I love how the RLX hybrid gets better mpgs when the traffic conditions start to worse. You almost don't mind stop lights, rush hour, and stop/go traffic. I have a 4 mile city street ride home with about +10 lights from Sam's club to my house when I gas up. I can see +35 mpg and had a high of 55 mpg in my RLX hybrid for the ride home. I'm lucky to see 17 mpg in my 11 MDX on the same gas trip.

Congrats!

Cannot believe it has been 7 years since I kept waiting and waiting for the 2014 Sport Hybrid RLX & finally gave up and bought the P-AWS. Every now & then I think about getting the MMC RLX but no more low profile tires for me after 2 left me stranded on the side of the road.

Enjoying my MDX Sporty Hybrid & wish Acura would continue using the system on more models than just the NSX.

And this why I’m working quickly to score a spare kit. It turns a 2-hour wait for a tow, into a 15-minute inconvenience.

I love these post-MMC tails. Acura went all out on the styling, within the limits that they had for the basic structure of the car. Me like!

i agree. they’re reminiscent of BmW’s 7 series but better. also love that the RLX is the only (& probably final) Acura with dual stacked headlights

all of the current design queue follows this style. the "~" taillight, check mark daytime running light, Man-ly grill, sculpted hoodline, and all that you can ask for in a car. Perfection Are you gonna put on splash guards and spoiler?

You should do splash guard and spoiler. It really add to the lines of this car. Get it before parts are gone forever.

Too funny. I have a similar "butt view" of the tail lights right after my wife got her '18 CPO 2 years ago - complete with temporary plates! She opted for the splash guards and body side molding, but nixed the spoiler since she didn't want to have holes drilled in her trunk lid. I think it looks fine without it.

Well since everyone is posting their butts, I'll throw mine up

I negotiated to have spoiler, splash guard, cargo net, door cup PPF, door edge PPF, and Rockledge shock sensor included and installed into my $43495 deal. Not a bad deal I think, though the dealer raped me on my trade-in. My RLX-SH too was previously owned but the guy only drove 4200 miles. MINTY when I picked her up. Some very minor scratches on rear passenger door that I buffed out otherwise she looks, drives and smells like a brand new car. After more than 6 months ownership, I've barely put on 1700 miles. Got nowhere to go with Covid restrictions. Hope to take her on long road-trips this summer up California coast.

Congratulations, what a beautiful color and interior combo. I have started leaning towards the Acura RLX SH and would definitely like to pick one up once I have an actual need for another car post the pandemic.

The bigger challenge up North is lower availability and the fact that they probably didnt sell any with those lovely interiors. Canadians seem to love black interiors too much

You guys with your butt shots and requests for splash guards and spoiler . I am really taken by those LED light pipes though.

All kidding aside, I’ll eventually get splash guards. The only thing I don’t like about them is that I worry they may cut into the paint. I like the trunk better without the spoiler for now. Could change my mind later, though.

Here’s a couple of the NSX and its younger, taller fellow Japanese-built cousin. RLX looks the size of a Mack truck next to the NSX LOL.

I can’t believe these are worth such stupid money nowadays. Glad I bought one when I did, I wouldn’t buy one now because of the crazy prices. Even repaired salvage cars are in the $40’s nowadays, and a car of my spec is in the $60s-$70s, much more than I paid for it.

Going to keep this for quite a while unless something happens to it.

About to hit the highway home to Cleveland.

Salesman owns an Accord coupe 6-6. I told him he’d better hold on to that!

Manager sold Acuras in the past, was reminded that his dealership sold perhaps one RLX every few months.

Best visual feature so far is something I didn’t pick up in the pics...that black front lip looks REALLY great with the red.

Good to be back!
Hey, I saw you did this on the Accord FB group. I'm the guy with the red 2.0T 6MT that was on savagegeese. That is a great addition to the NSX. Congrats. Btw, your Accord sold next day at CarMax. It flew off the lot. They've been offering me $30K for mine, I just can't get myself to sell it. Two years later they're giving me $3K more than I paid. INSANE.

Thanks for the head's up. I had been looking for a link to my Accord to post up...but it never appeared. Now I know why. Some else will enjoy that car. The only thing I did to it was to put on red Honda badges, fill it with gas, and take care of it. I'd stilll have it if not for CarMax's offer.

Enjoying the heck out of the RLX SH, and the stereo is far better than the Accord's.

Stingers look great, still don't have the sophistication of drive an Accord has. Plus, with all the electronic gadgetry in the Stinger, I found the space in the hatch disappointingly tight.

