match the ID number from the onside of my current keyfob? There seem to be two model numbers, HK5V1X and HK1210B. I realize I will need to buy a blank key insert and have it matched to my current key.

How about programming? Can that only be done at the dealer or instructions available somewhere?

 

The remote just needs to be paired to the car. However the embedded key is more an issue. There is a chip in the key that the RLX Start and Security system must recognize. To match a new key & chip you will need to take it to the dealer for programming so your car will recognize the chip in the key.

 

@ op did you ever end up buying the key from ebay? I'm in the same situation currently.

lol oh ok. Well I'm in the market for one within the next few weeks, if I obtain one I'll keep you updated on which route I took and prices.

 

I have a '15 w/ Krell (don't know if that changes it) but I have tried to buy two different FOBs from the web.. one from Replace My Remote where peeps have told me was reliable. Also, was told that the dealership would have to pair them... neither worked. Luckily, the dealer didn't charge me the $89.95 programming charge. I'm not sure what to do now. Don't want to spend the $525 they want for the brand new FOB...

 

My understanding, from what dealer service folks who are site members here tell us, is this: You have to bring your car and all available key fobs (including the ones that work for your car) to the dealer. The service department has to connect their programmer to your car because it's the ECM in the car that must be reprogrammed to accept your key. The new ECM programming, once complete, allows your keys to be used to both open and start your car. If you later find the key that you lost, it's a paperweight. I'm just passing on what's been told by people who service the cars.

In theory, any recent Acura remote should work in this process.

@Arcetti, if that doesn't work, then you may be SOL and you may have to pony up the money to get a new fob at the Acura dealer itself, or go to another dealer where the charge could be less.

 

You can ask the service department to match the price of the Acura online part stores, or you can buy it yourself.......

Definitely cheaper, at $398....

OK.. FOB update... I broke down... and bought the one for $378.. and paid the $90 for programming... it apparently is the only way to go on these... it isn't a quick .. turn the key off and on and push a series of buttons .. rather there must be a connection to the ODBC connector.. at least that was the "line" I got at the dealership. I did try TWO different FOBs from the interweb... and neither would link. The genuine, new, from the dealer who sells parts wholesale worked like a champ. Personally, I didn't think it through right at the beginning... because I got in the vehicle running under the new driver.. and lo and behold, all my radio settings were "gone," all the seat settings, too... Oh, yeah... they're programmed by FOB (driver.) Live and learn. Live and learn.

 

Yes its a lengthy procedure to pair a new key....

They need to unpair all existing keys, and re-pair all of them at the same time.

It's not a line. It's a part of an idea of security. If this were not required, it might be theoretically possible to configure a remote from outside your car, which is not something that they want people to be able to do.

 

I called an automotive locksmith, he came and did everything on site. charged me $340..
another locksmith wanted $450, dealer was about the same
