Changing Wiper Blades

I can't get the wiper blades to stop half way up no matter what I do they always go all the way down! Which is BS bc you can'’t change them out if they go all the way down! I read the manual & it was a 110% not helpful what so.ever!!!

Below is a copy of the answer I gave to the same question another forum member had a few weeks ago...the search feature is very helpful.

I looked in the manual and found the following for windshield wiper replacement. Sorry for the odd spacing, I cut and paste it from the manual pdf and that is how it came out. While I've never replaced the wipers myself, others have suggested placing a towel or two on the windshield when the wiper blades are off just in case they get bumped and slam down onto the windshield. The RLX Sport Hybrid windshield is very expensive and VERY hard to find, so it is probably a good idea to be extra cautious. Good Luck.

These instructions are for the 2014 RLX Sport Hybrid, I'm assuming that they are the same for the 2018. If not, double check the manual, it might be in there somewhere under windshield wipers.

1. Set the power mode to VEHICLE OFF (LOCK).

2. While holding the wiper switch in the MIST position, set the power mode to ON, then to VEHICLE OFF (LOCK).
u Both wiper arms are set to the

maintenance position as shown in the image.

3. Lift both wiper arms.

NOTICE

Avoid dropping the wiper arm; it may damage the windshield.

4. Press and hold the tab, then slide the blade out from the wiper arm.

5. Pull the end of the wiper blade to the direction of the arrow in the image until it unfastens from the holder’s end cap.

out

6. Pull the wiper blade to the opposite direction to slide it out from its holder.

7. Insert the flat side of the new wiper blade onto the bottom part of the holder. Insert the blade all the way.

8. Install the end of the wiper blade into the cap.

9. Slide the wiper blade onto the wiper arm until it locks.

10. Lower both wiper arms.

11. Set the power mode to ON and hold the
wiper switch in the MIST position until both wiper arms return to the standard position.

The description works.....did it myself once.

When I bought the inserts at the dealer, I had a tech chase me down and offer to install them right here for free. You can try that too.

I've always liked Bosch ICON wipers for easy on/off, aerodynamic design, and long life. They work pretty good for me living in the southwest with a lot of UV, dusty conditions, light rain, and fast moving storms with extremely heavy downpours. Don't get alot of snow and zero issues with wiper performance when driving in winter with frozen road muck on the entire front end. I usually get 3-4 years out of them before I need to change them out. I also clean and wax the windshield and that might also extend the life of the wipers. I just pop the RLX hood and it is an easy clip off the old and clip on the new procedure every +/- 4 years.

Driver side: Bosch ICON 26A, $26, Amazon
Passenger side: Bosch ICON 19A, $21, Amazon

I was unable to follow these instructions. I have no problem getting the wipers into Service position. I have no trouble getting the wiper blade holder off of the arm. But I can’t for the life of me figure out how to get the rubber inserts out of and into the holder.

I’ve been changing wipers on Hondas since the 80s so I’m an old hand at them. But I’ve never seen a Honda product with blades like this. And I can’t find any videos on YouTube that match them either. But as they are Mitsuba, I’m pretty confident they are OEM.

Both ends are locked tight And I cannot slide the rubber out. Any help?

UPDATE: I have figured out two things since my post above a couple of days ago:

1) The RLX wipers are not designed to have the rubber changed out--Acura intends you to buy new wipers at $25/pop every time.

2) There is a way to "break the rules" and get new rubber inserts into the blades. I'm refining the technique and plan to make a YT video showing how to do it. I'll post here in a week or two when I have something.

I am not sure I would agree with your point #1, because I have purchased inserts (rubber) at the dealer for '18 RLX SH, and have changed them on the OEM windshields wipers fairly easily.