What Sophistication of driving does Accord have which is better than Stinger? Are you comparing it with the base engine of stinger? Spacewise yes Accord has more space.

this is what C&D had to say about the 2018 GT “Despite being quick at both going and stopping, the Stinger lacks the feel, finish, and immersive experience of the premium mid-size players. But it’s without question a better car inside than, say, a Dodge Charger Daytona, which starts at a nearly identical price yet lacks the Stinger’s performance.”

The new Accord has universally been rated as belonging to a higher class than your average midsize family sedan.

This talks about interior fit and Finish and I would agree the Accord definitely has better dashboard and overall interior layout and space and, though the steering and seats are way better in Stinger. The original post was about "sophistication of driving" which I am curious to know.

One of my favorite features of the MMC RLX is quickly becoming the 360 degree cameras. It makes parking in a parking spot evenly so much easier. And the front camera? This was not available in any trim of the RLX until 2016, so was lacking in my 2014.

And who else regularly uses the Acuralink app? The previous owner never activated either Acuralink or XM, so I have taken advantage of the 3-month trial of both. With Acuralink, the two free packages (Basic and Standard) don’t allow use of the app beyond scheduling service appointments or opening the owner’s manual. To see information about the car and to use the virtual remote, you have to pay for the Connect or Premium packages. This is the first time I’ve been able to successfully get Acuralink connected in any Acura I’ve had with the feature. I’ve used the send address to car feature a couple of times and it’s pretty cool. Anyone see utility in paying for this? Forgot to mention the “locate car” feature that’s part of the paid packages...like anyone wants to steal a RLX LOL...

Oh, fit and finish? My Accord was essentially perfect, and a joy to drive. The people bolting them together in Marysville are doing an awesome job. I salute them . The RLX, though? Better than perfect LOL. I’ll have to post up a comparison thread, just for spits and giggles, though there is no comparison between the two and it’s apples to cucumbers.

having gone directly from a 2012 RL to a 2020 RLX as good as the “coachwork” is on the RLX, the RL had superior coachwork inside and out. Most specifically the paint. The RL with its hand prepped finish was vastly superior to most other cars including the RLX. The RLX series has as much orange peel if not more than most other common cars. Clear coat hides a lot of sins and leaves a deep glossy finish on the RLX, but those RLs had paint finish quality on par with the Lexus LS and probably even better than Audi. The RL had velour floor covering, same as on my moms S550. The RLX has commodity car carpeting. The RL had padded upholstered fold out door map pockets. The RLX has molded fixed plastic. The RL had padded soft vinyl interior roof exit assist straps. The RLX has molded plastic handles. The side of the console in the RLX is hard molded plastic, in the RL it was stitched padded upholstered. Many days I spend 3 hours or more driving so I probably notice a lot of things other owners do not. But the RLX has superior leather upholstery, features, and levels of quietness still making it a very pleasurable car. Also very pleased Acura kept the RL alcantara like roof covering in the RLX. A real nice touch even Mercedes and Audi charge extra for.

Thanks for the comparison, @CadiGTi . I owned an RL as well, but don’t remember the fit and finish details as well as you did. I went through two Cadillac products after the RL and before my first RLX, and the RLX’s fit and finish was well above the Cadillac products.

Some of those items, now you mention them..I can’t unsee them.

I agreed with the orange peel assessment. Both my Acuras have it to some extent and some small paint defects. Looks like dust underneath clear coat, on both rear doors. Do I have to shell out for PMC edition for a decent paint job? Everyone is cutting corners these days. Acura more so than Lexus IMO.

I did 3 years of Acuralink for my RLX and MDX mostly for the sending navi info from my iphone. It is such a cumbersome process trying to use my RLX or MDX OEM navi for the simple address inputs compared to my 11 MDX. I switch between Waze or send to MDX navi with the Acurallink app for the MDX. I 100% send with Acuralink for the RLX. I like that my iphone calendar events show up on Acuralink app. I can send the address to my RLX/MDX within Acuralink calendar reminder to the OEM navi if I also put the event address in the icloud calendar second title field.

Acuralink should be free because it is so light on features.

OnStar is functionally better, for less money than Acuralink. I can remote start my wife's Buick on my iPhone, from inside the house on winter days. Can't beat that.

Every manufacturer has issues with orange peel nowadays, even Lexus (though less). I'm planning a 2-stage paint correction on the RLX in the near future, then ceramic coating. Should bring out that bright red paint a lot better.

