Considering buying a used 2014 RLX Tech P-AWS
Hi all,
I am new to this forum.
I am considering buying a used RLX from a Honda dealership.
The RLX is a lease return and has about 61,000km or 38,000miles (I'm in Canada).
One owner, no accidents and local to my area.
Previous owner did all maintenance at the local Acura dealer.
Tires are new.
I noticed the battery has been replaced twice on the vehicle.
Starter has been replaced once.
I read on this forum to stay away from VIN's where the last 4 digits are below 4000.
This particular car's last four VIN digits are actually below 1000
The vehicle is out of warranty as of Feb 2018.
Based off this info, do you feel this is a purchase I should consider or pass?
Also, price is very good.
Even still, I don't want to inherit any issues this car may potentially have.
Thanks in advance for any insight!

Burning Brakes
IMHO I woud pass on this. I don't think its worth dealing with the suspension issues......
It seems to have a parasitic draw (two battery replacements), most likely coming from the Bluetooth module. If it is, it is very expensive to replace....

Though I have been reading through this forum and it appears this model is prone to suspension issues that are noticable on uneven pavement.
The battery replacement x2 had me concerned and you have validated my concern.
I read about battery drain issues on owner reviews I was reading.
So is it typically the bluetooth module that is the source of the drain?
Thanks for the response!

Burning Brakes
Typically yes, I believe there is a lawsuit on that also......

There are many used RLX P-AWS units available for you to test drive in the Canadian marketplace. If this particular one has battery issues, you may want to consider another one. Keep in mind though that as the RLX is a slow mover, the cars tend to sit on lots for lengthy periods which is also a reason why batteries tend to die. That said, some have experienced battery drain issues as mentioned already.
Definitely test drive the P-AWS on rough roads to see if you can live with it. It will be very smooth on good road conditions but I did not like my P-AWS on any road imperfection - which is why I traded it in for a Sport Hybrid. Also make sure to check for smells coming from the ventilation system now that the weather is warming up. I had a foul smell coming from the vents of my P-AWS and they could never diagnose/fix it so I dumped it.
If you can swing it, test drive a Sport Hybrid and you'll never want to purchase the P-AWS. Problem solved!

IMHO, this is what it'd have come down to, just how good a price you're talking.
Major components should last a long time, the motor and transmission.
It doesn't use a lot of fuel for a car that big, either.
But it's quirky and glitchy, and no matter how good the price it'll probably depreciate much further, meaning you mightn't be able to get your money out of it no matter what.
If you really like it and you plan to run it into the ground, and the price is really good...maybe. :-)
I owned a 2014 P-AWS Advance before I got my KC2, and mine was just fine except for a long list of TSB which are likely already performed on your car.
It's gonna come down to the price and how good you made the deal.
If you have time, tell us whether you bought it or not.

Didn't end up with a RLX.
There's a limited used supply in the market I live in.
Ended up going with a TSX v6.
So far I am happy with it.
Thanks to all that chimed in on this thread!