I added splash guards at time of purchase of my CPO RLX. I did notice a few rock/debris strikes on the doors during my first cleaning that surprised me. I'm hoping adding splash guards will help with preventing that in the sandy southwest with 70-85 mph hwy speeds. Even with splash guards, the sides and rear of the RLX looks like it was dipped in dirt from the doors down starting from the front wheels on nasty slushy snowy days. The hood and glass area stays remarkably clean compared to the rest of the car on snow days.

This lines up with my own observations that I had when saw the 3rd Gen MDX and even the latest RDX. I asked the showroom person if I was on a base model as the seats felt like those in a CRV/Civic only slightly better but nowhere close to the overall fit and finish of my 2nd Gen MDX. Acura has tried to get more sporty in appearance and making seats harder while losing its essence unlike Lexus which still focuses on luxury. The funny part is they focused on making everything sporty other than where it mattered the most i.e. the engine LoL

One of the biggest irony I saw was that with 3G MDX with Pushbutton gear selector there is no space below the shifter for storage while the 2G MDX & TL both of them had storage below the traditional gear selector.

I recently test drove a 2016 RLX and was relived to know that Acura still knows how to make comfortable seats I had tough time getting a comfortable seating positing in my 2015 TLX and could never get one, had to even get some gel pads for comfort and I am not even a big guy (5'10, 180LBs)

Does 2020 RLX have same comfort seats as before pre facelift? The appearance look more like the latest TLX and MDX which got me thinking.

@technocrat Having had both a 2014 and now a 2020, I can verify the seats are similarly comfortable. My wife says “it’s like sitting on a sofa”. That’s a lot coming from her, as she also tolerated my stock NSX seats, which are a good deal firmer, for a cross-country trip.

The 2020 RLX seats are super comfy, but my problem with the front seats are lack of adjustable side bolsters. My frame is a little smaller than the average person so I tend to slide a bit side-to-side during hard cornering. My previous car ( '15 Lexus GS350) had excellent adjustable side bolsters that really help kept my body planted. This being an "executive car" I guess I understand why they skipped the adjustment of side bolsters, still wish Acura would included it. Everyone's body is not the same.

It had the all-season mats in it already. The ride is pretty much as I remember it, other than that the suspension is a bit more compliant than in my 2014.

Welcome back!

First off, congrats! You finally got the colour you wanted! And a terrific price at that too!

Second, regarding AcuraLink... My trial ended a few weeks ago. Thought long and hard and decided not to pay past the trial period. Reasons for me were:
  1. Send address to car didn't always work. Sure, I don't expect it to work all the time when the RLX is 4 floors underground in a downtown garage despite my craptastic T-Mobile service works in my spot. But it didn't always work when my car is parked at home either, which is first floor parking.
  2. The app takes forever to refresh its data. I have an automatic screen lock after 30 seconds, and if it doesn't get refreshed before lock, I have to unlock and refresh again. Very annoying.
  3. My favorite feature of all is the Trip History (minus the ratings they give). But even with successful data refreshes, sometimes my trip history is missing for 4-6 days worth. Then when you least expect it, they just pop in.
How did you manage to take a screenshot of your AcuraLink? Every time I tried, I get "Can't take screenshot due to security policy."

Finally, the camera. One feature I like is how on the RLX the camera can be turned on by the button at the end of the left stalk. Hit it by accident once, and can't stop using it every time I pull out of my downtown garage and dumb pedestrians on their cell phones ignoring the flashing lights and loud beeping and just walk into me despite inching out slowly. With a flick of the camera, boom: a wide angle front view that lets me see past the corners. Sadly, I now see more clearly these dumb pedestrians just ignore all signs and indicators. LOL

@StHalcyon , thanks for the AcuraLink opinion. I just timed refreshing info in the app. It took 42 seconds. This is similar to timing in the OnStar app for similar information on either my wife's Enclave, or my CTS-V wagon, so it's likely network + satellite buffering effect? As far as the phone screenshot, I have an iPhone 11 Pro Max, so I press the power button on the right side of the phone, and the "up" volume button simultaneously.

As for the car, I am satisfied with it. I know the overall look is plain-Jane to many, but it passes the "look back" test for me. The red is better than I thought it would be. It's wonderful to drive. It's definitely better than the 1G TLX by leaps and bounds, and better than the 2G TLX, too. I've already put nearly 1000 miles on the car...and that's despite my daily driving my CTS-V wagon last week.

Rained all day yesterday; but, it turned out to be a good time to wash up the RLX.

very nice. I washed mine...then pollen stuck all over it (I don’t have a garage). Was planning to wax it too.
